Arifumi Imai is so talented. His style in AOT is so distinct as well, it's totally obvious when he's behind a scene. I was sad to see he didn't make a comeback for season 4 but seeing his work on Ousama Ranking made me feel better.

Wit goes from best to worst: S1 > S2 > S3P1 > S3P2, while Mappa improve as time goes on. Who knows if Wit does S4 it might actually looks worse than Mappa’s result if we judging by this trend (especially on composition, with their worst compo ever of S3P2).

I do believe wit's work for season 4 would be significantly inferior, the amount of non action in s4 pt 1 can't be handled well by wit and they would not be able to handle the sheer scale of part 2 imo

Now that ya boy is back into anime, I'm glad to have found someone who knows so much about animation and animators and isn't afraid to geek over it. Agree with this ranking so much and will be binging some of your other videos and hopefully taking some recommendations. Imai is already a name I won't forget any time soon.

Man I am waiting for JJK animation is not that good video , I want to know more in details about why JJK anime composition was terrible in many action sequences. I hope Mappa doesn't fuck up composition in the upcoming Chainsaw man anime. Also I wanted to ask that do you anything about the Pluto anime ? Is it cancelled ? Also what happened to M2 studio? There is no news about Masao Maruyama or his upcoming passion project , I really had high hopes for Pluto 😢.

Soon man, soon, I doubt the jjk problems will also happen in chainsawman as they have got Takeda yuusuke as the art director and he is one of the most experienced people in the industry, as for the pluto anime I believe masao confirmed its still happening earlier this year.

You could tell by the end of season 3 that WIT started to really cut corners. There were still amazing looking moments like some parts of the fighting, the argument about Erwin and Armin was great and the whole beach scene in the last episode is just straight up gorgeous. But for most of it the quality was subpar. That blue filter on Shiganshina was terrible. Eren vs Reiner round 2 is unfortunately the worst looking fight in the series (including Mappa's). My biggest issue with season 2 that I didn't see you mention was the overuse of still frames with action lines in the second part of the season. I swear in the last 4 episodes there was one every two minutes. WIT just could not do season 4 justice, that's why they gave it up. Mappa tried its best with what they had and somehow it turned out actually decent. Whithout MAPPA we wouldn't even have a final season, or it would have turned out much worse if any other studio picked it up with the same deadlines. And yet people somehow still think WIT would have done a better job.

WIT gave it up because they didn't have time to make the next season. Not because they didn't want to do it. A lot of the staff wanted to work on it but couldn't because the committee got greedy and forced a short release cycle. Also, no. Mappa is not the reason we have a final season, if no studio picked it up, we'd still have a Season 4 because the committee would be forced to give a better time schedule. We legit have no clue how good WIT would've done, using Season 3 (which had a tighter schedule than Season 4) as proof that WIT would've done bad is not sufficient. There is a high chance that if Mappa never picked up the anime, the committee would've given WIT more time to make season 4.

​@@lucaswarriorteammining5786it's not just that, wit earnt very less money. The producers sucked all the profit and gave 150k usd each ep to wit who has about 35 animators. Now the thing is, they would takes months to finally get their 150k so they barely earnt anything. I can bet that they earnt more for kabaneri of the iron fortress than they earned from aot and vinland saga combined as wit was the animator and the producer. You are correct Kodansha would have to make a better schedule but let's say wit took it, do u actually think that wit will take 3 years to animate it fully? Cuz they took 4yrs for season 2 so it's just obvious they'd take about 6-7 yrs to make 16+11+3+4= 34 episodes with most action in a season of aot. They can also make parts so they would take around 3 and half years to create 17 episodes. It's realistic but it'd take way too long for them to give that season 2 quality. And if I have to be honest I'm not willing to wait 7yrs for an avg ending on top of all this. And mappa right now is doing great with aot, part 2 I had no complaints, part 3 cour 1 was even better and I assume cour 2 will be probably best animation of whole of attack on titan.

And if by some miracle no studio took it Kodansha would not have given it back to WIT to take as much time as they wanted. The biggest reason AoT Season 4 was given the deadline of releasing in 2021 was because the Manga was ending. And they wanted to boost the Manga Sales through the Anime. And if they couldn't have gotten an Anime out by then they probably would have shelved it. Think about it logically. If the same production company didn't give WIT 2 to 3 Years between Seasons 2 to Season 3 Part 2. Why would they now suddenly give WiT 2 to 3 years to make a new season.

