Raqqa: Inside the ruined 'capital' of the Islamic State group - BBC News

A BBC exclusive on the final stages of the battle for the Syrian city of Raqqa -- the last major stronghold of the self-styled Islamic State. The current offensive by Arab and Kurdish fighters - with American and British support - started in June. Then, I-S controlled most of Raqqa. But now only a few hundred militants hold the centre of the city. The BBC is the only broadcaster to get access. Our Middle East correspondent Quentin Sommerville and cameraman Darren Conway sent us their report - which does contain some distressing images.

Greetings BBC News! Thank you so much for the amazing journalism. I just had a quick question, why do your videos not include closed captioning? It only takes an hour or two to include the captioning on KZread. I am a professor and this would greatly benefit my students when they are researching for their papers. Also, when I show these videos in class, closed captioning will create an inclusive environment in the classroom so that I will not exclude a person with a hearing impairment. Thank you for taking the time to read this message!

@@mahmoudorfali693 Well Trump is trying to pull troops out of the middle east. One to please most Americans who have been tired of sending our own young men and women to the middle east for over 20 years now. The other is that there is a bigger threat looming around the corner. The CCP is looking to take over the world. We need as many men as possible for that fight. World always complains but it's too hard to defend everyone. As an american I'm tired of being the world police because the EU and UN are spineless.

Thee CUCK I understand what you mean but we have rights as 60 million people to get a own country. And no body invited USA to be a world police but i can tell you that USA create a group vs the state or vs civilians then they tell one group of the country to come and defend them like they did in Syria i think it was a plan from USA and Israel. So us came and control and defend only oil points which means they are there for selling weapons and for oil/money. U say that ur tired of (sending) young mens and womens haven’t u thinked about the young people who dies?? It hurts right? But Us doesn’t care about them if they’re really searching for peace and will help us u would kick Al Asad and all know that USA can do it in 2 hours but they won’t

@@mahmoudorfali693 Oh ik we could take out anyone with brute force. I wish trump did that more and installed real freedom and trade with these countries. We will only thrive as a collective. With the world police it's not just for our own interests. We have to protect europe because they have weak militaries and countries over there usually like to start havoc. Our job is to make sure no one tries to pop off. We go about things in alot of the wrong ways to become the power we are. So is china. While we use terriost insurgencies and coups to take over china goes over and buys out countries pretty much and puts them in extreme amounts of debt. Australia is finally starting to figure it out. At this point we need to step in and finish what we started and put and end to this because we have the power to. I also dont hate Jews but not of fan of what israel does either. There are many misnomers here, but perhaps the most laughable is that Russians are freedom fighters taking the fight to ISIL. When they're not bombing civilians with dumb bombs, they're blowing up the Syrian Democratic Forces who fight against Assad. Strikes against ISIL are few and far between in the Russian campaign.

The Kurdish have faced many attrocities for many years. They finally fight back and yet do it so honorably, treating their prisoners fairly and committing no war crimes. Being transparent. Holding democratic values. Humanitarian values. Doing this while having to litterally defend their land, families and civilians from ISIS. They are fighting for survival and doing it better and more honorably than I have seen before. Yet, you keyboard warrior hipsters still find a reason to hate the YPG.

Like somehow build speakers that can withstand being fired from some type of gun behind enemy lines that plays a recorded message from behind the enemy line. Heck this could even be good to build something like that that can disrupt enemy radios

Also in Kosovo before bombing of Yugoslavia it was called a genocide. After 2 000 US/UN and other observers went to see the war, they complained about seeing some people in serbian police uniforms stealing TVs and setting empty liquor store on fire. I am not even joking US diplomat went to serbian president to complain about TV stealing by few people in police uniforms and how it has to stop. Than after massacre in village Racak, it was declared a crime against humanity by US diplomat on TV and it was in newspapers in the west and a cause for bombing, while forensic investigators including those from Finland could not determine that those people killed were civilians, everything indicated that they were rebels shoot from distance during a battle. Their boddies were thrown on a pile after rebel groups retook the area, US diplomat William Walker than entered the area. People here in Serbia knew that it was a setup by USA even thought we know that our government is criminal in general, they did give orders to avoid harming civilians at any cost because of treat of bombing by NATO. It's amazing thought that US/NATO and 2 000 observers had problems finding war crimes in a warzone before the bombing. British report before bombing said how number of civilians killed was similar on both sides, 2 000 fighters and civilians killed on both sides in a one year of war before 1999, and this was a genocide?
