Our hutch is a necessity here. My rabbit originally lived in her hutch 24/7 in a basement with no natural light. When we adopted her, she upgraded to a huge x pen area attached to her hutch. Her hutch is her safe place and she loves it. Another benefit is that we used to keep her litter box, hay and water bowl in there which centralized cleanup. We no longer do that, but she still sleeps in the hidey part of her hutch every day. She‘ll use other hides and tunnels, but her hutch is by far her favorite.

I personally think hutches are amazing for temporary situations, like allowing them to have a safe area to play in outside during the day when it's warm, or like in my case during extreme construction inside, so they don't get as stressed. I don't agree with them being permanent for a rabbit, but temporary it's a great item. Like an outside play pen :)

@@Foxesrule11 I've been enjoying using my second hand hutch as a hide in my home, now that I've moved into an apartment where they get to freeroam during the day and stay in our insulated balcony with the hutch during the night. During construction of our old place it allowed for a safe temporary place to have them temporarily and they enjoyed the grass and basking in the sun. It's definitely a back of the cabinet item if used correctly and not as their only home. I'm glad somebody agrees with me!

@@lavenderfieldd because we have a cat and don't want to risk anything happening between them while we're not there to supervise. Besides that, we do not have mats all over our floor so incase the younger of the two buns pees on the floor (she still doesn't understand that she should pee in her litter box only), we'd like to clean it right away so the pee doesn't seep into the floor. The balcony they're in is completely insulated, room temp at all times, is 4x2m and has all their stuff in it, besides the hutch, which is in the living room for daily use.

It’s because some manufacturers couldn’t care less about the health of the pet. As long as there’s a cash flow they are fine. It’s disgusting how far some people will go for money Also key word: *some* not all manufacturers are like this there are good brands that care about the animals health and quality of their life I’m not discriminating and stereotyping all pet brands just pointing out a few manufacturers

I think the worry with buying hutches and cages is that you often give money to companies that are advertising them as permanent enclosures... I'm not about to judge people for that cos its really difficult to find ethical suppliers of small animal stuff but if you can avoid it that's always a bonus... recycling secondhand hutches, building your own, or buying from ethical online shops that advertise cages as accessories (not permananent houses) are all good ways to avoid this problem. I 100% agree that hutches and cages can be wonderful tools but I get why a lot of influencers feel iffy about promoting them in case they're used for the wrong reasons (permanant confinement), as this is unfortunately very common.

Agreed! My rescue bunny that I randomly found (she was dumped at a Dunkin Donuts) was kept in a small dog crate with a cover (doors left open) until she was confident enough to explore her now fully bunnified bedroom….she still goes in there (door is wide open at all times) for comfort and to eat…I keep her water bowl and hay rack in there. I made an adorable rabbit print fabric cover for it so it’s like a “glamping tent” 🐰

My parents have bought a large 2m hutch for my bunny and we are going to be keeping it indoors. Everyday while my precious bun is under my supervision she will roam around the living room for like 2-3 hours and if she doesn’t smell to much my parents may consider a playpen. The hutch is super large and double story.

I have a hutch, but in my living room HAHA - and all the doors are always open. I love it, and my bunny girl knows that, that's hers to destroy and do whatever she wants and it looks super cute- plus all the floors are wood except the bottom is this cool tray that pulls out ( I keep a blankie in it, but it makes for the easiest clean up). It's the only wood space now that she chews, the baseboards are thanking me.

Agree with most of this except for me, the x-pen is an absolute, must ALWAYS have. I’ve used mine for: sectioning off the buns when something around the house is being done that could be risky for them (repairs, if a cleaner is coming in, etc); obviously for bonding, for after their neuter and spay surgeries or if they aren’t feeling well and I need to monitor them, for sectioning off things I don’t want them to chew, for containing foster bunnies if you work with a rescue, for containing dumped bunnies if you’ve ever saved one off the street (I’ve done this twice in the last year), for travel, I don’t personally bring them outside, but if you were someone who took them into a garden or onto a deck, protecting them with a pen is the least you should do. There’s probably more I could think of but this is just off the top of my head. I LOVE my tall x-pen.

Our vet and one of the techs that raises rabbits recommended us keep her water bottle over a bowl because female Flemish Giants develop large dewlaps (hers started before puberty) and they said that area getting wet can lead to irritation and infection, and in that area it is basically a death sentence for a domestic rabbit! 🥺 So I definitely agree that on average the hanging bottles aren't the best option, for our pet bun it is a necessity!

