Last story and pandoras tower are some of the best wii games of all time

Xenoblade is definitely S tier, for me it was the best jrpg i played since the ps2 era

The fact the one Wii crystal chronicles port could do a semi-decent way to emulate DS games on a TV screen makes me more pissed off then anything that we never got a publicly released DS/3DS player for the Wii and especially the Wii U.

Or more than 15 DS games on the Wii U Virtual Console. It's funny how people forget how disasters the early days of the 3DS was and Nintendo did everything in their power to fix the Nintendo 3DS but they did nothing to fix the Wii U. the only thing that they ever did was discontinue the eight gigabyte model... which was cheaper you pretty much had to upgrade and get a external hard drive even if you did have a 32 GB version and Nintendo never officially gave the Wii U a price drop it's like they wanted the thing to fail.

I think Xenoblade deserved to be S tier along with Fire Emblem.

@@Ubu90 True, but still what they managed to do on the Wii is really impressive. I think it is the best RPG for that generation, better than every RPG on the PS3 and Xbox360 as well. The game lacked in graphics, but it compensated with story, gameplay and a huge world.

It still baffles me that the Wii has ten times as many RPGs as the Wii U. Third parties were really ignoring the Wii U. :( Oh well, at least I can play these Wii RPGs on my Wii U.

But, he has no charisma, and his enthusiasm can't make-up for his word vomit. Vomit he spews repeatedly for multiple titles. And, really, lowering the ranking of a game because the game was released a decade and two console generations later as the _only_ reason? I'm laughing so hard I'm in danger of flaring the pilot light!

@@martinefraser2817 imagine being incapable of realizing that this is a common complaint across _all_ of his videos.

I think most people like Super Paper Mario primarily for its amazing story rather than the gameplay of switching between 2D and 3D which imo was rather underdeveloped. I feel the gameplay is serviceable, not great but just inoffensive, combined with the absolute best story in all the paper mario games I've played I'd place it in either A or B.

I knew I remembered that town theme from Crystal Bearers before. It was almost 10 years since I played that game for the original Wii and when I viewed one of your recent videos and I heard the town theme and those bagpipes, I was trying so hard to figure out where had I heard that music before and finally when you mentioned Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers, I instantly remembered why that theme sounded so familiar to me.

I thought the Last Story was a great game. On certain lists that I’ll massively disagree that the game is terrible, I felt that for a game on the Wii, it had a lot of things going for it. People complain that the story and characters were generic, but I feel that it was done well enough and the presentation held everything together to make it feel like a storybook game. The gameplay was pretty good! Even though some hack and slash feels monotonous, it has some things to make it not too tedious. I do hope that there’s another last story game in the future. Hell, it’s be cool if there was a definitive edition on a Nintendo console.

I've got a fairly easy request. You should review every SNES RPG. There weren't a whole lot and most of them were pretty great. Honestly I'm just curious on what your thoughts are on Paladin's Quest and some other SNES RPGs you've never talked about.

Muramasa is the reason I bought a wii console; played through the game five times to completion. Did play others like arc rise Fantasia, xenoblade chronicles, Pandora’s tower, last story, and others but muramasa was where my wii journey began.

Very few RPGs on the system because RPGs require you to pay attention to a story and learn an often complicated battle system -- and probably something like 95 percent of people who bought the Wii only wanted to pretend like they were bowling for five minutes every now and again.

Great list, and I agree with most of your rankings! I am happy to see you give "Arc Rise Fantasia" the love it deserves. It is definitely an "A" game, maybe even an "S" depending on one's tastes. I probably clocked at least 100 hours on that game and fell in love with its characters, its soundtrack, and its battle system. Like you said, the bosses bordered on being TOO hard, but I did appreciate the game giving me a run for my money. Except for a handful who could heal themselves, I never felt it was being unfair. However, I will say I wish you had given Pandora's Tower at least an "A". That game it outstanding.

