You’re absolutely right. He dresses like a western gunslinger, uses a legendary explosive revolver, has charisma level 10 quips, survives insane odds, constantly gets sidetracked by new quests and side gigs, and has a dog companion.

Honestly, the 3 protags are all MCs. The Ghoul's a murder hobo, Maximus is a power gamer (making choices just for more power and better gear regardless of morality or consequences), and Lucy is an Int/Cha build roleplay-focused player who tries to talk her way out of everything and do what's right.

That's freakin' awesome! I don't care what anyone says, the writers of this show knew the games by heart and God damn do they do it justice!

The Ghoul is a terrifying presence. He was a combat marine during one of the most brutal wars in his universe. And on top of that, he has been alive for over 200 years. His experience and skills are unmatched

Not to mentioned, Cooper was the OG Vault Boy so he definitely have implemented/use a VATS in his body

I actually never expected this actor who I mostly saw in secondary characters to be the coolest one in the series. Each time he appears is a gift to witness. Walton Goggins sure is hella talented

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that when I first saw the show.

I think what makes this show so good to me is that each character feels so full of, well, character! Even the ones we barely get to know. But this especially rings true with The Ghoul. Every word uttered has some experience behind it, he clearly loves to taunt and have fun with his work -- while still treating it with upmost priority and dedication. And the power he emanates through charisma alone. He's the main character of a whole other story.

That graveyard scene was like something Mel Brooks would do. It was a hilariously over the top parody of Western melodramatic entrances, yet it was so awesome it actually works at playing the trope straight!

The Ghoul is like that character that gives you a "slap of reality" (regardless of being a tv series inspired in a videogame saga) showing you how things are and has the background, experience and skills to prove it

Even though there are three main characters, I feel like The Ghoul is the true focus of the show’s story. He’s clearly the one that’s gone through the most trauma and Season 1 is just the build up to what ultimately may be the tragedy of his character in Season 2? Also the outline of the skull formed by Lucy standing in the Vault Door poster just kind of solidifies this thought for me because of the how The Ghoul’s face is. It feels like it foreshadows the realization of his character. Lucy may be the face of the story, but Cooper is the heart and soul of it. Maximus should deserves a bit more improvement, he’s the only one whose backstory isn’t explored much aside from the Shady Sands disaster.

I mean, he is deeply tied to the lore if you think about it. He fought in a major war against the communist, was married to a valued Vault Tech representative. He knows who dropped and how the bombs dropped or at least has the closest knowledge to it. Has lived for over 200 years in the wasteland so he knows how things operate, all the factions probably most of the areas of the wasteland. And I mean for goodness sake, he's freaking vault boy! Technically, he's been there the whole time, in game and out

imagine if there was the famous outlaws of all time sitting down playing poker... the Mariachi, the Harmonica, the Gunslinger, the Rifleman.... even Cad Bane and Mando.... and in walks The Ghoul. _clink..... clink..... clink...._ "Say... I don' s'ppose you fellas have room for one more?" "Well, this here's a friendly game... me and the boys here, we go way back... and uh, I din't quite catch your name, pal" _Ghoul flicks him a tab... tingg!.... bounces on the pot of chips_ "How say we play to finding that out?" _all at the table chuckle_ "Pull up a chair.... par'dnr" and cue the guitar.

Was thinking how bad ass The Ghoul's theme was and how I should look it up. Lo and behold, the genius of Ramin Djawadi was behind it. Ramin can do no wrong.

I love how distant and echo-ey the yodeling sounds - like the faded memories of the Western hero archetype Cooper used to represent... before he was warped by the cruelty of the wastes and the unrelenting hands of time. He reminded me a lot of the Man In Black from Westworld.
