Given the way managers now handle pitching staffs, 10 years after Randy Johnson won his 300th game, he may be the last man ever to reach this milestone. The current active leader in wins is CC Sabathia, with 249, and he’s retiring at the end of this season. The only other active pitcher who even has 200 wins is Justin Verlander, with 213, and he’s 36 years old. The leader among pitchers not yet 30 is Madison Bumgarner, and he’s only got 113, and may be done as an ace.

Despite losing a season to injury, Verlander seems to be having a second wind in his career. He is now at 241. If Verlander wins as many games in his 40s (he's 39 now) as Randy did, he would make it to 314 wins plus the rest of this year. He has a shot at it for sure
