Rare 18th Century Black Forest Flute Clock with Black Bird Automata Circa 1770 Flötenuhr

Ойын-сауық

This is a very rare Black Forest flute clock or Flötenuhr. Clock has a large wood carved gilded shield. The shield has an opening above the dial exposing a large black bird or Amsel.
The clock will strike the hour then activate a musical train that plays 5 airs on 12 wood pipes. As the music plays the black bird moves left to right and his beak flutters in sequence with the tune.
The 5 airs are all based on the song o the bird, and have frequent "off notes" true to the song of the Amsel.
This clock was made circa 1770, and is one of the most magnificent musical Black Forest clocks that can be found today.
We had the clock totally restored in Germany in 2012, and it function flawlessly...even after over 245 years.

To think this clock predates the founding of the United States by 6 years and is STILL working is incredible testament to the designer who made this.

That is an awesome clock. Rather unique as I have not seen one like that. Probably out of my budget at this time.

Magnificent piece and still working beautifully. I prefer this type of clock to early English Lantern clocks. Thank you for sharing here.

Nowadays the sound of dome shaped bell and tune played by barrel organ mechanism are recorded and programmed in electronic circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker and installed in some quartz clocks so that they electronically imitates the same clock.

Yeah, but it's just not the same as the real deal. There's nothing quite like Hearing only the most authentic fine pieces of craftsmanship play a melodic tune after striking a bell in person.

@@Monster404ftp As you told nothing can beat the real bell nor barrel organ. Even some poor people who can't spend enough money to buy these types of clocks wants to enjoy the melody of barrel organ they buy such types of battery operated clocks that electronically imitates the same. Only the motion work (60 : 12 : 1 gearing that follows the same method as in some balance wheel clocks with centre second to drive the hands) of the battery operated clocks are the same as in mechanical clocks but miniatured in size and driven by small piezoelectric motor (small PCB board with resistors, transistors and capacitors that control the rapid flow of current to gradual flow and passes to tuning fork shaped quartz crystal oscillator that vibrates at a frequency of 32768 Hz and then passes the vibration to 15 flip flop circuits and then the vibration is converted into 1 Hz electric pulse and passed to solenoid coil that drives the rotor sprocket). The striking of the hours on bell and music of barrel organ are recorded and programmed in electronic circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker. Such a circuit board is connected to the Small PCB board. So poor people who wants to enjoy such music buys such clocks and enjoy.
