    another thing you missed about the "grow my wheat for me after you're beaten" bar is that shaka zulu banned the growing of wheat after his mother's death and kinda went crazy cause of it, so by Caesar making him grow wheat for the romans for the rest of his life was even crueler than at first glance

    I believe there's another meaning behind that bar. If I'm not mistaken, Caesar would enslave POWs after every conquest and after a few years of mandatory military service, they earn the rights to become full fledged roman citizens

  • @sheller153

    @sheller153

    Additionally, after Cesar conquered a place they would be considered Roman after a decade of sending all crops not required to feed their people to Rome as reparations for the battle. So after Shaka is beaten and incorporated into Rome he would literally be growing Cesar’s wheat.

  • @salvasaren329

    @salvasaren329

    I think you can even assume another meaning: Romans would enslave their opponents and put their powers to best use, which could mean they could turn you into a gladiator or some sort of mercenary. However, after that battleJulius seems to think that Shaka Zulu would make a nice farmer instead. XD

    There's kind of a double in the "decimation" line too. Decimation was a Roman military disciplinary tactic. It was a way that the Legion would, notably in extreme circumstances, maintain morale and good order. They'd basically kill 1 in 10 soldiers at random (deci-mate). Maybe this is reaching, but I find it interesting that he then references later NOT slaughtering all of them, but instead keeping them alive. While in our modern vernacular we mean decimation to be synonymous with complete annihilation, in the Roman sense of the word, "decimation" would leave 90% of the soldiers alive.

    It was Crassus in the first triumvirate; not Cassius and yes he died fighting The Parthians; I think they poured molten silver down his throat after capturing him. Edit: Actually Shaka's rebuttal to Caesar about the biography is rather weak, since he himself was assassinated by his two half-brothers. Plus, Caesar's death was not the end of the play, but rather I believe it was after Mark Antony and Augustus defeated Cassius and Brutus and thereby established the 2nd triumvirate.

    The Iwisa is surprisingly complex weapon, considering its technically a wooden club. So, one of Shaka Zulu's main changes to warfare was that he got rid of his army's reliance on long spears, in favor of the Iklwa, a shorter spear made with close combat in mind (i believe it was still long enough for throwing, but thay typically wasnt its main use.) In addition, the Iwisa came into play. Its basically a 2ish foot long wooden haft, topped with thick knob, either carved that way to begin with, or added on. Its primary use was more of a swagger stick or otherwise symbol of authority. But it absolutely could, and sometimes did, function as a ranged throwing weapon (this thing could get some surprising force and distsnce), but it also served as a crushing sidearm in close range, able to crack skulls and ribs fairly easily. It could also be easily adapted to daily life as a sort of walkin stick, thus having use as a personal weapon outside of warfare. So while the short spear was the iconic weapon introduced by Shaka, the Iwisa would likely be a very familiar part of a warrior/leaders life. Hell, it saw more recent use in South Africa during Apartheid era protests (both used by protesters and the police), so there might be something there, too. So hes basically brandishing not just a weapon and making idle threats, but moreso brandishing a symbol of his authority and strength as a leader. And, to some extent, by framing it as introducing his Iwisa to Caesar, rather than just speaking plainly, its showing a further level of disrespect, by subtly claiming Caesar should be addressing the symbol, not the man directly.

    Thank you for breaking down each bar! I'm very grateful to you for that, Knox. I think you and Skeem are the only gentlemen who are actually catching all the bars and explain them. 🤔 You're a fun reactor, so I'll keep 'stalking' your channel. Keep up the fun! 😆👍🏻 Much love from Spain!

    Octavian (Augustus) was the grand nephew of Caesar, in his will he was named his heir. The Roman Senate named him dictator for life among many other titles. Crassus was the third member of the triumvirate he was killed in Parthia. Enjoy your break downs, especially as a fellow history nerd.

    There's a KZreadr called Vlogging through History both you and him do Epic Rap Battles of History reactions amongst other things. He's a historian, and you being a rapper (plus an amateur historian yourself) would lead to a pretty cool colab for one of these videos. Especially since ERB is history and rap which you two together would cover a lot of ground with. You guys should colab