@@madmouse4400 The only episodes that were rough were s3 ep 14,15 and 16. Other than that the season looked Solid. Especially s3 ep 13, 17, 18 and 22. Also character designs remained consistent through the whole season. Something mappa still struggles to get right even with more time in s4 p2.

@@mbh7798 I would honestly say he wasn't harsh enough s3p2 had Less episodes and honestly a better episode to creation ratio than mappa mappa had to make so much for s4p1 like new character design sheets and even supposedly cut 2d shifters which were later used for the model creation over all altho I agree s3 p2 wasn't bad the odds were in it's favour to look better but it didn't

@@mbh7798 like he said , the s3p2 had an horrible focus on certain colors: Green and grey/blue . It was unappealing to look at especially in comparison to what the series gave us up to that point . Reiner titan didn't move a lot. It was so undynamic with all of these still frames and a bit confusing with all those close up . No previous titan fight was ever as bad as this , even against normal titan.

@@madmouse4400 I feel like the compositing part was more of a nitpick. Mappa had the same issues even in the later parts. The whole shiganshina fight had a filter that made everything look yellow. Then when the rumbling started, literally everything was red and not much contrast. So yh it’s a matter of opinion. I do agree, the fight was not good. The only part that looked decent was the MMA tussle they had just before Eren pushed Reiner off. But yh the whole hand to hand fight wasn’t great.

Why don't you analysis the animation of the fate series. I believe it has some of the best animation anime has to offer

actually i see s4 part1 amazing considering everything in s1 there was only four shifters and we never get to see two in the same screen till much later in the season and to be honest the style is more way simpilar than mappa one like just grab any close up shot from s1 and compare it to s4 and you will see the diffrence also the story changed a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT back then having a titan vs titan was the coolest thing we could ever got now it become casual seeing eren marching towards three fucking chifters and an entire military also they had only 8 months to make animate the 16 episodes of fucking madness so yeah thats the truth also s3part2 is actually normal (not good but not bad) can't blame them for not animating a gigantic human anatomy

@@santoshraj5969(sorry for my bad english) well you have to blame kondansha and production committee for that. Not The studio itself. Mappa wanted more time for AOT but they got rejected. Like look at their other projects like CSM where there is no production committee and Mappa is producing CSM themselves. That means they have control over time schedule and budget (budget is not that important). They have a very fair good schedule. They opened a New studio just for CSM. They created a Comfortble environment for animators and new animators and freelancers they wanted to hire as The director said. They have vacation time for animators. The CSM staff is getting more pay than kyoani and ghibli studio. It,s not high but it,s better than almost 90 or 95 percent of the Japanese anime studios. And they have a good environment to work at.

I get the yellow tint, but the red look is a positive, it gives off that doomsday feel, and guess what? It is doomsday, part 2 features some of the best 3d work, especially with the rumbling, the best cut of character acting that aot has ever seen (by a mile and a half) multiple odm gear scenes, compared to that season 3 massively lacked in any department that didn't have arifumi imai in it, and imai did very little for s3 (like, 5 sequences total for both parts I think)

I disagree strongly wıth your ranking, I think you have overlooked many aspects but as I see it: Season2 Season1 Season3 Season 4 part 2 Season 4 part 1 Season 4 had much more inconsistencies, the dumb titans looked awful and not menacing at all, the CGI is ugly and moves ugly even when they were drawn well. The color palates oh my God, lifeless backgrounds, the action sequences were clunky and when they tried making them look smooth at the animation had to pay the toll. Even the well made first movie of season 4 part 3 is worse than all the Wit seasons.

You’re a novice and have little to no understanding of what a good adaptation is, you barked about the cgi and didn’t once touch base on the direction 💀 season 4 of aot has some of the best story board across all of anime, shunning that because you’re hurt over cgi models is ridiculous. This is my view. Mappa just does not capture what made Attack on Titan unique. It's stiff, fails compared to the manga and feels like a more rushed job than Season 3, which is by far one of the more rushed seasons but people give pity points to Mappa. Sesaon 3 Part 2 at most, had 6 months of animation allocated to it. Yet it contains amazing cuts, is consistent visually (besides the colossal, which appears for less than 3 minutes for the entire season) and is the most memorable season. If Mappa didn't pick up AOT, there is a strong chance the committee would've realized that they time schedule was too slim and would've expanded it so WIT could've made it.
