I bought a 68 plate Sport (mint) as a retirement present to myself with 80k on the clock for £30k. I had a MAJOR service which cost £2k and replaced all the tyres. I only intend to do about 2500 miles per annum, so what I spend on Insurance(£1200), I will save on fuel. Bought a Farraday pouch and a steering lock (£150 combined). Not worried about depreciation as this will see me out. I have a £500 Slush Fund set aside for any future issues and looking forward to pulling into my Golf Club with the car of my dreams. You only live once!

Depreciation is not bad really. Have a look at something like the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 or Mercedes S Class. I saw a 3 year old A8 at an Audi dealer with 34k miles for £35,500. This car was £85k when new 3 years ago. A 3 year old RR Sport with similar miles is £40k, but it was £71,500 new. A lot less depreciation

I own a 2015 L405, I'm 43, clean license, 10 years no claims bonus etc etc, I live in rural Lincolnshire. I'm not aware of any major local car thefts yet still LR wouldn't even quote me for insurance.......

I would definitely change engine oil sooner than 16,000 miles. More like 10,000 kms! Also, get the transmission serviced, at least at 100,000 kms, and some would suggest even more often. ZF recommend more often. Engine oil becomes diluted with diesel and can lead to bearing failure. Just change the oil every 10,000 kms.

I recently bought a 2011 sport sdv6 on 85k one previous owner fsh. Average 31 mpg. It's old enough that it shouldn't get stolen but I bought a steering wheel bar lock as a deterrent. I have a faraday pouch so it blocks the signal if anyone trys reading it in car park. As for service intervals I'll be changing oil and filter every 6k. If you're buying your first RR then buy from a dealer either main or specialized. There is no such thing as a cheap RR

You can get a good one or bad one as in every make of vehicle....BUT when it's under warranty and you can't get the parts from jlr because it's on back order and even they don't know of the delivery of the parts....I've never had one of my jlr stolen because of one thing in the back window I keep a sign Saying.......BROKEN DOWN!! and leave a dummy set of keys on the seat with door left unlocked.

I am on the 2nd week of ownership of a 2014 4.4 autobiography sport. So far the car is going back with condensation on the rear nr/s lense nr/s heated mirrer not working. An airbag light has come on and is staying on. But the worst thing that has taken the shine of this car is all the scratches and scrap. How the hell i missed it at hand over i don't know very angry at myself. But mostly embarrassed to show the car off. Getting the gear box serviced in 2 weeks atca specialist cost oil filter £526. But i love driving the car.

These problems all sound like issues you should have spotted when purchasing and can't be blamed on the LR brand.

@rangeroverp3846 i am not blaming l r brand i will blame the company that sold me the car as they had it for two weeks b4 i took ownership. Ok heated mirrer maybe we can let that go as it sat in side. Condensation should of been spotted and dealt with. Scratches buffed out or al least make it known.

Sadly there are dodgy dealers out there. When buying one of these machines second hand research is key check the history and check mot records, check the tyres and others service items see if its been well looked after or has been run on a budget. Check the reviews of the dealer and do a car vertical check or other checking service. I’ve brought a car in the past where i was miss sold by the dealer, but i left a review and i will never use z dealer again.

Interestingly all the hype of a London / big city lr theft issue came about, almost exactly when insurance companies put the prices up dramatically for all. I feel they used it as a bit of damage control/ smoke screen. I’ve owned a few range rovers only had one bad egg witch i still enjoyed it even though i only had that one for a short while. I am using a gap car at the moment and am going to replace it ever with2017+ Range Rover or bmw x5 but am surprised, due originally I wasn’t thinking about going back to Range Rover but have found through my research it’s probably going to be the best suited car for my needs. I thing range rovers get a really bad rep but have found key as mentioned find the best example you can afford and don’t scrimp on the maintenance.

What do you think of the P400e engine? I’m looking at a couple of 2019s for 23-28k and unsure if I should pull the trigger.

I linked it when I drive one, it’s been a while though I know that so I can’t comment specifically, but would depend on your use as to go with the P400e over diesel, that’s a large price difference mate. Just get a “good one” and don’t buy cheap. Load of car for the money either way

I live in north Leicestershire and just renewed my 4 year old for £548. I do have house insurance with the same company that seems to make a difference. Before I received their quote I did try to go in as a new customer just to get an idea what it might be. They wouldn’t quotes me!!

I can’t understand why people spend thousands on a car such as a RR, then park it overnight outside. Surely it’s better to buy a garage with good security before the buying of the car.

I would be curious to know roughly how much a good warranty costs. On a range rover sport similar age and mileage to the one you bought. I love the thought of having one of these cars but the reliability has put me off so far. If I had a good warranty I wouldn't worry.
