Dimebag Darrell, (guitarist) asked Eddie Van Halen to make him a guitar in Eddie's way, with the stripes. Eddie declined. At Dimebag's funeral, Eddie put his actual guitar from the Van Halen 2 album cover in Dimebag's casket to be buried with him. The respect every guitarist had for him was tremendous. RIP Dimebag, Vinnie, and Eddie.

I didn't know that! That's epic on a whole other level. Gotta love the respect shown. I actually wanted to recommend Van Halen "Hot For Teacher" since the drums and guitar are insane on that song, as well. It hits hard and it runs fast. Great energy in a song.

RIP Dimebag, he made that guitar scream. I’m so glad I got to see Pantera live. This is the short version of the song, I think I’ve always preferred the longer version. The longer one starts slow and builds, a build up that is almost nails-on-the-chalkboard nerve wracking. You should definitely check it out. Love the reaction, you should *always* dance. Music is supposed to make you move and honestly I can’t say mine wasn’t the same when I saw them live. Mosh pits are a thing for a reason. Always good to see someone who just appreciates music for music’s sake. And you words about it being a state of mind? Chef’s kiss 💯. ❤️ (check out their cover of Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan.) ps: you’re reaction to Phil and Dimebag’s pair up at the end? Awesome. Didn’t think eyes could get that wide and not fall out.)

Love Pantera. This song is about two friends the singer, Phil, had when he was a kid. They committed suicide. He wanted to write a song about that experience, but he felt like it would be disrespectful to write about them, and it wouldn't be a song people would want to listen to, so he wrote a story from the perspective of a guy who lost the girl he built his whole life around. It's more accessible and relatable that way. Its about learning how to live after suffering such a big loss. Phil's been through some shit in his life and he's really good at writing emotional stuff because it comes from experience. His vocals are insane, too. Dimebag is a guitar god. Rex on bass and Vinnie Paul on the drums are holding it down. They're all on another level, and together, they were something else. They pushed each other to be the best they could be, and, as it turns out, when they do their best they kick everyone's ass. :) Listen to A New Level, Yesterday Don't Mean Shit, I'm Broken and Revolution Is My Name.

I’m older than your dad, so I’m from a time you had the radio, or music you bought. You picked music in the “record” store by album art and song titles. It further impressed him that you could hear that the singer was matching the guitar. This is the only Pantera song I have ever heard (though I have heard it several times while watching reactions to the video. The singer’s vocal range is amazing and the guitar player is second to none). My husband absolutely loves this band. It was rather beautiful just seeing the look on his face watching all your reactions. He looked proud of you.

Crucified for no sins An image beneath me Lost within our plans for life It all seems so unreal I'm a man cut in half in this world Left in my misery Reverend, he turned to me Without a tear in his eyes Nothing new for him to see I didn't ask him why I will remember The love our souls had sworn to make Now I watch the falling rain All my mind can see now is your Well, I guess you took my youth And gave it all away Like the birth of a new-found joy This love would end in rage And when she died I couldn't cry The pride was in my soul You left me incomplete All alone as the memories now unfold Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the cemetery gates Sometimes when I'm alone I wonder aloud If you're watching over me Some place far abound I must reverse my life I can't live in the past Then set my soul free Belong to me at last Through all those complex years I thought I was alone I didn't care to look around And make this world my own And when she died I should've cried And spared myself some pain You left me incomplete All alone as the memories still remain The way we were The chance to save my soul And my concern is now in vain Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the cemetery gates The way we were The chance to save my soul And my concern is now in vain Believe the word I will unlock my door And pass the cemetery gates Gates Gates

Point is, I reckon I got the best era for genres that were growing exponentially. The common thread for what I liked was rhythm. FYI. The guitarist and drummer were brothers, Darryl and Vinnie Abbott. Side note: Darryl was born 8/20/66, 9 days before me. After Pantera broke up, the Abbott brothers founded another band, Damageplan, and on Dec 8, 2004, Damageplan was performing live when someone from the audience ran onstage, came up behind Darryl and shot him multiple times, killing him along with 3 others; their chief of security, a venue employee and a spectator who tried to intervene. Apparently the guy was a huge Pantera fan and blamed Darryl for the breakup of the band he founded. Vinnie died in 2018 of natural causes. RIP

My thoughts are Metal Music through the decades goes like this, First BLACK SABBATH who invented metal, Next came METALLICA who perfected it's sound, Then comes PANTERA who brought a heavier sound but great musicians and song lyrics and construction. They flourished in the 90's when metal music disappeared from popularity in favor of grunge and rap. And Finally the band for the new millennium that has a hard sound, deep lyrics and very talented musicians SLIPKNOT. For me if your writing the story of heavy metal, these bands are the standard for each era and you can discuss other great bands under the time period of these headliners.

Music is art. It’s all great to someone, which I respect. What I respect even more is someone who is passionate about his or her music and can still acknowledge that a different genre has at least as much talent. A lot of music out there to discover. Glad you discovered one of my favorite

Your reaction to this song is why, if Pantera was still around, I would love to go to a show with you. You truly embody someone who understands and feels music and the story it's telling. I can tell you, this band is in my top 5 live bands, along with The Rolling Stones, Korn, Nine Inch Nails and Stabbing Westward. Keep up the great work sir.

Each one of these videos you seem to like rock and metal more and more than the last one. Despite what people would have you believe, you can absolutely be a fan of both rap and rock/metal. Anyone that would say otherwise has a very narrow way of thinking. There is no reason to put limits to the types of things you enjoy (sonlong as they don't hurt yourself or others). The more you go outside of the box you assign for yourself, the more well rounded you become as a person. That's exactly what you are doing with these reactions, and it is a fantastic thing to see.

Id like to see your reaction to This Love, by Pantera. Crazy story, my girl broke up with me at Ozzfest 2000, I think it was? Just before Pantera came on stage. That song, and that moshpit, was the perfect remedy for how I felt at the time..

Dime's guitar skills are so widely appreciated that Eddie Van Halen offered up his 1979 Bumblebee guitar to be interred with him with the comment "an original deserves an original". My man is buried with a guitar that would fetch a million bucks at auction! EVH built his own "FrankenStrat" to get the sound he wanted from the guitar, also modified his amps... known as one of the greatest innovators and HE payed respects (yea, he drunkenly flubbed at the memorial).

In the old south, people locked their doors when passing a cemetery because they believed the spirit could enter the vehicle. He will unlock his door because he wants her spirit to come in. Hence, the meaning of that line.

You summed up a good chunk of what metal is all about. As was said by the Romanian philosopher Emil Cioran (who might have been a metal fan, but probably wasn't), "my tears would drown the world, as my inner fire would reduce it to ashes". Now that's metal. And yeah, there are definitely people world-wide who know that Dime was a truly amazing guitarist.

As a widower I get this song and at times it is hard to listen to. There is a point when you move between slow, drowning grief, and then you hit hot, fast rage. Been over 6 years now, and I am better, but still have that hole in me. I still need to close those gates.

Dimebag's Pig Squeal is so fucking iconic, i absolutely love Dime and Vinnie, plus their from Arlington, Texas 10 mins from my house I've been to their house a couple times and partied with them, my mom grew up with them, they were great guys. Might be a tab bit biased but idc hands down Best brother duo/ drummer and guitarists duo of all time, Alex and Eddie Van Halen are very close 2nd, in my view.
