I saw him in Porto this week, I was amazed, great performance. While he may not have quite matched the level of DC's performance on "You Fool No One", he was just incredible. But I gotta say, Ash Sheehan is one hell of a drummer, he also did a great solo

I've been a fan of most of Glenn's stuff for some time, be it Hughes/Thrall, Black Country Communion, Dead Daises, Purple, Sabbath, Trapeze, but I was unaware he had much of a solo career, aside from Play Me Out. Thanks for the video, it's inspired me to check these albums out.

Still the best album rankings in the business! Informative, concise and well thought out! I'd be interested in some new album rankings for legacy bands that have released more albums since you ranked them. There's bound to have been some movement within the ranks and it's always interesting to see where the newer albums slot into the fold.

THX so much for putting your list together, Pete. Despite being "the voice of rock," Glenn really doesn't get the recognition that he deserves. If you've read his autobiography, it's a miracle that he's still around at all (let alone performing at a high level). I'm going to play 'Resonate' right now and may just chase it with some California Breed.

If you can find it, Glenn's double live album SOULFULLY LIVE IN THE CITY OF ANGELS recorded during the early 2000's is incredible - - the setlist is a great well-balanced mix of renditions of songs from his solo catalog, Hughes/Thrall, Deep Purple and Trapeze. Also, the first PHENOMENA project album from the mid-1980's - - Glenn sings all the vocals on this one - - is essential listening if you are a true fan of The Voice Of Rock.

Here in the UK, he's not that well known outside of Rock circles but i'm always recommending him to people. Been a fan since i heard his two DP albums in 1984 age 17. Saw him in 1994 in Glasgow with almost all of Europe as his support band. I was literally in tears seeing him live. Saw him again Edinburgh 2005, my girlfriend and i watched him soundcheck and chatted to Bobby Rondinelli, drummer with the Lizards. I got Glenn's plectrum and poster and for both gigs i was on the guest list. Glenn is a survivor and like Jon Anderson his voice just got better with age.

Songs in the Key of Rock (2003) 6. Building the Machine (2001) 7. Return of Crystal Karma (2000) My very favorite album of his overall is the first Hughes Turner album from 2002. Hi Pete, I've loved your band ranking albums segment for a long time, and I was really looking forward to this Glenn Hughes albums rankings. Glenn has been my favorite rock singer bass player for many many years since seeing him with Deep Purple on t.v in 74 California Jam show. I've also seen him solo like 10 or more times in NY. I pretty much agree with your rankings as far as his best solo album being Resonate followed by Addication which are both very heavy and grooving. I'm seeing him and Malmsteen in August, I would have preferred Glenn do his solo stuff instead of Deep Purple set again but anytime you can get to see one of the greatest rock singers do his thing you go no matter what stuff he's singing. I always look forward to your shows, you're a huge music fan like myself and I really love your take on hard rock and prog music. Thanks Pete for the great informative stuff.

Great job Pete, love Glenn Hughes! I agree with your top choice Resonate is so heavy, crunchy & groovy all at the same time, it's amazing! Number 2 for me is From Now On, love it start to finish! In 3rd would be Songs In The Key of Rock! The whole catalogue is strong with very few "weaker" tracks as long as you have a taste for the FUNK & SOUL and can appreciate it for what it is! The man is simply a talent unrivaled at his age, honestly! The work he's doing with the Dead Daisies these days smokes!! All the best Pete Keep Rockin'!!

It's incredible how his voice is still powerful after half a century. Saw him here in Brazil some years ago. My favourites are, no specifical order: the first album, SOUL MOVER, MUSIC FOR THE DIVINE and FUNK. For the curious ones, he has many participations in tributes: Dio, Jethro Tull, Alice Cooper, Queen, ELP, Pink Floyd and, of course, Jon Lord.

Their Album "Shot" was probably their best mainstream mixed album but "Liar" and "Goat" were pretty spectacular. Duane Denison on guitar, David Sims on bass, and Mac on drums. Great "LIVE BAND". I know the mid to late 1990's got weird and corporate moving forward but there were still some bands before the mayhem. Some of the "Squares" must like this band

Very seldom You rank one's most recent album as the best one. Surprised. I wouldn't say that "Resonate" is musically stronger than "In The Key Of Rock" or, say, "Feel", but it is one of his best albums for sure.

I am aware of Hughes from his Deep Purple years when he had a big drug problem ( not sure which drugs though). So does he still have a drug/ performance problem ? Or is he now drug free ?

So I have 28 Hughes albums under his name including collections, boots & live records. As Pete said there are 13 official studio releases plus A Soulful Christmas (which I don't have). I'll throw 'em all into the mix here except for the best of's/anthologies (listed separately at the bottom): 1. Soul Mover 2. The Way It Is, From Now On, Burning Japan Live, Addiction, Play Me Out 3. Live At Maritime Hall, Songs In The Key Of The Rock, Soulfully Live In The City Of Angels, L.A. Blues Authority Volume II 4. The Official Bootleg Set Vol 1, Feel 5. Building The Machine, Different Stages, First Underground Nuclear Kitchen, Live At Wolverhampton 6. Resonate, Return Of Crystal Karma 7. Talk About It, Music For The Divine, Live In Australia For collections: This Time Around, An Anthology 1970 - 2007, 1996 DEP Sessions (really an Iommi collab), A Tribute To Tommy Bolin (Hughes And Friends), Sessions Man (excellent 4-cd boot from '91), Four On The Floor ('79 album featuring an uncredited Hughes on vocals plus Richie Hayward, Paulinho Da Costa, Jeff Baxter, Al Kooper), Justified Man: The Studio Albums, Greatest Hits/The Voice Of Rock, From the Archives Volume I - Incense & Peaches...In terms of total discography my Glenn Hughes playlist is about 330 tracks deep. I always thought that Emerson/Hughes/Bonilla, Hughes Turner Project & Hughes/Thrall were really interesting, plus the Robin George/Glenn Hughes album Sweet Revenge (not to mention Trapeze & Voodoo Hill)

You have to rate "Christmas with Glenn Hughes" as the absolute worst in his solo catalog... what was he thinking?

As said above these albums are all varying degrees of ‘solid’. I’ve listened to all these at some stage but there’s nothing close to ‘great’ on them. The song writing just isn’t strong enough.

Immense singer. Possibly not the greatest song writer as despite his output he has no classics for me: album or possibly even tracks

Saw Deep Purple MK 3 in 1974 in Chicago. Couldn't stand yelping Hughes trying to replace Gillan and Glover .Made a career from one great DP album and 2 half rock half funk DP records and is doing it to this very day. Mentally scarred ever since! [Sorry Pete. I know that's your guy.]
