Randy Rhoads Licks Lesson | The ICONIC Ones

Музыка

In this video, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Randy Rhoads licks. In my opinion, these are the 'need to know' ones plucked from various different songs to help you soak up some of Randy's flare and style. I could have put so many more licks in here but the video would have been too long.

Sorry guys I just noticed at 11:49 refer to a note in the chord as a 6th interval, it was actually a major third. Failed to spot my mistake in the edit. Enjoy the video. Cam

@@crash3711I referred to the Knight in chess because you're going down a string and up a fret. An 'L' shape of sorts but to be fair, a bishop would be more accurate. Not really sure why I didn't mention it to be honest.

The thing about Randy Rhoads is he knew all the chords and all the scales and phrasing and it’s amazing to just sit back and crank it up and enjoy but you make it seem so easy your understanding and skills come out in not only your playing but as the teacher

That was one of the key differences between RR and EVHs playing imo. EVH learned sitting on the edge of his bed noodling/experimenting and doing EVERYTHING he was told not to. RR, on the other hand was classically trained for years and melded what he learned with metal. I believe RR would win a dual because he could fall back on his training. RR was probably more versatile in that sense. I've heard EVH couldn't read music, but I don't know if that's true or not.

Randy didn’t seem very random in his playing style but very deliberate in his playing, crafting entire solos from beginning to end. A solo guitar part or melody you could hum all day long.

yep, as opposed to all the others, who did one off, wing it solos in the recording studios every time. Bcs he knew music, and dint just learn by moving his fingers along the neck in tandem with the pick. A major reason his phrasing sounds so much - SO MUCH more musical than all the others. All the others. He's the prototype superior guitarist, in every way.@@CameronCooper

Many thanks Cameron. Not only are you a great guitarist but you are a cool bloke as well to take the time to teach us all these classic rock licks. Wish you were my guitar teacher when I taking lessons in the early 80's. The guy I used to take lessons charged $5 for 30 minute lessons which actually consisted of him teaching for 5 minutes then 25 minutes of him stepping outside to smoke a butt and drink coffee while I messed around with his guitar rig and pedals. Cheers mate....long live the spirits of Randy Rhoades and Edward Van Halen.
