Rancher 350 valve adjustment

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a valve adjustment on a early 2000 model Honda Rancher 350. This would be the same process for the later model 350 Ranchers as well.
The valve clearance and the same for the intake and exhaust and should be .006 inches or 0.15 mm.

I wish I would’ve come across your videos earlier on during my 06 TRX350FM repair, my bike started losing top end power at the end of NC Deer season which was new year’s day. I started tearing the bike down back in February and am still slowly getting her back together, carb rebuild, ending up with me replacing it with a NOS carb, replacement of all the vacuum lines and fuel hose, replacing all of the gas tank valves and petcock, adjusting the valves, and lastly will be removing the silen exhaust baffle that I believe was the beginning of my problems in the first place. I’m very much and will hopeful that I’ll be able to ride again when NC Rifle begins in middle October. I’d been watching a variety of videos while freshening and replacing parts, mostly partzilla, I wanted to comment about how detailed your instructions were, your very much appreciated Mr, 4Wheeler Doctor, you filled in the information gaps regarding how to adjust the valves. I found it humorous that prior to getting to the valve adjustment that I actually did replace the entire pullstart cover, it was a minor PITA at the time as you stated having to use 1/4” drive and most of the bolts on the cover being difficult to access. In the grand scheme it obviously made this job that much easier. The way that you zoomed into the show the tick marks on the crank for top stroke was great, your instructions left all doubt behind. Just wanted to say I’m a 100% combat disabled veteran who has probably forgotten more about mechanics and working with tools than I remember these days, guys coming home changed from

Your patience is AMAZING!!! If I was doing this video, it would have turned into a profanity laced "R" rated video within the first five minutes!!! LOL!!! So, how can you tell when this job absolutely needs to get done?? I'm asking because I'm not in a big hurry to adjust the valves on my 300 Fourtraxx. Thanks again for your great videos!!!!

after I adjusted the valves startup sounded great, a short test run was great but after a longer run time when engine was warmed up the valves became noisier than before they were adjusted. adjusted them again after engine cooled down and the same thing happened when the engine warmed up. wondering what the issue is?

Manual says torque the valve cover bolts to 25 ft-lbs. no way that’s right, IMO. I’ve broken at least four off trying to reach that torque. Your opinion on torque value?

  • @FourwheelerDoctor

That 25 is probably for the holder bolt it's called which is down in the head. The valve cover bolts are only about 7 ft pounds my torque wrench is in Newton meter so I use about 10 newton meters. They really just need to be snowed down. 7 ft pound is not very tight

The pull cord was rusted solid. It wasn't compression that I couldn't over come it was the rust on the pull mechanism.
