I don't have vrchat but I just love the idea of being a talking plastic monobloc chair that slides around while making stone moving noises.

I hope more monster hunter monsters get made into cute fluffy anthro models, but I totally get why nargacuga is really the only one with a model right now. Very flexible and easy-to-translate design

Nargacuga is actually a species from Monster Hunter. The fandom gave it the nickname "basement kitten".

The whole concept of a "VRChat species" is kind'a wild to me; not in a bad way, just wild. Like I'm someone whose designed a ton of alien species for my universe, and I've been in the fandom for years bearing witness to other folks who have made species for similar reasons that have just happened to catch on in the fandom, like protogens, sergals, ETC. Even though most of these have lore associated with them, the idea of these species solely being created for the purpose of people to have something to VR in... it's such an interesting phenomenon. Like I've RARELY seen art done of wickerbeasts or nardodragons or avalis or rexouiums; they're always just in VR skits, like a completely different artistic ecosystem than just drawn art. I d'know, I guess this phenomenon is just an extension of the older one - seeing as that protogens and other species like synths are really popular in VR - and we just happen to be seeing an explosion of new interesting species that are more accessible now via VR. [EDIT: Accidentally worded that second sentence as if I were the one who designed protogens and sergals. I didn't, LOL, oops; I've just been working on hundreds of my own species and their origins/purposes for being made were similar to the origins of fandom species like protogens. Here's hoping I can get some of those done up in the future. ^.A.^]

I've created a whole bestiary of my own species and maybe sometime in the future if I figure out how to use Blender I'd make some of those available, but I don't have anything that's publicly available right now.

For anyone wondering, 29:54 is Krample's kobold. Very thicc and very well done. It originated in Second Life before Krample started remaking their avatars suitable for VRChat. And pretty sure the pic they have isn't a render. They really do look great in VRChat too. I'm rather sad they put it in C tier.

To be fair, even a nanachi with hair still looks bad. They tried to go for an anime bunny look, but made the face look too human. Turning it to Uncanny Valley territory.

19:25 if it is the Synth I am thinking of (made by IronGut), it's fairly easy to work with. I got it into Blender, altered the visor & ear notches as their own shape keys, altered a few other things (including textures) and got it into VRC as my main avatar, representing my sona Tomin. There are a couple issues, but not much - the normal maps can be tricky to edit if you intend to remove any emissions sources; jaw is controlled via 1 of 2 blendshapes, there is no relevant bone; arms naturally sit too close to the body, so you need Gogo Loco (the expressions in VRC) to fix that; Locomotion appears faster sideways than forwards/backwards due to standing plantigrade; there's only the ability to blink on the visor for base expressions, all other shapekeys alter the body's shape.

The bunny at 27:05 looks like a character from Code Lyoko LMFAO

The Nanachi species in VRChat is actually based on a character named Nanachi from the manga/anime "Made in Abyss". I've always found it amusing how a single character spawned an entire species that has little to do with the source material XD

@Bootles at 31:38 In case you are wondering, the 1st and 5th picture in the C tear are called Kobodals. The first one is a Chibi Kobodal and the 5th one is the norm kobodal. They are common but not as common as the Rexouiums or the nardos, i know this cause my fursona "Shijazin" is a furred dragon and my first retextured VRC avatar is an Chibi Kobodal. I still use it today.

2:10 I rarely get scared in VR. Even horror maps with the jump scares and all that, never really gets me. One time I was in a ghost lobby with a papgen and for some reason I was like "I wonder what it would be like to be cuddled by that" and so I get in front of him, I see two giant paws eclipse my vision, and it all goes dark. I have never been more terrified in VR.

personally I'd put Regulus in S tier and Taidums in C. 14:28 That avatar species is based on Ori from Ori and the Blind Forest. 21:04 The Nargacuga is from Monster Hunter. That species is named "Toastacuga" 27:48 that bunny is based on the Nanachi avi. 29:10 Nicoreda Protogen. 29:45 That's the Snaggletooth Kobold.

For people who don't like the Otter base, there's D.Otter by Darbi, which in my opinion looks much better and has very good features for better expressions and full body tracking.

As someone who regularly uses Jin's Wicker model, I do agree that it is in need of an update (Thankfully Pxinky is updating Jin's model in the future) Though it is interesting how Jin's model opened up the Wickerbeast Species as a whole to the furry community thru VRChat. And if it wasn't for her model, I wouldn't of made a sona out of it, I wouldn't of made a fursuit out of my sona. So it does hold a special place in my heart.

the wicker is such a good design, it also kinda spreads what species you can make with it especially if your also dipping into kobold/dragon territory

My go-to avatar is usually the Valka public by kanan_philaes, which I randomly came across in a Japanese avatar museum; not super optimized but has a few clothing options, and isn't yet as common as [a lot of other fox-type avatars]

Beta Im pretty sure the shrimp that hits hard is a pistol shrimp (prob wrong), but they dont just displace the water and cause delta P they turn it into plasma with how hard they hit.

No beta, is not delta-P. A mantis shrimp uses impact to break shells, kinetic impact, not pressure impact. So a glass aquarium is out of question, fortunately acrylic exist. However you are still looking at the cost of decoration, filtration and stuff. So my guess is that the donation goal would be over 500. Consider other more easier to keep pet.