Just saying the little king story plays exactly like Pikmin, I really want another one since there's a lot of place for a second series like this

I'm sensing a bias about motion controls because I thought that they were incredibly good in Pandora's Tower and it made boss fights even more fun :c

Are you gonna talk about the recent fan translations? Earth Seeker, Takt Of Magic and, 3 Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games all got translated in the span of a year! Last year actually! It really gives western Wii fans more RPG goodness to try. Also Zangeki No Reginleiv got translated as well, but that's a bit more action oriented? Still worth giving all those games a try for sure

The funny part about Rune Factory Tides of Destiny is that as long as I remember, it has the simplest Farming Gameplay in it's series, specially if we compare it to any main series Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game .

This is why I never got big into wii. Seriously a console library having so few rpgs is always 1 nail in its coffin so sad.

I loved opoona. Amazing soundtrack and maps. Too bad it was somewhat easy. Artepiazza wanted to develope a sequel unfortunately the game did not sell very well. Hopefully one day we get a remake.

Pandora's Tower can be played with a classic controller so that the Wiimote mechanic is no longer needed. As a result, it should be adjusted to A tier on your list since the primary issue is addressed. Outside that, it's an overall good list since it's based on your preferences with good explanations. I personally would have put xeno, last story, and pandora on S tier along with fire emblem.

What about Fragile Dreams? Wikipedia calls it an Action RPG. I haven't played it for some time, but as I recall that's fairly accurate.

Man why is Fiora in the miniature? Was it necessary?

I'm currently playing Xenoblade on Switch and I love that game. I also like Sypmfonia 2. But I never played a single RPG on the Wii itself.

After listening to this list I had to remember my experience trying to play the new Sakura Wars on the PS4. I thought the battle system was okay, when I could actually get to it that is. You will practically spend 30 mins or more running around talking to the various girls and dealing with the dialogue options before getting into a 5-10 min battle (depending on how good you are) and then repeating it. I just couldn't get into it at all.

Sakura Wars on PS4 is the 6th game and while only to have gotten localized all six games are like that. It's not really an RPG per se it's a visual novel with a battle system every 30 minutes. It's closer to Phoenix Wright than anything.

Radiant Dawn was not only my introduction into Fire Emblem, but also the only reason I still own my Wii. Completed it more than 200 times and still not tired of it.

Hell I didn't even know about that second Harvest Moon RPG and I am pretty up on them. The protagonist fighting looked like some sort of sword dancer, and I always prefer agility based sword users, as opposed to strength based.

I recommend frontier rather than tides of destiny. Frontier has decent combat that scales with your level. Both are strength based. Tides of Destiny has a fancy sword dance but is just one button press. Sorry. (also in TOD an early NPC quest gives you a decent weapon - axe type- that is pretty op if you never want to blacksmith or level grind, you can even use it in the final boss.)

Other then Xenoblade, Radiant Dawn, and SPM, I had no clue that was this many JRPGS on the Wii, wish they would port or remake the Tellius Fire Emblem games

I'll say this about Baroque.. The Wii version is a remake of the original Saturn version. While the Nintendo Switch version that came out in 2020 is a remaster of the original port on PS1. Arc Rise Fantasia, oh man 🤣 The only thing of note I remember was how Nintendo had them censor the pink haired girl's underboob lol

Little kings story is like.... pikmin. BUT!!! Even though gameplay is pretty smooth and some people might enjoy it. the BIGGEST PROBLEM FOR ME was the SOUNDTRACK. (Seriously, I had to play this game with the sound off) OMG THE SOUND TRACK IS ... uhh. It plays known classical music as its entire theme. During cutscenes during gameplay during the overworld. If your someone who doesn't recognize this iconic music - you'll have a great time. But if your someone who recognizes the royalty free music that plays on KZreadrs backgrounds or just- a lover of classical music?- you'll get so friggin tired of the sound track fast. I don't know how to describe it. The music is so familiar that I know I've heard it before... but I don't know what the songs name is. It kinda feels like.... listening to the nut cracker musical? its amusing the first time .... but painfully loops.

okay so I listened to the sound tracks just to remember what the problem was... I don't know. A lot of people seem to like it? But the first theme is literally a graduation theme... I want to yawn. Anyone whos been to school in the USA must recognize this... .is that why people are calling the music nostalgic? Cuz its vagualy familiar? Whatever... If you enjoy the music, good on you. But if your curious, listen to some OST ( original sound track) from the game.

