You missed one aspect of the Shawshank/Green Mile bar: He says "I can even take a break from my routine style". Up to this point, he's stressed every third syllable in his bars: "I can EVen take a BREAK from my ROUtine style", but then he flips to stressing every fourth: "CRANK out a shawSHANK, or a green MILE". He LITERALLY takes a break from his routine (rap) style, in that bar.

by far. Also Misery is one of the easiest King's read. It has less than 500 pages and barely any slow moment (the tension starts at the end of the first page). It's also one of his works with fewer characters, and I think King tends to get a bit repetitive with huge cast, so for me, Misery is the first book I recommend to anyone, and is the one that most benefits of his strenghts as a writer.

I'm so glad you know who Watsky is! He's actually been in a couple of ERB videos! He was in Dr. Seuss vs Shakespeare (he was Shakespeare), and Doc Brown vs Doctor Who (he played the 4th Doctor). Also, I think the next one you should check out is Wolverine vs Freddy Kreuger. Freddy is played by a really cool rapper/singer by the name of Wax! Wax was also in another ERB: Alfred Hitchcock vs Stephen Spielberg. He played Quentin Tarantino. My favorite ERB is definitely Artists vs TMNT. I recommend that one! Fun fact, Watsky wrote all his lines for this battle!

Poe was struggling with severe depression when he lost his wife. That is why he became the best poet of all times. Stephen king struggled alot aswell, he used to tell his stories to his children every night, before he wrote them. Castle rock is also a tv series that i just loved. I am in deep awe with both . I can not stress that enough. Poe is a legend when it comes to raw, emotional poetism. Stephen is a legend when it comes to stories. I love both og them. 👌🏼❤️ When i need inspiration for my art work or my writing, these two are my inspirations. ( Beside myself offcourse)

Fun Fact: Stephen King commented on this battle admitting that Poe won xD Edit: I'm sorry, poor wording. I saw a random facebook news post about his tweet. Only reason I remember that is because it was the first time I'd seen them mentioned in the media. Edit 2: I feel that Poe won. Mostly because it felt to me that King was just bragging. In terms of entertainment however King definitely outshone Poe, but that's probably just because I over appreciate his references xD

It's a pleasure to listen to someone that is able to appreciate the references, and has a deeper understandment of them. I always took the "beats off on a page" as Poe basically calling King a sellout! That he had "gone Hollywood" and was just cranking out mindless book after book with little to no thought, artistic expression or effort. That he just "beats off on a page" and sells it as a book to his publisher for a paycheck over & over. (surviving on name recognition only) Whereas HE (Poe) "suffered" for his "art". (literally) But that was just my take.

Something that you may not know is that King is a free writer. This means that he often goes into a story with a rough idea and let's the story grow on it's own while many others have plans of how things go before hand. This in general can allow for faster publishing, which is what the beats off on a page line comes down to. Also, fun fact about king's works, he tends to get bored with most of the books and start second guessing the way that they go. It's one of the reasons he has so many, hes on to the next book before he finishes the last. His writing style makes series more difficult which makes his accomplishments with the Dark Tower, his piece-de-resistance, far more impressive.

King started out writing as himself, his big first hit was Carrie - he invented Richard Bachmann (named after Bachmann Turner Overdrive IIRC) to write non-horror. Rage is a drama about a school shooting, Running Man is dystopian sci-fi (less over the top than the movie, but also much darker), The Long Walk is another dystopian sci-fi (set in the same future, IIRC), and so on.
