Another good video. Thanks. I knew the first 4 . 5. However, in my experience water from Cuenca south is potable. Most people don't buy water unless they want to keep it in case of shortages 6 & 8 I believe have more to do with age. Older and/or more professional people are less likely to fist bump and more likely to use proper punctuation. 9 I didn't know that one could ask for more salad and less (or no) rice. Good to know. 10. I've never been charged to use a bathroom, though I have always tipped in any place with a bathroom attendant.

Appreciate your feedback Diana! Cuenca does seem to be the main exception to the whole drinking water situation and I really want to try it out for myself. I think it’s not just age but situation that determines if a person will or won’t do the fist bump, definitely not very common to see someone do it in a professional setting but the other day I saw some older guys happily fist bumping at the park. Hi Ace. Wonderful Video. Thanks. You worked in your dads restaurant and others (I prosume) and I have been told not to eat the salad that the vegetables havent been washed properly and thats where you can get sick. Is that TRUE or FALSE ? Reason I'm asking is I'm a big salad eater in USA and would love more salad. Also, is there ever a choice of brown rice or white rice ? Fist bumps became popular in USA w Covid and have stayed as a more hygenic way to greet. "bring our own cup...." have to remember that one :-) Thanks again. Good job. Good editing.Good sound. Always thankful for your comments and support B. Pe.! I think it’s hit or miss when it comes to the washing of vegetables. Since a lot of people buy their vegetables at the market (Mercado) and those vegetables go through a process to get there plus just the fact that they’re exposed to the environment could make them not the healthiest IF NOT WASHED. That being said I have 2 experiences in the food industry. With my dad he does make sure the vegetables are washed and what is generally considered here “good quality” since he gets them at the supermarket (there’s a firm belief that they’re better there). Then I had the experience working at KFC in Ecuador and I remember once someone had dropped something on the floor (in the kitchen where we prepared the food) and we were told to use it anyways, not very sanitary right? So basically I wouldn’t put all my faith in fast food salads but I would trust restaurants a little more. And unfortunately it’s always white rice, I’ve never heard of anyplace offering an alternative UNLESS they’re already a place that offers healthy meals, in that case you wouldn’t even have to ask I’m sure it comes with it. And definitely carry around at least a bottle or ask for a cup, I just carry my own bottle because I don’t drink so I like to have my own water. And I actually use the tripod Don gave me to be able to record in the living room now, it’s really great since I have a nicer space and better lighting. I can even contemplate the option to go out and record in other places by myself now (safe places of course) so I’m really grateful for it! Brian Tyler Cohen podcast or utube (whatver you call it) has started a NEW SPANISH version. For spanish speakers this is huge, if they want to follow whats going on in US .....the fight for democracy....going on...... Title of english link is his name. I believe followed by espanol but not sure.... (thats it or close) pass on, for those of interest. Brian is great. He takes his info very serious.

I spoke both plus English when I was young but I would put all three languages into one sentence 😂

hey man, I've heard similar conversations in Colombia, in Medellin (Antioquia) tell me the Paisa accent is the purest Spanish, Rolo's (Bogota) told me the same, and Costeños, the same. In Colombia there are different common expressions used that even if yoyu are accent challenged clearly identify where you are from. 1. I knew the 2 languages. Knew about whatsapp, 3 knew about the bathrooms. pretty much the same as other counntries on charging for using the toilets. Why I always carry a lot of tissue with me. (that, and allergies= lol

How’s it going Robert! Ohh I didn’t know that Paisa was the purest. Here you tend to hear a lot about how the accent in other parts of latin America aren’t as good as the ones here. Like if you’re from the coast you’ll hear everyone say the coastal Spanish accent is the best and in the highlands they’ll argue that the Serrano Spanish accent is the best. It all feels like a big competition so I don’t know who to believe lol You know the tissues thing reminded me that here it’s very uncommon for people to have tissues. I’ve seen people carry around napkins and when someone is sick I’ve even seen them carry around a small towel but almost never napkins. Thanks for watching!! 👏🏼

Great video Ace...I didn't know I may have to pay someone for access to a public washroom or for toilet paper. I wouldn't mind paying if the washroom is spotless and the toilet paper is 3ply lol. I wonder what you get for $5.

I’ve never risked needing to use the bathroom while on a trip so not sure the quality of the paper and I’m hoping I don’t jinx it with this comment (🥲). I was not aware of glass sharing, high five/fist bump, salad substitution or charging for the restroom at bus stations. Even at .35 I think I would just pay up. Seems more sanitary that way. And that brings up a question. Is it only done at bus stations or are there other places as well?

Glad my video provided you with some new knowledge! I felt the salad one had to be said because I know not everyone is a fan of rice. And you know, that’s a good question. I do remember being charged for the bathroom at a place that wasn’t the bus station/stop but I can’t remember where, but it’s definitely not in all places. What I will say, related to bathroom use, is that people will not let you use the bathroom at most if not all restaurants/stores (places in general) if you haven’t bought anything. In Ecuador, when someone uses the period at the end of the phrase that means the person has an issue with me and is mad at me for any reason, If it doesn't end in period the person is alright with you and is not mad, but we should use the period more often.

Awesome video as always Ace :D... 2:35 I would definitely say most Ecuadorians buy bottled water, but from what ive seen in the Sierras its much more commen to see people just drink from the tap or boil the water then drink it. The water in some areas in the sierras smells like it has more chlorine then the water I use to drink back in the States. Ive lived in Ecuador for about a total of 2 years now, and have yet to buy a botellon..... But if you live in the Coast or the Jungle, DO NOT drink the tap water, I think everyone here agrees with that

Really appreciate your feedback Justin! 💯 Definitely over here in the coast people avoid it a lot, but I had heard that even in the highlands it wasn’t a thing, only mainly in Cuenca people drink it because it’s cleaner. What I have seen/heard is boiling water to cook, and to shower with when there’s no hot water lol Btw, is the water good? I know it’s a weird question since water doesn’t generally have a taste (well there is some but not frequently) but I tried some filtered water here the other day and it was definitely NOT good. @@GMAceM yep, boiling water will kill off any parasites and harmful bacteria (water can still be contaminated by chemicals though). The taste of the tap water depends on the city and area, but generally it's got a good taste 👍🙂

Also, the toilet paper is posted at the entrance to the bathroom 😂

Hello! I don’t remember if I mentioned this but I did mention in my cost of living video that if you want (because it is optional) the “seguro del IESS” you can pay a percentage of your salary (in the case of those who are retired their pension) to have it.

I just saw this comment but honestly it’s almost the same in terms of their replacement. You order a bidón and someone will come and take the empty one and bring you a new one. We tend to do 5 at a time so we don’t ever run out of water. The alternative which is bottles of water or gütig would end up being much too expensive in the long run, even though I personally love güitig

Not only periods. No punctuation at all. It's terrible because you don't know the actual meaning of the words.

It can be quite tough sometimes, you really just have to get used to it or constantly ask for an explanation to avoid misunderstanding. It’s actually a lot more common among all ages ranges than you’d expect. I was pretty surprised to see two older guys at the park greeting each other like that after it looked like they hadn’t seen each other for a while. That being said, maybe I just have had those coincidental encounters lol

JD fist bump is very common and appreciated in US. Covid is still off and on roaring around/respitory nasty currently. Fist bump is (lets hope onlly temporary.....) the hand shak e or hug. ....a kind heartfelt ggesture in the states.