While I have played Wii games in general I have NEVER played a Wii JRPG just because of a lack of access over time, a general disinterest in it as a JRPG platform and a lack of knowledge about the options for doing so. The Wii has never really compelled me enough in regards to games of this genre, but its clear I have missed out on a few interesting and unique experiences like Opoona, and more well known ones like the Last Story and Pandora's Tower. I am shocked through your crushing of Dragon Quest: Swords a while back that that did not end up in the E tier. Also, that Valhalla Knights game.......any game with a super bland and uninspiring color palette like that is almost a surefire way for me to not give a single damn about a game. Wow does that look bland. Great video! These ranking vids are a lot of fun!

Can you do one of these with the ps2 console that would be great but it would be hard there was so so many rpgs for the ps2..

I got the vast majority of the good games on the wii, trying to do so now is difficult now that gamestop doesn't really have wii anymore.

Xenoblade and The Last Story are definitely fire games. Super Paper Mario was the shit too!

I really tried to love Radiant Dawn but I got pissed off with the constantly changing party. I really love that feeling of growing your army and focusing on developing your favorite units and Radiant Dawn ruined that. I gave up in Part 3 when you control the Dawn Brigade again as that mission was just too frustrating.

Actually, if you watch trailer of a favorite movie, it can be amazing how many “spoilers” you will see. You see them as spoilers because you’ve already experienced the full movie (or game) and you know how to place what you’ve just seen in context.

Monster hunter tri, is a GREAT (babys- first) monster hunter. Unlike other monster hunter titles (excluding world), this one has a STORY to help a village being attacked. You can watch the village grow as you complete objectives and generally have a great time. Unlike other MH games (excluding world), this one had a free exploration outside the village, so you didn't have to be on a quest to get that last minute material. And heck, sometimes big monsters were just outside the village so it was a pleasant surprise to check the weather and explore. I liked the underwater combat, even if fighting bosses underwater was a bit annoying, but later versions of the game removed it entirely, and now I kinda miss it. Two things tho! Warnings? Spoilers? Take it as you will. 1. The online mode was what made this games very special to me. I would hang out with mates and get new armor online, quests were easier in a group. But now Nintendo doesn't have the online playability anymore so you'll never see those fun quests or city again. (1.5 There is a co-op mode, as advertized not the back of the box. DONT BE FOOLED. You CANNOT join this game with a sibling. The co-op mode is a stupid minigame in a tournament with a monster to the death. You cannot explore. You cannot add its loot to your inventory. its kill does not count in game for quests. (And I don't even think you can bring your own character. you have choose from a set that they give you, so if you are unfamiliar with a certain weapon type, your SOL) 2. Gem system is not explained in the game, nor is there a handy location chart to get materials. If you point at the screen it saves the needed materials in your book, but never tells you what region its located in, what moster has it etc... I had to spend many times on the wiki walkthrough trying to understand that a certain bug only appears on this one part of the map like 10% of the time? Or that these enemies I'd walked by a million times actually had a chance of giving me the material I needed.

I enjoyed the Wii JRPG library over the 360 and PS3. I know I'm trash.

It wasn’t a remake, it was a port. A remake would at least given it HD graphics. That said, it’s one of the most weird Japanesey games I’ve ever played, and I absolutely loved it. And it is completely unique-I guarantee you’ve never played anything like it! (I was not aware of the Saturn version, only seen it on Wii and PS2)

If only the original Nintendo Wii (and the Nintendo Wii U for that matter) were not Region Locked, I would have had more JRPGs for the Nintendo Wii since I came from a PAL region that had to rely on games coming to Europe before I could buy them.

