Just discovered your channel. I have read all the 9 books. I have read the Lord John books, The Scottish Prisoner, the 2 companion books, Clanlands, Clanlands Almanac and Waypoints.. I'm only mildly obsessed with the books and tv show

YES! Show Roger seems so helpless and passive. Book Roger knew he had a lot to learn about living in the past and was proactive about it! He and Jaime earned each other's respect much sooner... maybe the show just wanted to drag that tension out longer??

Well, it seemed to me that Roger had a lot of bad luck in the books, too. I kept thinking he was Diana's punching bag to vent stuff through. Maybe it's just me. I'm also only on the very start of book 5 as of this comment.

Great Video!!!! I agree, love all the books! My list: 1. Written in my own hearts blood. 2. Voyager 3. Outlander 4. Dragon Fly and Amber 5. Breath of Snow and Ashes 6. Firey Cross 7. Drums of Autumn 8. Echo to the Bone I have not finished Bees...but so far I love it.

Same as you this ranking is measured by infinitesimal degrees because they are all 5 star reads. There are two I honestly cant split so I haven’t! Its my list I can do what I want to 🤣 8. Echo - because I find William incredibly dull in this book. I do love Rachel and Denzell however. I don’t dislike the LJG and Claire thing but it isn’t my favourite storyline of the series. 7. Bees - lower on my list because it takes a while for anything to happen but paradoxically that is also what I love about it - how the characters I love are all together and just living as a family - there are so many character driven scenes and Claire starts coming into her ability. 6. A Breathe of Snow and Ashes - I agree with you Claire’s attack is horrific and I sort of hate myself for liking the section that follows it so much but the rescue and the scenes directly after is a section of the book I have re-read multiple times because I find it so moving. Also I love the headlice chapter - that sticks in my mind so much. 5. Dragonfly in Amber - I love the France section even though it is very sad and there is a sense of dread hanging over me the whole time I’m reading it. = 4. Drums of Autumn - because Jamie gets to meet Bree and I have mad love for the chapters in which Claire finds Jamie injured and woods and recites ‘A Christmas Carol’ to him and the chapter in which Claire sees Otto-Tooth’s ghost - the bit with the shoes it so creepy. = 4. Voyager - just because it is the book in which Jamie and Claire re-unite and those scenes are so good! The plot in this one is mad but I love it! Willoughby is a troubling character in this book - he is written so stereotypically and treated so badly by everyone including J&C. I think the treatment of him is realistically written for the time period it is set in so I try to forgive them for it to a point but it still sucks. 3. Outlander - because it is the OG, the setting is beautiful and it is what pulled me into Diana’s wonderful writing but I think I slightly prefer reading about Claire and Jamie as an established couple so it isn’t my favourite. 2. The Firey Cross - I don’t care what anyone says I freaking love TFC! When I read it there were parts that dragged for sure but when I sit and think ‘I fancy reading some Outlander what section shall I read’ so many of them are from this book. The Beardsleys Cabin, The River Run murder mystery, Alamance, Ghost bear (wtf even it that bit 🤣), Snake bite, Claire and co being accosted by Bonnett. I love it all. 1. Written in my own Hearts Blood - even William cant stop me from making this my number 1. I love everything about this book - Jamie’s jealousy and the way he treats poor John in just hilarious. Ian and Rachel, Dottie and Denzell, the build-up to the battle, Claire being shot, how this book handles Claire’s PTSD, Jamie straight up murdering a dude at the end!

Speaking to how they handled Brianna & Bonnet’s storyline in season 5…I was SO disappointed that they didn’t show the epic way in which Brianna was able to think up a creative way to escape the room Bonnet put her in by busting through the roof. The way Diana wrote it made Brianna such a brave badass and, although she used her wit in the series, I felt like that was a key piece of the story and a missed opportunity on the show’s part.

I am fascinated and intrigued by your Outlander reviews, books and TV show. Right now , I am rereading the books, and I am on book 5 ( The Fiery Cross ). Actually I do read them currently in German, and after that I plan reading them for the first time in English . Your reviews give me a lot food for thought and provides such a better understanding of the saga and characters that I never saw before. I hope you will continue to do more Outlander content and share more of your views . To me there can never be enough . Thank you very much for your work !

Such a challenge, ranking this series! But it's so interesting to hearing your take on it, so thank you! Well, like you, I think they are all brilliant. It's funny, without too much though or review, I would have said that Snow & Ashes and Drums were two of my least favourites, but you've reminded me of so many great points about both of them, especially Drums. lol! Dragonfly would probably be the other one in my bottom three. I found all the political positioning in France less interesting. Master Raymond though.. I really do hope Dianna does a book about him! And I thoroughly loved the bits where Roger, Brianna and Clair were uncovering what happened to Jamie. Think my top three would be Echo, MOBY and Voyager (order?)... Voyager - I actually love seeing a very different side of Jamie when they are apart, and their struggles to find each other again after they've found each other again. And I love when familiar characters unexpectedly come back into the mix (Laoghaire, Lord John, Geillis). Echo and MOBY - I love getting so much William, his interactions with Brianna and young Ian, and all through the book thinking 'he is about to find out who his father is!, but WHEN, and HOW?!' I love the way it did happen, and the repercussions. I love that crazy twist in plot that finds Clair and Lord John married. And Lord Melton shows up! And Jenny is back (I so missed her)! I also love the Hunters and how their storyline is intertwined with both the Fraser/Murrays and the Greys! So much going on, and a lot of inner dialogue to go along with it! I'm going to go check out Taji's video next :)

