A megitsune is a female fox. It is true that a lot of Western fans refer to themselves as kitsunes (male fox) and megitsunes, but officially the fan base is called The One.

One of you got it right, this is another BM fans favorite song and is already a classic one they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist when performing live such recently at the Europe Tour as well at FOX_ FEST Festival last month when they even opened up the festival with a exclusive remix and dance version called "Akago Kinzoku" dancing with a hand-fan. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal, MomoMetal not here yet) and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. The pig squeals are just a backing track and is credited to no one as well many more growlings and harsh vocals you can hear during early era. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" mic she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top favorite songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why sometimes she's doing sound check with this song before live shows. The origin of the "fox sign" is kinda long to explain but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Now you know why we said unofficially "kitsune" to male fans and "megitsune" to female fans but officially and collectively the fandom name is "The One", we even got a song with that title dedicated to all of us. Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a successful hit, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits. -NotACult- 👀 This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want. NIce job guys. Could tell you both did a bit of your Babymetal homework. Appreciated. This song remains to this day a fan favorite and is included in most of their concert playlists. You got my sub this time. I'll make a recommendation in a second but gentlemen, if you want to be taken seriously as reactors you need to at least get a splitter so you can both have a set of headphones. Babymetal for instance puts an incredible amount of work into their audio. Live and in the studio. When you're only listening to one channel you're missing way more than just half the music. All that dense, complex audio work is meant to be heard together. Both having headphones-if nothing else-shows respect to whomever you're listening to. Actually I take it back. I'm not going to make a recommendation. I just considered the song I was going to request and the thought of only half of it being heard...well it just wouldn't work (for instance there was amazing guitar work. One guitarist in the right channel and the other in the left). When you've only got one earbud in it just misses the mark entirely. Sorry.

Very cool! It's always great to watch Babymetal videos, but if you can, always try to attend live performances. In the clips, an essential component of the band is missing: the fans. The fan base and the band become "one" at shows. Enjoy Babymetal !!! 🤘🦊🤘

These young ladies are the best thing to happen to music for a very long time, If I was younger I would have loved to see these live, they entertain, they sound amazing and their songs always have a positive message, they have got better and better with age. Yui was the one who left due to health reasons and I do miss her so I hope she is well and happy.

Great reaction. 🤘 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, I have no idea on the difference) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains the fox masks in the video🦊) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su spoke a few words and pulled the tanto (short blade) out of her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
