NOTE TO VIEWERS After recording this video, I realised one of my intended picks for 1982 didn’t make it into the final vinyl pile for some inexplicable reason 🤔 That album was ‘Eligible Bachelors’ by The Monochrome Set. Lovely indiepop with a bit of jangle and witty, wordy lyrics courtesy of frontman Bid. My fave songs off this album are ‘The Jet Set Junta’, ‘I’ll Scry Instead’, ‘The Mating Game’ and ‘The Ruling Class’. I have a 2014 Ltd Ed pressing of this album, and the vinyl is beige-coloured. I also want to give an honourable mention to ‘Pelican West’ by Haircut 100. This album, also in my collection, missed the final cut by a hair’s breadth (I’ll stop now!), but it’s an enjoyable pop album in a light and frothy way. Fave songs on this one are ‘Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)’, ‘Love Plus One’, ‘Lemon Fire Brigade’ and ‘Fantastic Day’. Many thanks and best wishes, Christian

Huge fan of Lou Reed and The Blue Mask is one of his best. Also love XTC (but not as much as Glen Kellaway, ha ha!) The Damned, The Cure and Elvis Costello. Was hoping you would show Sparks "Angst In My Pants" but overall some great choices for sure!

Hi Larry! Yes, I think ‘The Blue Mask’ could well be my fave Lou Reed album, but I love ‘Street Hassle’, ‘Transformer’, ‘New York’ and ‘Berlin’ too 😊 I’m delighted you love XTC and I’m so happy to discover that Glen, who has just very kindly subscribed to my channel, is also a big fan of Swindon’s finest. Yes, that’s a great shout on ‘Angst in My Pants’, with its iconic cover, but I don’t own it on vinyl so I couldn’t show it. I’m very pleased you approved of my other picks and thank you for your time 🙏 Best wishes, Christian

Alright Mate, I have got some of those, quite a lot not and some I have never heard of !!!. So to The Jam , like your brother I adored them and The Gift had the problem of following three stone cold classics, this was a time when their b sides were better than most artists a sides. I think it came out after the split was announced and all fans of the band were in mourning , so it really suffered .Its good but not great. I hated The Style Council with a passion and only reconnected with Weller on his solo albums. Enjoyed the video and look forward to some more. Take Care.

Hi Alfie 😊 Many thanks for your message 🙏 I’m pleased to hear you have some of my picks, and I also hope some of the ones you haven’t heard of may be considered for further exploration. I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on both The Jam and ‘The Gift’. You raise a very fair point in that ‘The Gift’ followed a trio of absolutely superb albums, so there was always a chance that a slight dip in quality was on the horizon. I totally agree too as regards the quality of their B-sides. They’re one of Britain’s all-time best when it comes to ‘songs from the other side’, and I would personally put The Smiths, Suede and Oasis up there too. I can imagine it must have been an emotional time for Jam fans and ‘The Gift’, with it being released posthumously, so maybe that did leave its mark in relation to the reception it received. Your path goes in a different direction to my brother’s, in that he very much stayed on board for The Style Council, but great to see you reconnected again with Weller’s solo career. Thanks again for the kind comments and best wishes, Christian

Your passion for music had such a large impact on me as a child, and I thank you for the influence and inspiration you have provided whilst I’ve been on my own musical journey. Granny’s appetite for music was huge, so it’s lovely that so many of us - across the generations - have followed suit in that regard. I’m so pleased you enjoyed what I had to say and that I have perhaps persuaded you to try out some new music. If there’s anything you do end up checking out from this list, do let me know. Really enjoyed watching this, Christian. Quite a few of my favourites in there, especially "Strawberries" which is my favourite Damned album. The only three albums I bought in 1982 as a 9/10 year old were "V Deep" by the Boomtown Rats, "Friend Or Foe" by Adam Ant and "The Rise & Fall" by Madness. The Madness one is the only of one those I go back to on a fairly regular basis though. Looking forward to watching more of these!

Ten songs I love from 82: (Hey, you mentioned 5 of these albums!) 1. Desperate But Not Serious - Adam Ant 2. The Hanging Garden - The Cure 3. Bap De La Bap - The Associates 4. Bring Your Love Down (Didn’t I) - Yaz/Yazoo 5. Poison Arrow - ABC 6. All We Ever Wanted Was Everything - Bauhaus 7. Big Sleep - Simple Minds 8. I Melt With You - Modern English 9. Hallowed Be Thy Name - Iron Maiden 10. When I Am With You - Translator You made an hour feel like mere minutes! Well-done.. so many of the albums you showed would be new listens for me. Hiya, Michele! 😊 Well right off the bat, your #1 song pick for 1982 is awesome! I absolutely love that song… definitely one of Adam’s classics ✅ I love the rest of your song picks too, with other personal faves (not mentioned in my vid, such as ‘Poison Arrow’ and ‘The Hanging Garden’) being ‘Bap de la Bap’, ‘Big Sleep’ and ‘I Melt with You’. Thank you so much for saying the hour appeared to breeze by 🙏 I was a bit worried I had rambled on for too long (my laptop battery died, so I had to re-record my ending and tack it on 🙈), so your words have provided a great deal of reassurance. I would also be eager to know which of my picks would be new listens for you. Are there any in particular which piqued your interest? Thank you also for saying you felt I wove in some musical connections naturally 🙏 They were tidbits popping into my head as I spoke, and I am hoping to umm and err a bit less as I go on! 😆 I’ll try to keep the flow flowin’ and curls curlin’ as best as I can, so until next time thanks again! @@TheVinylSanctuary Hi Christian! There’s just something about Adam Ant. Oh so many…The Damned, The Dream Syndicate, and Orange Juice in particular. I do love ‘Crumbling The Antiseptic Beauty’ especially “Evergreen Dazed” and “Birdmen” I did a 1982 deep dive on another channel (you know the one - J, J, & K) but I still feel like I only scratched the surface. I love the early 80s and there is so much yet to discover! From my songs list, I think you’d really enjoy the album Translator - Heartbeats And Triggers. My ears are partial to UK bands around this time, but Translator stands out among American acts.
