native German here! the song is basically about the working class who spent night & day in the mines. they are hoping to see the sun again and count the seconds until they see it. that would be the literal interpretation. alternative meaning could be: someone suffering from depression / chronic illness who almost lost all hope. the person tries to stay strong and dreams of better days in the future.

To me, a German, it is truly heartwarming to see all the people in the comment section learning some of my language through Rammstein.

A professional fighter asked Rammstein if they would write a song for him personally to use on his entrance music to his next big fight and this song was what they made for him!🔥🔥 Crazy part is the guy bailed out for whatever reason and didn't even want to use it. In Germany, Till's rolling of his Rs has proven to be quite controversial, as Hitler also rolled his Rs. But Hitler was born in Austria and so spoke a dialect of German in which the R is rolled. Till is from Saxony, so maybe his dialect also rolls the R due to the Saxon influence - in Old English (spoken by the Anglo-Saxons in what is now England and Southeast Scotland), the R was also rolled (although in modern English the R is obviously generally not rolled).

Some other Germanic languages like Icelandic and some dialects of Scandinavian languages roll their Rs very heavily. I think it just makes the music sound cooler and more aggressive when used in a metal context.

Honestly what I love about this song is that it’s so vague and poetic, you can basically put any meaning you want. I know technically it was originally for a kickboxer, but this song could be interpreted in so many ways. I’ve heard Snow White, a god, loving an addict, or just the literal sun. I love songs like this

Rammstein is the reason I chose Deutsch over French in school. Their music is spring music for me. I started listening to them when it was spring and now I listen to them every year at that time. Been a fan for 10 years now, seen them live once. They inspired me to make lot of art work about them in high school, and I got perfect grades on every art course, so I want to thank them for that as well. Magnificent band!

I think Sonne means the sun, sol, therefore it has something to do with the sun and the light from it, but I might be totally wrong LOL.

native German here! the song is basically about the working class who spent night & day in the mines. they are hoping to see the sun again and count the seconds until they see it. that would be the literal interpretation. alternative meaning could be: someone suffering from depression / chronic illness who almost lost all hope. the person tries to stay strong and dreams of better days in the future. other interpretations are possible though!

Theres an english version of the song "Amerika." I personally dont care much for it. Sounds a little goofy when translated into english to me, but i really appreciate that they did a song in english.
