The incorporation of traditional instruments like Shamisen (guitar) and Taiko and Tsuzumi drums gives this song a very unique feel, and goes very well with the ghostly singing of "Sakura Sakura" (one of Japan's oldest folk songs) during the breakdown.

Su has a very powerful voice, enough to withstand the heavy music around her. It was this special trait that attracted their producer, Kobametal to her. “SHEis the one who will front my jpop metal fusion band”, he figured, being a metal head himself. The rest, as they say is history

I guess Babymetal is the metal band who has the largest female fanbase. In Red Fox Festival, an all female concert, Babymetal hyped them all up!

This is old but very powerful song to play live. Get ready to jump and chanting “sore!” in babymetal concert.

Megitsune has historically been their opener! Saw them in KC in 2019 in a smaller venue and it stood as the most hype metal concert I’ve been to! Can’t wait til September!

That guitar is a Shamisen, but to me it sounds like the sound of a Koto, Japan's national instrument.

I was on Sabaton live with Babymetal as a suport but for me they were main show and they delivered as hell! God damn one of the best shows I've attended! Insane energy and Megitsune live was like an atomic bomb for me!

the lead singer was picked because of her voice, the other 2 because they looked alike, could dance and sing well enough on background (Aoi can sing as well as Su though). They were all from a farm system of raising talent and all from different groups before put together. It wasn't like a rock band that formed in a garage

Great reaction, thanks! "Megitsune" was released on June 2013 so Suzuka was 15 while Yui and Moa were both 13 (almost 14) at the time. It's one of the most loved BABYMETAL songs and their most played live one (277 times and there are a lot of chances that they will play it on every concert and you will experience it live). The three strings instrument is called shamisen which means... 3 strings 😁 The breakdown is probably the most expected part on every concert. I guess you have already seen the live performance, but next time, keep an eye on Moa (and Momoko). 🤣 It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya aka Yuyoyuppe (the song's arranger) until Kobametal (Kei Kobayashi, their producer and the guy who came out with the whole idea) was 100% happy with the final result. And this is the reason why "Megitsune" is a masterpiece. The word "Megitsune" = "me"+"kitsune" which means female+fox so a vixen. Hence the "kitsune" masks everywhere. That breakdown hits hard and besides the pig squeals, the melody is from a Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulls out the "tanto" (short blade) she says: "Otome wa... nametara ikan zeyo" ("Maidens... shouldn't be underestimated") About the music video locations: - The stage where they are performing is called Nohgakudo at Asagaya Shinmei-gu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage where music and dances are performed during festivals. - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. Having recently been to one of their live shows, Megitsune is near the top when it comes to crowd hype and energy. In my concert the only other song that came close was BxMxC

Thanks for the reaction. This is the song that really sucked me into Babymetal. I still love this one. They play this almost every show even now. I like the 2021 live Budokan version too, but it is only Moa doing backup vocals. It will be even better with Momometal singing too now. Edit: Oh, I just heard you say you are going to the show with JustDunk, I have been watching his reaction for a couple weeks now too. That's awesome, I hope you two have a blast. I am going to Seattle and both LA shows in October.

which LA night are you going to see? first night sold out. i'm going to the 2nd night which is the end of the north american tour. can't wait! spent a pretty penny to get rail seats overlooking the floor (i'm too old to mosh lol). very appropriate they're playing at the you tube theater since this is where i first heard of them.

i only discovered babymetal 3 months ago,and i already have at least a dozen favorites. reading about their history and watching early videos of them (yui and moa's audition video singing a karen girl's song is precious) has only fueled my new obsession. i'll be at their last show of the north american tour (appropriately at the you tube theater) in los angeles. first night sold out,and i'm expecting the same will be for night two. if this ends up being my one and only chance to see them live i'll die a happy man.

Love this band. Su-Metal (lead singer) was the inspiration to begin the band; the music director Koba-Metal saw her performance and had an inspiration to have her front a heavy metal band, metal was also a lifelong interest of his. She had never heard heavy metal before, so he brought her and Moa-Metal and Yui-Metal to a Metallica concert. They took to it very quickly, the possibilities for music and performance with this style of music. It took off, again with Su-Metal as the foundational piece to the band; her precision, power, and charisma are astounding and just grow and improve over time.

I saw them in Louisville and St. Louis second best show I have seen live! It was awesome!

Seeing them live on December 3rd this year in the Netherlands. I've already seen them live 3 times in the past and they never fail to put on a great show.

Go see them, you won't regret it, they are amazing live I saw them live in 2019 at the House of Blues in Boston city and at the Forum in Inglewood _(near L.A.)_ I'm from Montreal, Canada......They are the only band I'm willing to travel to see them live

Great reaction. 'Megitsune' is a difficult song to sing - so Su-metal uses it for sound checks and to check how she is sounding before concerts. It often tops fan polls for favourite song and they have played it live more often than any other song and it is almost guaranteed to be on the set list when you see them. It is arguably the song that showcases best what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The build up before they started and the breakdown in the middle of the song (the pig squeal screams are more obvious in the studio recording) uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade from her mic she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.

Don't get what you're talking about. Amuse BABYMETAL management block MUSIC VIDEOS AND LIVE THEY UPLOADED BUT MOSTLY THE MUSIC VIDEOS. They rarely block live videos from other channel uploads which there us soo many. Just stay away from BABYMETALs own KZread PAGE AND THEIR UPLOADS. But again seriously have never heard anyone not being hit doing their MVs except a very few megitsune. Gimme chocolate. And a coiple others.

Megitsune is without a doubt their most played song and often tops fan polls. Even to this day they play it live and it is as good as it ever was (plus, the girls often put in a little fun in the performance, so keep a close eye on them during the performance xd).
