Wikipedia-Lead singer Chris Martin wrote "The Scientist" after listening to George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Martin revealed that while working on the band's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, he knew that the album was missing something. One night, during a stay in Liverpool, Martin found an old piano that was out of tune. He wanted to work on Harrison's song, "Isn't It a Pity", but he could not manage to do so. When the song came to Martin, he asked that the recorder be turned on. He concluded by saying that he came across this chord sequence and noted that the chord was "lovely". Martin recorded the vocals and piano takes in a studio in Liverpool. When asked about the development of the song, during a track-by-track reveal, Martin said: "That's just about girls. It's weird that whatever else is on your mind, whether it's the downfall of global economics or terrible environmental troubles, the thing that always gets you most is when you fancy someone." The liner notes from A Rush of Blood to the Head, on the other hand, state that "The Scientist is Dan", a reference to Dan Keeling, the A&R man who signed the band to Parlophone

You should react to “Isn’t It A Pity”

He actually learnt the sounds of the words played backwards….. so when it was played in reverse it looks like he was singing the words…. Very clever and a lot of work. The end of the video was filmed in Bourne woods, south of London, it was also used to film parts of Gladiator and The Whitcher. I used to live near there and walk my dog there

Had a man work out what it would sound like phonetically played backwards and cold play lead singer learnt it sung it with backwards music so it looked like when reversed he was saying the actual lyrics. Clever stuff.

The band is absolutely amazing live. I've been to their concert last year in Copenhagen... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The songs, the visuals, the scene show., flying balls, fireworks, light show bracelets....just WOW!!

Yes… this Album was phenomenal. Nothing else they have done is on a par with this.

Coldplay have been maybe the biggest band on the planet for the last 20 years sold over 100 million albums and have sold out stadium tours around the world. It still amazes me that you have not heard of Coldplay you must have lived in a bubble not to be aware of Coldplay.

Further to other comments, I read a fact some years ago when track first came out. It took Chris Martin 3 months to learn to sing lyrics in reverse, so that it would be seamless when video was played!! That's like outhere

This is my favourite ColdPlay song. But there are sooooooo many amazing ones.

Coldplay get so much shade but I think he has a lovely voice and he's a really talented musician. There's a video, possibly for SiriusFM or something, where he asks them if they want him to do their choice of song on the piano or guitar. It's super.

Yeah, I've never understood why they get so much crap from the public...they're excellent musicians/songwriters, Chris has a great voice & he performs really well live too. Got to see them in the early or mid-2000's? Missed them on their recent big arena tour - they didn't come to my country. Would have loved to have seen it!

@@isuckatguitar6252 Think they suffered from a similar thing as James Blunt. Oversaturation of their music at one point plus 'middle class wyte dude' meant they were an easy target. They could be the butt of any joke. It's a real shame as their music was only everywhere because it's so easy to listen to, and I don't think Chris has ever really received the acknowledgement he deserves as an artist because they were so derided.

Well, Coldplay has a huge range of styles in the passage of time, from the beginning to now, and I like a lot of their songs. I personally don't really like the music in the last album, but I still respect them for what they're doing. They've given us plenty of banger songs, so I'm happy that they're there.

Biggest and the best band ever

BP. Your reaction at the end was like mine when I first saw this video. I must have been 14 at the time. Best advert for seatbelts I’ve seen.

Coldplay puts me in a different place psychologically, only artist(s) that do the same is Dido. It's an ethereal sound or something. I used to travel a ton for stupid money and business and when I was missing my lady and my boys I'd throw Coldplay, Dido and a couple others on and it would neutralize the anxiety and such.

Seen this multiple times but this is the first time I noticed after he gets up off the mattress he holds the inside of his elbow, then we see "before" that when hes outside the laundromat looking like hes trying to score something. Might be a stretch but also when he's diving the car he rubs the inside of his other elbow and looks directly at it acknowledging it. The sutbleties.

Yes Chris Martin writes the lyrics. Coldplay first album Parachute is amazing. Every song is great and meaningful: beautiful lyrics throughout the album

I've probably mentioned it on previous videos... Whenever the topic of 'beautiful music videos' comes up, I have to recommend 'Gravity' by Sara Bareilles. It's got one of the most significant, and yet simple, music video concepts I have ever seen... and it matches the song to an absolute T.

We are all scientists in that we always have to take a life experience (whether good or bad) and pick it apart, try to understand it, ask what made it happen the way that it did, and then ask what we have to do to make it happen again/never happen again.

So if you are digging Coldplay they have quite a big catalog over 8 albums in 24 years, they started released their first album in 2000 in which this song is from and I would say definitely check out from this album "Clock", "God Put a Smile On You Face", "Politik" then onto later albums I think you will love the official videos from their KZread channel called "Adventure of a Lifetime" and "A sky full of Stars" as oppose to doing a live just as they are very unique and creative and you may be inspired by them for your own videos, only do the lives if the official videos get blocked as their lives are quite amazing too and finally do "Paradise the live to me is better than video but choice is urs. Anyway thanks for reaction 👍🇨🇦

Chris Martin can be boring but the the man is an absolute genius! He writes all his music, he plays the guitar, piano amongst others and writes so much for a multitude of artists. The man is a musical savant!