I am halfway through the books 📚 so I was super worried I was going to find out things I don’t want to know yet (mostly in the last book, since I do know spoilers from the previous ones) but there wasn’t anything much said about Go Tell The Bees 🐝 only that Jamie is alive and well. Thank you Herself for this. And thank you for this video, as always amazing 😘

Great recap Jenn, my top three books are 1. A Breath of Snow & Ashes, 2. Outlander and 3. Dragonfly in Amber. Interesting that you rank Dragonfly in Amber so low, I really enjoyed this one, though I've got to admit that the start of Dragonfly really threw me at first. I really enjoyed the intrigue of their time in Paris and the lead up to the battle of Culloden, heart breaking though it was. I also loved their brief time back at Lallybroch as well. However , this couple don't seem to be fated to lead a quiet and settled life, the fact that so much drama happens to them both is what keeps me reading the books.

I know that I am in the minority, but Bees is one of my favorites. Like you, I love all of the books. I stumbled onto the TV series accidently in mid 2022 on Netflix. I binged through the 5 seasons and waited for season 6. Then I watched season 6 on Starz. Then when Bees came out, I read through all of the books (Including every other book Diana Gabaldon has written) several times before season 7 came out. As with most adaptations, the books are much better than the adaptation. However, as far as adaptations go, this is a very good one. I am old. How I missed this book series is a mystery to me. I guess it has to do with the fact that my 2 sons were born in 1983 and 1986. I am a huge fan of Alice Hoffman (Practical Magic Series of Books) and Marion Zimmer Bradley. (Mists of Avalon Series of Books). I love your channel. I am late to the party, but happy to be here.

I definitely agree with the least favorites, for a lot of the same reasons. Top favorites, I really do not know. Moby is probably higher up for me. I love Claire and John... William calling her Mother Claire... Jamie's wrath ...William hating Jamie, then him realizing that Jamie was the only one to come to his aide, no question, when he tried to save Jane... finally, Jamie "taking care" of the last of the men who hurt Claire...As I started the books late, my wait for book 9 was only 2 years. As such, Seasons 1-4 I watched before the books, and mostly I am ok with any the TV show change... for me I HATE that they robbed Jamie (and Claire) being there for the birth of their first grandchild. Horrible, unnecessary decision....so far with Season 6, I am feeling a bit the same about the ether ...will see how that plays out.

I find it interesting that you dislike DIA for many reasons i do like it. Tho It's not in the top 3. Voyager is my favorite, without doubt. Has many of what i find the most emotional and touching moments in the whole series. The big changes of setting, and bringing it into the bigger story. As for the darkness, i personally enjoy those things because i relate to it quite a lot. It's possibly my favorite novel. The firey cross is the one i honestly struggle to read, i have a hard time even enjoying reading it. I find myself forcing myself to read so i can move on to 6. Largely because i find the pace too slow and so little happens that add to the story but dont quite hit so hard as any of the other books. Book 4 is much the same as 5 for me, tho signifiantly better. But it is still among my least favorite. Another i find myself jumping huge sections. The parts with bree are to me the best parts, and most of the rest. Except the fergus trail. I find it forgetable and meh. Compared to the other books. I find the end of book 7 to among the best parts of the entire series. Overall an amazing book beginning to end. I only put the original 3 and 8 above it, because they are so good themselves. I dont get the william hate. I enjoy him a lot, much more than Bree most of the time. Especially Bree in books 7 and 8, which are the worst aspects of those books for me. Book 8 was hugely disappointing for me. Tho i liked it more the second time reading it. I find myself wanting to skip parts. I really didnt enjoy Ian's parts. For me i think the most disappointing part was not enjoying the parts of Ian/Jenny/Rachel, who are my favorote characters outsode of J&C. 3,1,8,2,7,6,9,4,5. It's kinda fun how i like most of your takes on the series but our favorites are so different. Since 3 of my top 4 are towards to bottom for you. Anyone liking the new one more than 7 and 8, is something i have a very hard time understanding. Lol

Haha, well, it is a very personal thing for everyone. But for me I like Bree and Roger back in the past and all their jumping all over time and space was needlessly confusing for me. But none of these are less than 5 stars for me, so its splitting hairs. You should check out Taji's video for sure because she agrees with you in a lot of ways.

Dragonfly is my least favourite, probably because of all of the political stuff (and Bonnie Prince Charlie is an insufferable arse), and because Claire and Jamie are at such odds throughout their time in France.
