She was referred to as "The Queen of Rock n' Roll", by some. Others referred to her as "The Queen of the Blues". She also asked people to start calling her "Pearl". She liked that name so she took on that name (although, not legally). Jimi & Janis were good friends, often playing at the same venues. They talked alot & hung out backstage together. However, there are no recordings or evidence that they performed on stage together. Janis died in Oct 1970 of a heroin overdose, JUST 3 weeks after Jimi's death. She willed her fortune & future royalties to her mom, dad & 2 siblings, 25% each.

The best date for me was the night I proposed to my wife. She was talking and I pulled the ring out... and she was talking, and the waitress saw the ring and stopped what she was doing to see her reaction... about 3 minutes or so goes by when she looks up to ask what the waitress was doing when she saw that her gaze was on my hand....still and then she saw the ring... Sadly I don't remember the words, but even knowing all of my issues and health problems she said yes. That was a bit over 10 years ago, we will have been married 9 years this July. Sadly Janis had a massive problem with self esteem, she mentioned in a couple interviews that she didn't feel she could do a performance sober. She never went out without drugs, alcohol or both.

(Surprise: there are millions upon millions of views for her performance of "Nessun Dorma" at the 1998 Grammies) Then there is Tina Turner, the original Acid Queen, who NPR now calls the 'Queen of Rock 'n' Roll' At the level that these ladies - including Janis Joplin - performed, the titles don't mean nothing.

IF Janis would have had a good band she would have been a super star. She was so loyal and such a good hearted person she wouldn't dump the Big Brother's even though she was advised to repeatedly. Can you imagine her singing for Lynryrd Skynyrd or The Allman Brothers. Would have been Southern ecstasy. Her voice still just pulls everything out of you, you know exactly what she's feeling every second. She was a genius with a beautiful heart and soul. Others have probably mentioned that the lady going wow in the audience is Mama Case. She was a really good singer too who also died young.

Janis does a duet with Tom Jones when he had his television show in the 60’s. It’s awesome how they sound together.

"Bobby Mcgee" was written by Kris Kristofferson, and I think "Ball and Chain" was originally performed by Big Mama Thornton. 🤘

I heard Janis wanted to get it on with Jimi but he wasn't receptive to her advances. Her style of music was sometimes referred to as Psychedelic Blooze

Everyone plays the same Janis Joplin songs . She sings " Little Girl Blue" and it's my favorite!

I love Janis..always have. My friends and I listened to and partied to her "Cheap Thrills" 8 track tape probably 100 times back in '69:'70. I so wish someone would also react to her studio version of "Ball and "Chain" and discuss them both. It's so gorgeous...the entire album was fire! I enjoy your reactions and would be thrilled to see what you think. Also "Summertime" live and studio

I remember thinking the same thing when I first saw this performance. "All that coming from that little lady". and when she gets into it she grabs you by the throat and soul.