I got a rabbit in 8th grade. i'm currently 19 and in college. My rabbit looked identical to yours and her name was Hazel. Whilst I did do research at 13... I still wasn't completely educated and in 2015/2016 there wasn't as many resources to turn to. She was in my room in a playpen. I never gave her greens... (she did have a hidey, 24/7 hay, and most essentials.) She never free roomed except when I let her in my parents room or outside in a playpen. I groomed her regularly. I put her upside down a lot because an (very uneducated) breeder said they liked it. Now I know it caused her little body so much stress. Going into my freshman year, I was struggling to care for her. She kept having diarrhea, but was acting completely normal and had no issues. I decided somehow the care I was giving her wasn't enough and gave her up to a rabbit rescue. To this day I don't know where she is but I'm beyond guilty for the care she did not receive properly. It makes me so upset that I didn't research more and realize how much care they actually need. I'm planning to get another rabbit in 4 years when I'm out of college and have a permanent place. I know know all the essentials they need, but I still feel so guilty about Hazel when I was 13. Thank you for this channel and important information! I wish I found this at 13.

I have a really hard time getting my bunny to drink enough water. When I give him his leafy veggies I spray them with water right before I give them to him. A special needs bunny is a lot of work, but as far as I am concerned, he is my baby. I love to have somebunny that needs me. My children are grown and I was really lonely before I rescued him. He was born with a splayed leg in the back and short twisted feet in the front. I have to wash his poor little butt every day because his spine won't let him turn enough to do it himself. He hates getting his butt washed. After butt washing I have to wrap him in a towel even though only his butt is damp. Then he wants me to carry him like a baby and walk around so that he can look around for things to get into. The vet says that he seems to be a happy, healthy bunny and that he isn't having any pain. I hope that he will be able to have a long happy life. Taking care of him makes me feel better. I'm sorry for the long comment. I am special needs too and my bunny is the only one I have to talk to.

You are definitely a California guy! The ways you describe things, express yourself, and how fast talk. Please don't take that as anything offensive i lived in California for a short while... you're cute when you talk.😘 (Don't let my KZread user name fool you)

This is my first rabbit. She's a Cashmere Lop. Last week was her 2nd Vet visit and they were very surprise how healthy she is. She just had her 3rd birthday, she is 7.0 lb., very healthy. She is not spade or shots. She doesn't need them. She's a house rabbit and when she starts her training to be a Certified Animal then we will have shots. Even the Vet said so. I give her kale in morning, Salad without spinach (which she does not like), white and red cabbage (sparingly), a very thin peace of carrot, and some broccoli (sparingly). For a treat at 9:30 pm she gets some pineapple & papaya or fresh small piece of banana. I do feed her Timothy pellets and hay. I cannot us a pee pad as she chews them. But she is healthy and I adore her. She plays with my little dog a lot and they are best friends. Thank you for sharing everything with me. G. Timm

Thank you so much for this video it’s super helpful ! I got two rabbits recently because the owner believed they needed someone who could care more for them and I definitely fell for some advertising and misinformation when getting supplies for them, again thank you for making this video !

I was expecting a treat dispenser ball to be on the list. I put a few pellets in my bun's and its super fun watching him push the ball around trying to get them out.

I'm getting my bunnies in 2 weeks, I personally have a big hutch outside with an extra space outside the hutch about 2,80m x 3m. They will only go outside in the summer and when i'm there with them. The hutch is for protection and a safe space for them. They also have a big inside pen, that will be their ''home'', their are gonna be free roaming but the pen is for the nights and when we aren't home (we are home 90% of the time)

11:31 i have guinea pigs as well as one rabbit (dont worry they are seperately housed) and i often buy these for my pigs cause they love them but ive given the ones that have more loose bits of paper / dry grass on the inside to my rabbit, cuddles, and he absolutely loves eating the little strings of paper, but otherwise nothing else. for toys, unless its like mineral or something definitely not good for your rabbit, toys always depending on your rabbit. cuddles's favourite toys are a simple plastic cup and those ball-in-a-cage thingys! he loves toys that make noise.

I like this style very much. Succinct, easy to see, follow, and understand. And remember. You forgot the palm leaf bowls. A hutch is essential for apartment dwellers. Wben we have a repair man here, or carpet cleaning going on, and you don't have an extra room they may end up in their carrier for that duration.

My bunny has an ex pen, I just adopted him two weeks ago, I can't wait for him to get neutered so can roam around the house without having as many accidents, I already have so many other toys for him to play with. I'm so excited to spend more intimate and quality time with my bun 🐰 he won't have to be in that area anymore and I'm excited to train him to get his small day's worth of treats. It's going to be so lovely having him free roam💗💕💕

I agree with most of your ranking. My Ben came to me using a water bottle so that's what I continued with. In Ben's last year with me the bottle was helpful after being dehydrated, I could mark the bottle and see what he was drinking. However I did introduce a bowl with some crushed fruit in it while I was watching to encourage more water intake. He had some balance issues so I didn't want to leave him unattended with the bowl. It is important to keep the bottle clean and fresh water every day.

Rabbits are definitely a more high maintenance animal to take care of by yourself. I got my rabbit the start of college. I recommend maybe starting with a hamster depending on your age. I only say this because when I first wanted a bunny in middle school, nothing could have prepared my bank account for that first vet bill. So just keep that in mind that rabbits can be very expensive on a weekly bases.
