I once saw some philly fans curb stomping one of those musicians outside after the game. I just remember on of the guys hurling his saxophone across the parking lot. Funniest moment in my Philly sports fan career.

Fun Fact: the penguins used to have a real penguin be the mascot when they became a team, but they got a South African penguin who wasn’t used to being on ice so he died of frostbite. The penguins stuffed him but then he got stolen out of civic arena 🐧

Here’s a backstory on why Carolina’s mascot is a pig/hog. The site the arena was constructed on was once a pig farm and a large investor in the arena was a gazilionaire pig farmer. North Carolina is also the second largest state in terms of hogs only behind Iowa. North Carolina is also famous for its Barbecue which is pork based. In addition to this, just a year prior to the whalers relocating in NC, Hurricane Fran hit North Carolina very hard and when you turned on the TV, you would see pig carcasses floating in the water everywhere. The original Stormy looked much more like a pig and was more fierce but many children and parents said he was “too scary” and the head was simply too large with little sight allowed. Overtime, they reshaped the head and made him look more friendly

Polar bears are absolutely the most deadly. There is a saying for bears, "If its black, attack, if its brown, get down, if its white, good night." Basically means, black bears are docile enough that you can scare them away with a yell, if you want to survive a brown grizzly, you gotta play dead, and if you see a polar bear stalking you, you can't do shit to stop it, you're pretty much toast.

We have our bad moments (as do most fan bases) because idiots decide to throw bracelets on the ice but when it comes to overall support, loyalty, and tenacity, Philly wins all the way and Gritty is the perfect representative of that.

the live mascot I think you guys are referring to for the Hurricanes (Hamilton the Pig) is essentially just a **very** highly recognized fan and is just well known/loved within the fan base, not really our mascot. Stormy is our mascot because pork/bbq is such a staple in the Carolinas!

Storm for the Canes is an Ice Hog, kind of a play on ‘puck hog’ and reference to the large number of hog farmers in NC. Hamilton the hog is the pet of a Canes fan, not a “live mascot”

Disagree with Stormy. The reason the "ice hog" is a thing is bc PNC Arena was built on old hog farms. Originally, the farmer(s) tried to get the team to be named the ice hogs, but they settled on the mascot. I think that is an S-tier reasoning for him being a mascot
