Aight guys had to share this thought - inspired from the comments by Shawn Martin: So this video has three layers to it - Nate the son rapping to his dad (how we start the song) about letting him down - The father replying back to his son (the first chorus) echoing these thoughts but from his side of things - Then the end, when we reveal Nate to now be the old man talking to his younger self: he has now become his father and repeated the mistakes of the past, as hard as he tried not to, so the cycle continues...👀💯 Comment below any more theories on this vid!! 🔥🔥

Or: - He watches his own struggles and stands by, not changing anything. He let himself down by not making changes he knew were needed. (To quote one of his lyrics: “Yeah, I know that I’m the only person that can change me, maybe that’s why I’m not changing.” or another: “That’s just me. No! That’s just me avoiding the change.”)

The video and lyrics don't necessarily go together. The video is Nate watching himself, drowning in his issues and not being able to help himself. Letting himself down.

Don’t know if this makes sense - but my eyes are tuned in for dealing with Nate. I’m just expecting symbolism at this point and so many hidden meanings with his videos. My thoughts are, he's dying to himself. Sacrificing himself for others so he won't repeat actions of his parents. They let him down, everyone who has heard his songs knows that for sure. The death of his mom is obviously raw emotion and true. He definitely has patched things up with his dad and his dad is apart of his life. There has been a lot of healing in his family since these songs came out. Most of these predate the releases. He wrote "How could you leave us" at 18. He doesn't feel that way anymore. It's like once he finally overcomes something, he has something else to talk about. My 2 cents.

after 3 years of listening to this song, I finally get from the stance of his "father" singing the chorus, and Nate drowning in the lake. Its more so about the idea that his father didn't help him with the loss of his mother. The voices represent how he may believe its his fault his mother died. On top of that his father could see it as he's allowing Nate to drown himself in all of the sadness that plagued his childhood. The moment I realized I instantly started crying because its such a deep perspective about the regret a father might have for not helping his son through hardship.

I also like some other reactors on youtube and they're perfectly fine, when the song doesn't require picking out the intricacies of NF's songs, as they often miss them. But you smashed this as usual. Really like your take on this song and I think you hit the nail on the head with the meanings. Nothing gets by you. Really great reaction again, Knox!

This song is so similar to my relationship to my parents, emotionally and mentally that disconnect is SO REAL. I have tried so many times to connect with them and I just CAN’T anymore. It really hurts cause when I would try to talk about the issues either I got gaslit or they ignored the issues wanting pretend that everything is just fine. Gawd it’s the worst during the holidays too.

If I’m right, he has a feature for the hook and chorus, not his own voice. Small note, and I love your reactions. It’s so satisfying to see reactors break down his lines and fully understand all of his message that true fans will understand and resonate with!

I’m trying to find it somewhere, but I must’ve had my songs mixed up! All I’m seeing is that it is in fact just a high-pitched voice altering effect for his voice. This one was produced by the classic Tommee Profitt along with David Garcia though!

The dad is the son is the son is the dad. You get caught thinking it's about 1 person (the son) as the Let Down, then (the dad) is singing as the Let Down, then you see the REAL tat and hear the woman call (the dad) "NATHAN". If we don't change, we become the very thing we hated about our parents. Nate knows he's doomed to be just like his dad, the son becomes the father who hurts the son. Very deep introspection. Thanks for the review, you KNOX'd it out the box again.

Lyrics Feels like we're on the edge right now I wish that I could say I'm proud I'm sorry that I let you down I let you down All these voices in my head get loud I wish that I could shut them out I'm sorry that I let you down Let you down Yeah, I guess I'm a disappointment Doing everything I can I don't wanna make you disappointed It's annoying I just wanna make you feel like everything I ever did Was never tryna make an issue for you But I guess the more you thought about everything You were never even wrong in the first place, right? Yeah, I'ma just ignore you, walking towards you With my head down, lookin' at the ground, I'm embarrassed for you Paranoia, what did I do wrong this time? That's parents for you Very loyal? Shoulda had my back but you put a knife in it My hands are full, what else should I carry for you? I cared for you, but Feels like we're on the edge right now I wish that I could say I'm proud I'm sorry that I let you down Let you down All these voices in my head get loud I wish that I could shut them out I'm sorry that I let you down Let you down Yeah, you don't wanna make this work You just wanna make this worse Want me to listen to you But you don't ever hear my words You don't wanna know my hurt, yet Let me guess You want an apology, probably How can we keep going at a rate like this? We can't, so I guess I'ma have to leave Please don't come after me I just wanna be alone right now, I don't really wanna think at all Go ahead, just drink it off Both know you're gonna call tomorrow like nothing's wrong Ain't that what you always do? I feel like every time I talk to you You're in an awful mood What else can I offer you? There's nothing left right now, I gave it all to you Feels like we're on the edge right now I wish that I could say I'm proud I'm sorry that I let you down Let you down All these voices in my head get loud I wish that I could shut them out I'm sorry that I let you down Let you down Yeah, don't talk down to me That's not gonna work now Packed all my clothes and I moved out I don't even wanna go to your house Everytime I sit on that couch I feel like you lecture me Eventually, I bet that we could have made this work And probably woulda figured things out But I guess I'm a letdown But it's cool, I checked out Oh, you wanna be friends now? Okay, let's put my fake face on and pretend now Sit around and talk about the good times That didn't even happen I mean, why are you laughing? Must have missed that joke let me see if I can find a reaction No, but at least you're happy Feels like we're on the edge right now I wish that I could say I'm proud I'm sorry that I let you down Oh, I let you down All these voices in my head get loud And I wish that I could shut them out I'm sorry that I let you down Oh, let you down Yeah, I'm sorry I'm so sorry now Yeah, I'm sorry That I let you down
