Rap Fan Reacts to Sabaton - The Last Stand

Музыка

Today on Rap Fan Reacts to Sabaton - The Last Stand. I get a different vibe from Sabaton in this one. I feel like this is a song meant to bring pride to people. I mention in the video how it feels like telling a folk tail around a campfire to the younger generation and I feel Like thats what this song was meant for. I loved it and I want to thank everyone that suggested it! I hope you enjoyed and let me know what you want to see next!

The song is about how the papal swiss guard came about. The swiss guard is still active today in protecting the pope. You have to be Swiss, male, catholic & completed military service (which is mandatory in Switzerland, however you can get easily it of it, but then you have to pay more taxes or do some civil service). While the swiss guard is mostly known for their ceremonial uniform (yellow & blue with metal helmet & hellebard), they are the actual guard for the pope & most are in suits with guns & other weapons on them like normal body/securityguards.

It is about the Swiss guard but it’s about the 1527 sacking of Rome when 189 members of the Swiss guard protected the pope and got him to castel saint angelo (don’t know if that’s how you spell it) and they sacrificed themselves to protect him.

Historian speaking here: the Sacco Di Roma, the Sacking of Rome, happened on the 6th of May 1527. It's maybe one of the most important events for Christianity in the early modern times, since the Holy See lost most of its power and reformers like Martin Luther were not as opposed as they've been before and Henry VIII. could divorce his wife, since the Pope didn't have any leverage against him after 1527. So mostly German Landsknechts and partly Spanish and Italian soldiers stormed the city of Rome. Their leader, Georg of Frundsberg, had tried to stop them from crossing the Alps a few months before but suffered from a stroke while trying to calm down his troops. After this about 20.000 men were without leadership and unleashed their anger against the Pope (since he was seen as the main reason for all the misery they've suffered from). The Spanish King, later Kaiser, wasn't able to pay his troops, since he had to deal with the French King Francis I. before and that did cost a lot of money. So 20.000 men storm the Holy City, plunder and rape most of the roman population, kill the Swiss Guard entirely and kept the Pope hostage, until he paid them, ransom for rich Romans and had to crown Charles V. as Kaiser afterwards. Until today, the 6th of May is the inauguration day for new members of the Swiss Guard.

189 who gave their lives initially and another 42 against 20,000. One of the absolute Greatest Land Stands before the Battle of Saragarhi on the 12th of September in 1897. As Indy from Sabaton History once stated, in regards to the Warsaw Uprising though applicable here: "There are times when the struggle is so monumental, You know you will not win. You know you will not survive and you know you will not even make great change and yet, you still make that Fight."

So with 42 escorting the pope to Castel St. Angelo, the other 147 held back the pillagers and buying time for the pope's escape. ...which only makes this even more epic. I wish sabaton were to be invited to perform this song in St Peter's Basilica in 2027 - ideally supplemented by the organ there. Just imagine the sound of that....

The story of the 189 brave soldiers in the Swiss guard during the sacking of Rome in 1527. Since Charles V, ruler of the holy roman empire couldn’t pay his troops they mutinied and forced their commander to lead them towards Rome where plunder was plentiful. When the invading force entered the vatican pope Clement VII escaped to Castel Sant’Angelo via passetto di Borgo. The few remaining guardsmen gave their lives on the steps to St. Peters Basilica.

Short version. In 1527, the army of holy roman emperor and king of Spain, Charles V, fighting in Italy and allied to the pope, revolted for lack of pay and attacked Rome to sack it and make money. The improvised defense went very well for a while, untill the commander got killed an it collapsed suddenly. Then, as thousands of maddend mercenaries were rampaging through the city, the pope escaped to safety in the castle of Sant Angello, by a covered street, and the 189 swiss guards with a few other defenders made a last stand in front of St. Peter's. Fought literally to the last man. The mercenaries were majority german protestants and the wars of religion were just getting started. If they had succeded in capturing the head of the catholic church, anything could have happened.

Indeed they're talking about a crusade. More concretely they're talking about the Sack of Rome. The belligerents were the Papal States vs The Spanish Empire, the Holy Roman Empire and the country of Guastalla

Hope you get better soon! Interesting conclusion to the sound of it, that "campfire story", never thought of it that way but I can certainly see and hear what you mean. Your love for the guitar parts is something another hip hop fan also really digs. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qI5q2dRyYKm0pqw.html For the Sabaton history episode on it. You should really give the live versions of those songs a listen, there you have the crowd and a metric fuckton more energy. Also glad you found one of their more uplifting songs after the depressing ones you've gone through lately.

Lol It isn't the crusades but that's such a common misconception it's become a meme. It's about 189 making a final stand to buy the pope a few extra minutes to get to safety during the saking of Rome in 1527. (80% of the population was killed after this battle)

You say this song feels happy, that it doesnt have the same sad/tragic undertone as some of their other work that you heard. Well yes its from the album The Last Stand, its supposed to be glorious and magnificent and inspiring. And no need to ask if there is a history video on it. There is. For every. Single. One. Multiple parts expanding on the story even. Except currently the Chrismas Truce hasnt been made yet but its dropping at the latest when they release the full new album and make the episodes on the songs from it. Although i have a suspicion they might release the History video on the actual christmas day

Sabaton just grow on you, the more you listen the more you like. Their song The end of the War to End all wars is quite epic, almost Nightwish like kzread.info/dash/bejne/e2l-qpObqZe3ftI.html I'm still recommending that you check out Ad Infinitum, probably the Afterlife video is a better one to start with...the entire second album Legacy is themed around the various iterations of the Dracula story (Vlad the Impaler, Bram Stoker etc.), and with song titles like Animals, Afterlife and unstoppable, you can see the connection.
