================
The premiere episode of Ram Dass Here and Now! Raghu Markus of the Love Serve Remember foundation explores the origin and early years of Ram Dass. Never heard of Ram Dass? This episode will introduce you to the man and his work. From his early days as a psychologist his introduction to psychedelic pioneer and colleague Timothy Leary as well as the transpersonal experience.
“After the newness wore off, the motorcycle sat in the garage and airplane sat on the landing strip.The possibilities of each of those vehicles for giving me that thing I was looking for inside had been explored. They were very finite and I had appreciated what their limits were.”
Ram Dass first went to India in 1967. He was still Dr. Richard Alpert, a prominent Harvard psychologist and with Dr. Timothy Leary. He continued his psychedelic research until that fateful Eastern trip in 1967, when he traveled to India. In India, he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, affectionately known as Maharajji, who gave Ram Dass his name, which means “servant of God.” Everything changed then - his intense dharmic life started, and he became a pivotal influence on a culture that has reverberated with the words “Be Here Now” ever since. Ram Dass’ spirit has been a guiding light for three generations, carrying along millions on the journey, helping to free them from their bonds as he works through his own.

    "I" desire to meet ram dass, his teachings completely changed my life. One day listening to krishna das after a meditation with ram dass, i heard his words transforming into other words.. i actually UNDERSTOOD sanskrit spontaneously. Now i understand why mantras and music can be so SACRED, just like i see in everyday life in walls, inanimate objects, everything. I know Ram dass is within me, just as he says maharaj-ji is within him, but my wish is to just have a 5 minute conversation through webcam. I love you ram dass. I love you krishna das. Thank you from the WHOLE of my heart

    I find no human accomplishment or ability to be more desirable than piece of mind. I have been laughing for eight months straight, because I achieved this piece doing absolutely nothing! Before January 2017 I was always trying something, one thing after the next, hoping the next thing, I accomplish, will make me love my self. And then the illusion broke! I am now in the after life. I thought the after life was after death, but I realized that that was just an assumption. Join me while I babble more about this on my show. I cant tell you how to bring peace into your life, its already there! love you all!!! ( you may wonder why I can love you even though I don't know you, don't be creeped out:) It's just a byproduct of absolute self love)

    I would say fro 13 to 16 was my journey when 17 I reached Nirvana. I ask my self do I exist, and once I realized I didn't I tried to fight the feeling but I gave in and everything began to cease to exist and then it happened. I was pure concousness. this last a few months then I had what they call the dark night of the soul but it's been 6 years .. ignorance is bliss

    Nikki Williams I Finish the book, and it’s a book to read at least one time every year of your life. Now to the dark night of the soul, I am marry I, have kids and I came to see the dark part of my souls when I was reading the third section of the book, the part was; What is the difference of a teacher and a Guru? And the answer was a teacher, teaches the way, a Guru is the way. My wife and I practice Christianity, but I was living in a dark, just going to church as reaction and saw my family as just a carry-on bag. When I read that part about the way I notice one thing. I been searching for happiness in the wind, always looking up in the sky’s for the next inspiration, but I was not in the here, in the now. I was wishing for the next, but never looking at the side and in-front of me. And my family is my here an my now and it’s and the opportunity to enjoy the year of my kids and the early years of my marriage with my wife were passing and I wasn’t enjoying them. I was losing my here and my now. I understood one thing I can ether be the teacher or the Guru in my family, If I am only the teacher, they will see me as one more teacher, and anyone can teach but just those who have lived and enjoy life can be. Guru to them.

I found it strange that I listened to Terrence recount these same experiences in 1st person then hearing Ram Dass do the same. Who's experience was it? I guess it doesnt matter since as learned from this it's all of ours anyway. Lol

    Ram Dass to some degree, has a grasp of human nature. Spinoza explains through his method of “Improving our understanding,” we learn how to see and live in truth. That we all are striving to persist to exist the best way we know. Going beyond human weaknesses by awakening the spirit of our mind, wayofspinoza.com

I guess we should all remember that this was some dude armed with LSD, an extensive understanding of psychology and a guru with infinite trendy eastern wisdom. Of course his lectures were a racket. He had no idea we’d be pouring over them 50 years on and he must have had a “greatest hits mode” when he wasn’t feelin’ it

    This lecture series would be so much better if only there weren't the annoying laughs of the audience. WHAT IS SO FUNNY?? It is childish and rude behavior that makes it very difficult to focus on what is being talked about. It also has the effect of encouraging people to not take this material seriously. Would you laugh during church service or yoga practice?
