Land Rover Values Plummet! Insurance Costs Jump!!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hi All,
I would absolutely love to buy another Land Rover vehicle but these concerns around thefts need to be addressed as values drop. I will be looking for immobilizers that could be the best option, as I am keen to buy back another Range Rover soon.
We are hearing Insurance premiums tripling in cost, some people cannot now insure their car in certain areas!
There are problems with Keyless Go relays from home etc, cutting the wiring at the back of the cars and starting the cars.
If you can share the video it may help Land Rover owners secure their vehicles. I will keep trying to find more info on the situation.
I would love your comments and subscribe to the channel so you don't miss our content in the future.

Very informative, thank you. I personally have never liked Key less go, I managed to spec my last Golf GTI performance pack 2019 without it. I could be wrong, but I think most people would prefer not to have these theft issues if the only down side was an extra 3 seconds to push the door unlock button.

VW keyless entry can be disabled by locking the car with the key button then straight away putting your finger end on the indent on the door handle. This pauses the lock cycle for a second then carries on locking. Then the car can only be opened by pressing the key only.

Keyless Go is the height of laziness. I said years ago in 2002 when looking at a MERCEDES SL55 AMG the manufacturers should put an ON OFF switch on the key fobs. It would have ended the keyless go thefts overnight. Why don't manufacturers put a finger print sensor on cars or face recognition?? That's pretty secure. Tesla have similar tech and don't suffer thefts like JLR do

The principal fact to bear in mind is that car thieves are actually skillless. If you present them with "not what they are expecting," they can not function (because they only know what they've been taught). Fit systems/ features, however simple , change the electrical landscape. Car stays put, and you don't need to spend £500. Back during the car wars years, (so-called) there was some suggestion immobiliser and alarm installers were involved in car crime, I can't comment how true that was, but the fewer people who know your security, the more effective it is.

I contacted 14 insurance companies and only 3 would insure it but the premiums were thousands . I must admit I saw the crash in values on Range Rovers coming so I jumped quick ! I would love to buy another but won’t while thefts are high and they are easy to steal thus uninsurable. I have had 17 Range Rovers since my first in 1988. Being in the autumn of my life I can’t see me owning another . Very sad , come on JLR step in and resolve your car security issues . Customers will still buy If you scrap keyless go ! Problem is once ghost ubiquitous and the supply of nicked cars drops off, the thieves will spend time and resources on getting round it! Many of these vehicles are taken by organised gangs that, given the money involved, really do have substantial resources, they have access to technical people that will work for the highest bidder... The Ghost system will eventually be cracked, and then it'll be open season again. It's really down to the manufacturers to take security properly seriously... It never ceases to amaze me how many people put convenience over security, and they only learn the lesson the hard way. It certainly limits the vehicles and products that I'll lay money down for, but then I've never had a car stolen nor have I ever had my bank accounts compromised. It’s a press button door open one not completely keyless and my keys are always kept inside a metal box at home. I live in (NI) where we do not have a high car theft crime rate ( mainly because caught stealing a car and you will end up in hospital) but since getting new insurance my rate has tripled. So yes it has a little to do with the number stolen but more to do with insurance companies jumping on the bandwagon to hike their rates… probably the cheapest way to get a Range Rover and spend less on household costs is fly to Africa where most of the stolen ones end up in, drive it home then get a large dinghy to bring it over the channel, dump your passport into the sea and claim asylum. Back in the mid 1960's I was a police officer in Lancashire and was at a station that bordered the Manchester City area. Even back then it was not unusual for the 24 hours leading up to Christmas day to have close on one hundred vehicles stolen. Any week of the year Manchester City Police had scores of cars stolen usually for what we termed joy riding i.e. drive around in it until they got bored then dump it or steal a car to get home from the clubs.

I work about a mile from the Solihull factory, and most of the people who work there wouldn't recommend anybody to buy them! I know someone senior at JLR who gets a new company vehicle every year or so. The last one he had broke down twice in the first few months and stranded him, the second time it cut out dead in the fast lane of the motorway, didn't even go into limp mode, just stopped. Luckily he managed to coast over to the hard shoulder. I recently drove past the back entrance to the factory and saw a Discovery towing a trailer with another Discovery on it. I thought 'what a good idea, tow a spare one so you can swap to that one when the one you're driving breaks down, which it probably will'. 😆. They're beautiful cars, but until they can actually make them reliable so people are less tempted to steal them to break for spares I'll stick to my Audis.

