I'm preparing for GATE Physics and found your video to be exceptionally brilliant to grasp the concept behind modes of vibrations and their subsequent changes in polarizability resulting in Raman active/inactive. Thanks.

Dear Sir, I do have a question and I hope you reply to it. It is known that every molecule in the universe has some rotation or vibration to it. Now, if they are vibrating, then that means that there will be some change in the polarizability. Even though it can be extremely small like in the case of CO2, it still had a little bit of change and hence showed Raman low intensity peaks. In the previous lectures you said that 99% of the time, the photon hits a molecule and elastic collisions occur so its Rayleigh scattering. The Question is, If every molecule is vibrating and having a slight change in the polarizability no matter how small and showing a low intensity Raman peak why did we say that only one in a million molecules will actually show Raman Scattering? What is the criteria? Should not every molecule (as it is vibrating) have some change in the atleast one of their vibration states and hence show raman scattering? Kindly do explain I shall be Grateful. Regards, Zulkifle Ikram.

Thank you so much sir, I have one doubt, that whatever Raman shift spectra is gain, that's for one molecule only ? and we got stokes antistokes and Rayleigh lines, So whatever difference occur in emitted radiation , is this happen at a same time of different vibrational and rotational modes of molecule to generate these three different types of lines?
