Competitive team sorting is hard to do! It’s a blast, and I think both the horses and the riders enjoy it. In fact, the horses really get into it, once they understand what’s expected. However, there are about 1000 different kinds of mistakes that you can make while sorting that many calves in such a short period of time. So it is endlessly challenging, even when you’re working with another rider that you know . At lots of competitions, you end up pairing up with a rider you’ve just met, which makes it all the more fun and challenging at the same time. Thank you for sharing this. I could watch it all day!

Enjoyed it. Ranch Sorting is my thing too. A lot of fun...can be frustrating, but still fun. Working the gate is harder than people think.

That was exciting. Sleep well. Personally, I prefer watching the more relaxed approach, and the horses and cows probably prefer relaxed. ❤️

Absolutely love ranch sorting!!! So much fun!!! Shocked a lot of people rollin in with Arabians to do that!!! Blew them away!!! So proud of my Arabs!!!

Sorting was interesting...a little cutting.....driving and all while being timed! Had never seen it before. Nice to see Hensen jumping in and giving it a go! Getting horses that he trains out and about is good! The barrel racing, too, is a great way to show what your horses and training are all about!

I would really love to see Henson train and ride a cutting horse !!!

20:32...I was waiting for this to come up. Almost anyone I know who pushes cows, besides on the weekend in an arena, says the same thing about sorting. There is no clock when moving cows out in the pasture.

Thank you, that was fun! I think Henson did a great job for first time, young horse and not knowing his partners. I think I would rather rotate cattle than being the one to go into the herd after each cow. Great Job!

Best video on sorting that I have seen yet. I think you did great. I am sure if you wanted to pursue this, you would be a star. I have thought about trying it. You showed me that this could be done without a lot of hollering, although it looked like the winners did the most hollering. Just kidding.

sorting looked like fun although I couldn't handle being yelled at with orders on what to do, each to their own, I wont ever get the opportunity to have a go, glad Henson had fun.

This was fun to watch Henson do something out of the ranch☺ I manage a private barn and my boss has 3 quarters that she does sorting on. In the winter she takes them to Florida and sorts all winter down there and brings the boys back home to Michigan in the spring.

Back in the 90s we called that penning down here in Texas . Great fun

They can take turns, usually the more experienced rider and horse stays back at the gate

You did very well on a 3 yr old your first time and first time for the horses

OMG I've seen this, something like this, before when visiting my nephew on a massive ranch in australia, they called it Camp Drafting and go crazy for it there. Though they definitely do it a lot slicker, with no hollering. Those Aussie Stockhorses don't have the muscles of our Quarter Horses but they sure are darn cowie and work those cattle well. Good on Henson for trying something Aussie put another shrimp on the barbie mate.

It looks similar to the cutting events. I like the team event when they switch who does the cutting and blocking the hole.

Danielle, you need to try Ranch Sorting as well. Fair warning...it is a drug, YOU WILL GET ADDICTED! Henson is true evidence of that. I've been doing this and team penning for about 24 years and I still have so much fun at it. Both my wife and I compete in it. Henson did great for the 1st time. We do it during the winter down in the valley when we come down for the winter. We attended the event produced by the same folks as your show in Queen Creek last December at Horseshoe Park. You are correct...they are long days. I think there is a show or two in Prescott as well sometime in the year. Get in touch with me if you want to come down to the valley this winter, we can team up.

We live in Montana 8 months out of the year and stay near Buckeye, AZ the other 4 months. We've sorted with the gal on the big gray horse in the video at about the 16:26 minute mark. @@PaintedDesertRanch

I’ve seen the ranch sorting at the Oklahoma’s cattlemen association ranch rodeo and it looks like fun. Think Henson needs to try out the wild cow milking if they ever have something like that out there.

Practice practice that’s not bad for a first time. My cousin done barrels back in the day man that horse was a trip she’d wet all over . She slid down an he rolled off then he got back on before she got up.

Maybe Henson & Jasper could practice the round Robin in their “spare time” if they ever have any. He could add more training to his repertoire 😀

I enjoyed it. Henson looked like he was in his element. Maybe next time take a better horse.. Why did that horse buck the rider off? Glad he was ok. Let's do it again. Fun.