There is only one way to describe this situation and it is simple! It’s unbelievable complacency for a prestigious name brand. I think if there are not careful they could possibly end up close shop. Who wants to buy a vehicle you can’t insure or lose a lot of money very quickly? Or you drive from point A- B and in between that journey it gets stolen. As my mate Clint Eastwood would say with the finger on the trigger, are you feeling lucky?

One of my friends used to work at JLR for 40+ years was a senior manager there. Has two cars as part of his retirement package. On his car he has a steering lock disk cover. Plus he knows everything about these cars and how you should lock them. What should JLR do? I would get some of the guys and gals from Munro Associates to come over to the UK and show them how Tesla cover the cars in cameras and the computer management system which records everything and how JRL could join the future rather than remain in the past. I am told hardly any Tesla's are stolen - must be they have better security. This has been a problem for years for JLR and they are moving at a glacial pace to fix it.

This theft issue has a simple solution: First of all, JLR are perfectly aware of how these cars are being stolen. JLR can ask electronic module manufacturers in Taiwan, Japan, USA, Germany etc to come up with a redesigned ignition module that cannot be easily copied and offer a brand new pair of keys to their customers and charge them something like £500 or so and fit them at their own site for them. When mass produced the modules will cost less than £50 and keys are not expensive either. Just give customers appointments for one hour and replace them. It creates jobs for JLR as well.

I have a ghost immobiliser on my BMW. If you get dragged out of the car at a traffic stop (car jacked) with the engine running, the system allows the thief to drive no more than a few hundred yards before the engine cuts out. This allows a safe distance between you and the thief. Also if the car is parked outside your house and a thief tries to steal it the system will allow the car to start but the engine will cut out when a gear is selected (automatic gearbox.) You can change which four buttons in your car deactivate the ghost whenever you want for extra security and even disengage the system altogether when taking your car to the garage to have work done as this can be very annoying for the mechanic. Hope this helps. 🤘

In the late 2000s and early 2010s the only way to steal a car was to steal the keys through burgulary or mugging someone in the street.

The biggest problem with JLR vehicles is that the management there are totally inept. The vehicles have a reputation for problematic electrics and steering rack failures, so what have they done about it?....nothing is the answer.... A lot of customers are waiting more than 6 months for replacement steering racks because there are so many failures, and now there's a massive problem with obtaining spare parts in general because they have opened a new P&A depot and it's in chaos because of part shortages and computer issues so I've read... I also read that there are 10,000 JLR customers waiting for their vehicles to be fixed under warranty because of the failure of management to get a grip with quality and parts shortages...and now this massive problem of theft because the anti theft devices on the vehicles isn't good enough.I have an SVR Jaguar and it's a Great vehicle but there's always a worry that it might get stolen and also if it goes wrong then I could be without it for a long time waiting to get it fixed.

Quite funny when you go around the 2nd industrial city in Sharjah, you see intermodals being opened up with L405’s SVR etc, right hand drive, no guessing where they come from. Stripped out and then sent to Africa, UK customs must be well and truly bent in letting this leave.

Why should i have to payout for Land rovers problem, I paid £66000 for my car April this year my insurance has gone from £650 to £1450, and now face paying more to stop it being nicked. Plus any messing with the car will null an void the warranty, I did get tracker for one year but that won't stop the nicker's. My car was valued at £43000 ,if any one thinks I would let it go for that price is living in cloud coco land.£23000 is some drop on a new car . hopefully land rover will give us the correct price if they want to stay in business.

Ive had a ghost fitted on an rs6. Insurance company insisted on it because it wasnt being kept in garage. They insurer seemed to be confident with them. They are a small bit if kit so would tske someone time to find where in the car its hidden.

I can't imagine why anyone would want a money pit, like a Rang River, they obviously have a lot more money than sense. ( in my humble opinion )