Could never beat Pandora’s Tower because of a game breaking glitch :,(

they are top tier, not only individually but as a whole. The whole Legend of Heroes series is a complete journey with different characters on the same continent. The worldbuilding, character development, characters, battle system, story and music are awesome. In some of these aspects the series beats every other JRPG. How you want to play them is up to you. You can start with Trails of Cold Steel 1 to get better into the battle system and start after that with the prequels oder start with the prequels right at the beginning. This is the order of the games (you can and should buy all games on steam by the way, besides the cold steel games, they are good on PS4 too) and each subseries takes place in another country: - Trails in the Sky FC (First Chapter) - Trails in the Sky SC (Second Chapter) - Trails in the Sky The 3rd - Zero no Kiseki (Trails to Zero, it was never localized outside Japan, but there is an very very good fantranslation patch under this Name, you need a copy or digital of the japanese game or download it for free on your own, GOG Version for example) - Ao no Kiseki (Trails to Azure, there is a fantranslation by the same team. It is not completely finished yet, can´t wait to play it.) - Trails of Cold Steel 1-4

@@abdoazar8343 Yeah the most part of the 3rd in the sky game is fighting, but the memory doors were awesome. So much story inside them. no I even haven´t played CS3, I want to finish the second crossbell game first, so I need to wait for the translation. And Cold Steel 4 is not the last game. But how I know Falcom they sure will made a badass ending.

I gotta say, now that Xenoblade is available on the Switch as a superior experience and other games have been remastered on the Wii U, PS3, and Switch, the only games I would say are worth playing on a Wii right now are Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Last Story, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Paper Mario (not as a sequel, but just as a good game on its own) and the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Radiant Dawn has to be my favourite of this bunch - hasn't aged at all. In fact, I think it's aged better now that we know just how bad the series could get with Fates. I really love that it doesn't have pair-up, marriage and time-travel kids and other stupid mechanics like many of the 3ds games did. I'm so glad Shadows of Valentia and Three Houses went back to form.

What about Tales of Graces and Super Robot Taisen Neo? Although maybe they have the handicap of not knowing japanese

I know this was wii ware so it wasn't allowed but I like the FF my life as king game a lot, the spin my life as a darklord was ok as well but not as good as the first one

I'd like to know more of why your just not that into MH series. Didn't really say anything in the video as to why. Maybe another video? It's a hard series to get into for sure with a deffo steep learning curve. Did you try the new monster hunter on ps4? It's wayyyyyyy more beginner friendly, easiest in the series. Plus it's had years of updates. Well worth checking out. Cheap now too 😊

@@salsamonkey65 Ironically MH3U,MH4U and MHG thrived on the 3DS. Even though they had online. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate which was cross-platform with Wii U and 3DS on message boards on game facts like back in 2012 2013 there was even a big divide in the fan base because apparently Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate players on the Wii U which constantly had online allegedly "didn't know how to play the game". Although I will admit that the 3DS players were kind of right. I couldn't imagine doing some of those hunt single-player especially when you consider that Monster Hunter 3 is the one with the infamous underwater segments and the 3DS back in 2012 and the new 3DS didn't exist in the circle pad Pro was a rare thing so these people were doing this one analog stick. Same goes with the monster hunter games on the PSP people who have learned to use the single analog stick and a d-pad for camera control on the same side at the same are the real deal.

Tales of Symphonia Dawn of a New World was my personal favorite, but the ps3 version is better. Besides that I would have to chose Xenoblade Chronicles.

There is an undub too if you are playing it on emulator or a modded console

Good video! I still need to beat Arc Rise Fantasia...I kept dying and just gave up. The voice acting is horrid and you lose all the coolest characters and are left with the crappy ones, lol!

You know you can turn the voice acting off in settings, right? I did that immediately, since I was warned about the voice acting by Erick’s video.
