8 Reasons Why You Should AVOID The 2024 Ram 1500!!
Thinking of grabbing the latest 2024 Ram 1500 pickup? You might want to hit the brakes and watch this first. Despite its rugged charm and comfort, the Ram Pickup also has some unfortunate shortcomings that might leave you stranded and frustrated on the side of the road. It’s better to be informed than sorry!
No real hybrid options, just mild hybrid
The 2024 Ram 1500 offers 2 engine choices. One is a 3.6-liter V6, making 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque and the other is a 5.7-liter V8 that produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is also equipped with a mild hybrid system that slightly improves fuel economy. The V8 can also come with the same eTorque mild hybrid or without it. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.4 seconds.
Apart from these options, there is also a 702 hp supercharged 6.2 V8 available for the TRX model only. They all use an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends the power to the rear wheels. Four-wheel drive is available as an option on all trims, except the TRX, where it is standard.
They are all decent numbers, but we think that the 2024 Ram should have gotten a full hybrid powertrain option with some really serious worksite power and fuel economy. A mild-hybrid just doesn’t cut it. The Ford F-150 got one, a very versatile and efficient PowerBoost system that combines a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with an electric motor and a battery pack for a combined 430 hp and 570 lb-ft. Good job, Ford!
eTorque System issues
According to Ram owners’ experiences from car forums, it appears the latest Ram pickup trucks have all sorts of issues with their eTorque mild-hybrid system that cause funny or not so funny problems.
There are reports of vehicles shutting their engine off suddenly and applying the parking brake all on their own. The instrument panel would indicate an issue with the mild-hybrid battery not charging.
One specific owner of a 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie complained that the hybrid battery pack failed and the truck went wacko and shut off mid drive, while on their way to school with the children. It took several weeks for the dealership to fix it.
Random engine stalls seem the norm on these Ram 1500 pickup trucks with the eTorque mild-hybrid powertrains. Another owner of a 2023 Ram reported that the car happens to randomly stall in the middle of the road and set the eBrake. This is an ugly thing. If you’re in traffic, you kinda’ have to pray that the car behind stops in time without hitting you.
This stalling behavior often occurs when slowing down to turn at an intersection or enter a parking lot. One owner complained that his Ram truck stalled 10 times in less than 4000 miles.
What’s funny or frustrating, depending on whether you’re a Ram owner or not, is that the eTorque system tends to malfunction when the AC system or the ventilated seats are actively in use. Apparently, it’s not as much a hardware issue, as it’s a software glitch within the eTorque system itself.
Dealerships and service centers recommend always making sure the software is up to date.
It's quite ironic, isn't it? The Ram doesn’t even boast a proper full hybrid powertrain, yet it’s still prone to malfunctions because of it.
Software-related issues are quite common when it comes to the latest generation of the Ram 1500. Owners often complain that the vehicle has the tendency to produce inaccurate readings of the battery voltage.
Other owners had issues with the hazards lights coming on suddenly while driving. It was impossible for them to turn them off without shutting off the vehicle first.
Sometimes, the truck would switch to 2-wheel drive, which is pretty problematic, especially in winter. Owners often complained that they were unable to use the car in 4-wheel drive and had to visit the dealership to get it fixed.
Occasionally, the backup camera would just stay on and you have to shut off the vehicle and start it back up to turn off the backup camera. In the meantime you just cannot use the infotainment screen inside the cabin.
Expensive Infotainment system that glitches
Speaking of infotainment, the basic $41k Ram Tradesman trim comes only with a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and a six-speaker stereo system.

Smoothest suspension out there. Tremendous amount of room and comfort is top notch. This is obviously written by a Ford fan. I wouldn't purchase another truck.

My 2024 ram 1500 etorque is in service now . The truck has 1100 miles on it. Drove it off the lot 3 months ago. It stalled on me once and threw the parking break on and the truck shut down and most recently I pulled onto a state route and the truck stopped speeding up after 40mph as the rpms shot up to 7000. It almost got me into a crash. Never had an issue with my v8 2021 quad cab but this one is just riddled with them.

As an F-150 3.5 EcoBoost owner and a previous 2.7 EcoBoost owner those new twin turbo V6 Rams are going to be a blast I will have to admit though the EcoBoost motors do not have good sound maybe the ram motors will sound better ?? 🤔

I just bought a new Ram 1500 Big Horn a couple of days ago. I wish I would have waited and got another Silverado instead. I don’t like the way it drives or rides after driving it on the highway. The seats are hard and become uncomfortable after about 15 minutes. I feel like I am riding in a wagon. I am going to try and get the dealership to take it back. It’s a good looking truck, but I don’t like the way it drives.

I have been a Dodge owner for years now. And I just test drove the new Dodge with the V6 in it. It's terrible, there's no dipstick to check the oil. I'm done with Dodge. I currently own 3 hemies and a Jeep. And I will never buy another Dodge. Or Chrysler product again, it's sad. That they turned all of their vehicles to electric, and the ones that are not electric are v. Sixes, with no oil dipstick and no way to check anything. This is b******* You have ruined the Dodge brand and p***** off. Many customers that will never buy a Dodge vehicle again. Good job, my next vehicle will be a chevy
