A Dodge Ram wandered into an area of very deep tidal mud at 02:00am,
A further two cars had become stuck trying to free it.
I came across them at 12:30pm. The temperature by then had risen to 40°C.
a 2m high tide was indicated for 18:06. We recovered the vehicle well before then.
The Ram was really deep into the mud. We tried winch and snatch recoveries with various straps and bungy ropes.
In the end we added a snatch block to the winch and anchored the winch vehicle to another truck
The snatch block effectively doubles the capacity of the winch. In this case to 25,000 lbs.
It eventually came loose, then had to be winched to firmer ground.
This area of mud claims a lot of vehicles. At certain times of year the surface dries to a crust that looks light in colour and people assume that like other flat light coloured areas, it is firm. It's really, really not.
