Anthrax Stomp 442 & Volume gets no love!!! I love both of those albums. Ironically those were the 2 best Anthrax shows I’ve ever seen: Buffalo July 1996 w/ The Misfits and Toronto August 1998. Shout out to Martin for having the Volume 8 promo cd w/ diff cover. I got it too 🔥🔥🔥🔥 as well as that Inside Out cd single. Their cover of The Bends is amazing.

Most of these albums are the reason I mainly gravitate towards Death Metal and Prog Metal for the 90s. My “hot take” as well is I personally prefer Peace Sells to Rust in Peace, and Seasons in the Abyss never did the same thing as Hell Awaits or Reign in Blood for me. I also don’t hate the Black album as much as most people do though. The big thing for me is that if I want to hear radio rock or lighter stuff, I don’t want to hear it from thrash bands.

The heyday of 'big four' thrash bands was the '80s, not the '90s. The music business tried to erase thrash in the Summer of 1991. Only acts like Suicidal Tendencies, Nuclear Assault, Rancid, S.O.D., Rage, Overkill, (and I would argue progenitors Motorhead, and Accept) stayed badass thrash. The rest of the thrash acts turned '90s Nu 'metal' quicker than the Rolling Stones & the Bee Gees turned disco in the mid-'70s.

I don't understand why people still try to separate grunge and metal, like metal disappeared with the rise of grunge, while not every grunge band was embracing it, the two best alice in chains and soundgarden in my opinion had alot of metal inspiration in their songs

Personally i love Undisputed Attitude from Slayer,They picked some great covers back in the 90s i was into punk and Thrash And Death metal so i definitely was a staple in my list of albums from that time.Diablous in musica didnt really like it at the time but dig it alot more now, sure they left that thrash sound behind but it was still a very heavy album and theres some good groove too it.I wouldn't classify it anywheres as a "Nu Metal"album like alot of people do.

I enjoyed Load and Reload well enough for what they were. Those albums get accused of being Metallica going alt-rock, but I hear Metallica going 70's hard rock instead. But I do have to admit, that if you cherry picked the best material from both disks, you'd have one really strong and creative album.

I really Load and Reload when they came out and still dig them today. I got into metal as a teen in the early 90s, loved the thrash stuff and the Black Album but for me when they came out with Load they were one of the coolest bands on the planet! Yes they changed but so did The Beatles going through the 60s and in both cases those changes kept the bands massive. And you make a great point about Metallica going for 70s hard rock (which is what a lot of grunge acts did too) If in an alternate universe a rock band put out Load/Reload songs in the 1970s they'd have been as big as Led Zepp!

Couldn’t disagree more about Load and Reload. Tons of atmosphere and depth in those albums, listen to those way more now than the 80’s albums thrash gets boring too quick for me anyways.

I love this topic. I think Megadeth had the best 90s releases. Two anyway. An absolute classic in Rust, and a minor classic in Countdown. The Black album was good. Anthrax Persistence and Sound of white noise were great albums. Slayer never released a bad album. Exodus had some lackluster albums in the nineties. Overkill never gets any love. My favorite Testament album came out in 92. I could go on and on about this, but i wont. Good day.

"Load" and "Reload" would be a very good single 10-track album without all the fillers. "Youthanasia" and "Cryptic writings" are good Heavy Rock albums. Slayer in this period was....bizarre except for "Seasons in the abyss" but for me it counts as an 80s album (1990) Anthrax also did some great stuff then. I prefer Bush over Belladonna as a singer. "Stomp 442" is very weak though Oh...and "Rust in peace" is a masterpiece but for me also 80s (1990)

Outlaw Torn is the best song on Load and Reload combined. Its got amazing atmosphere and top notch vocals and lyrics from James. I guess some like Martin can find it boring but for me its so amazing. Thats how you do a album closer, right. I think Fixxxer on Reload was attempt to copy that same formula and its ok but not as good.
