"The frequency in which I'm using the ramboxes is far more than I would be using the bed capacity that I've lost by getting the Ramboxes.".... Well stated! That's the period at the end of that debate! Exactly what I've been trying to verbalize for awhile. Thank you! Well produced video!

Often dividing a space into compartments is more efficient and handier. As a big plus, the boxes are more secure, better organized, and offer substantial protection from the weather and theft. I wish Ram had something like this for their big dual wheel trucks, it would be a very attractive option, the wasted space above the tires is huge.

Rambox = 80 gallon transfer flow tank No rambox =109 gallon transfer flow tank + 8ft bed Don't worry though because having ramboxes and a 6ft bed doesn't mean you have a tiny pecker so you don't need to convince everybody your ramboxes aren't crap. It will just have the opposite effect. Each to their own?

I have had Ram Boxes since 2019. I don't think I could own a truck without them. Just like in the video, one side stays full of tools and other just in case items. The other side stays empty and I just use is for the the items of the day. I have never been upset over a lack of bed space. On the tool box side I keep a drill, battery charger, air compressor, lubricants, fuel treatment, recovery rope, breaker bar, ratchet set, lubricants, tool bag, extension cords, and ratchet straps. The cargo divider has come in more handy that I would have imagined. I keep at arms length most of the time so items don't side too far for me to reach. It makes a great ATV stop as well protecting your back glass. My tuck is a Ram Classic and it has the tabs for the bed extender. I have used it several times as well. It is well worth it to buy the tabs if you don't have them.

I have the same Power Wagon! Black even! I put on- board air with a tank and all of the hoses, etc on the passenger side. I got the gun/ax rack on the drivers side. I store an ax, shovel and rifle (when I decide to do so) on the passenger side and keep some room for discretionary. I put the rest of my recovery gear in there initially. But now I got molle bags for my cargo management system to hold the rest of my recovery gear. I also have a Retrax Pro MX cover. Fantastic setup! I like that I can still get 4 foot wide plywood in the back even with the space taken up by the Ramboxes. Note: I bought the pins for the bed extender from EBay. Just have to pull off the covers and they bolt right in. I heard they stopped doing the pins due to the extender hiding the tail lights from the side. Whatever. :)

100% love mine. Diesel fuel additive, cleaning cloths, sweat shirt, work gloves, guns when hunting, fishing poles, hitches, bungee cords, impact gun, pruning sheers, anything that I don’t need rolling around in the bed or back seat. I will be getting another one in a few weeks that also has them. I will be putting another Bakflip tonneau cover on the new one. I would like the stake pockets, but as you said, the benefits for me were so far above the negative, I don’t want a truck without them. I also love the bed divider. I hold chain saws and generators to the front when camping, or groceries to the back so things don’t slide forward. For what I do, there are so few draw backs and they are so minor for me, I am a huge promoter.

I have old boxes that go inside the bed with a gate. Mopar did not offer then very long. I move them from one Ram to my next Ram. The gate alone is so useful. Keeping fuel cans, used oil containers for disposal, paint, propane bottles, etc. It keeps them in place so they are not rolling around in the bed. I can leave it at the back of the bed for easy access when I get to my destination.

I’m going to consider the boxes pretty hard on my next truck. Have 2012 Megacab now. Toolbox in the back. There’s times I wish the length of the bed could be used more. Love the big cab for long trips but with no tonneau cover because of toolbox luggage for more than just me doesn’t work too well beside weather. I do however need to be able to drop a pallet of corn seed in the bed. Sometimes the bags hang over a pallet a bit but I think it can be done. Also I’m 5’ 10” so getting to everything in my toolbox means climbing in the bed sometimes.

Great informative video, thank you. I also have the Ram Boxes on my 2017 Mega Cab 3500 Limited. I bought the truck to tow my 39 foot 5th wheel. RAM would not include the 5th wheel puck prep package on a Ram Box equipped truck for safety reasons. The bottom rear of a typical 5th wheel kingpin when turning sharply can impact the inner sides of the Ram Boxes. To avoid this, I opted for the Reese Sidewinder kingpin on my 5th wheel which moves the pivot point back about 22 inches up and under the nose of the 5th wheel, while locking the kingpin in place at the hitch so it cannot pivot at that point. The Sidewinder allows for 90+ degree turning with no issues. It tows very well and solid feeling. Yes, I had to install my own 5th wheel hitch rails, but not a big deal as it was a one time installation. I use my Ram Boxes for day to day items as you do on the driver side, while keeping towing equipment in the passenger side box. I am 61 years old and having the convenience of the Ram Boxes to access equipment rather than having to get up into the bed of my truck is great. The Ram Boxes can also be used as big ice chests if needed and have drain plugs at the bottoms, front and rear on each side. However, they are not well insulated, so ice melts faster on a hot day. When ordering my truck new, the Ram Boxes were a no brainer. I am surprised that Ford & GM still haven't offered something like this. The plastic clips on the lock actuator rods tend to break easily defeating the electronic locking of the Ram Boxes with the electronic key. Replacement clips are available from RAM dealers for under $2, but they will likely break again, so I just use one of the extra standard keys to lock and unlock my Ram Boxes. Thanks again for your video.

I am getting a 5th wheel to live in soon, and I was hoping that the Ram Boxes weren't a hindrance to turning the rig. Based on what you are saying, I am afraid the may be. I am not concerned with the narrower width of the cargo area. I think that the boxes more than make up for it in functionality. But I didn't know that you couldn't get a factory fifth wheel hitch from Dodge when equipped with the boxes. That is unfortunate, because I felt that the Dodge bed with all the different configurations was looking ideal. Now I am going to have to do a bunch more research into hitches. I really want my mounting point to be centered over my differential! I am glad I read your comment, though. There's nothing wrong with doing more research! If I can work out how to keep the mounting point where I want it AND get the Ram Boxes, I would be really happy.

I love the Idea. Maybe Ram could tey to squeeze a couple inches more for the bed space either by going a bit wider or reducing 1 inch from the boxes just to make it more convinient as a truck. Actually, I'm thinking about modifying the bed of an old nissan D21 to have that style of boxes in the sides. But I still have to go through a design process so see how convinient I can make it if it is possible at all.

They are fantastic, I had them on my 2014 Ecodiesel Ram, and after being taken out by a drunk driver, I picked up a 2022 ecodiesel with the rambox. Unfortunately on the 2019 and newer, they don't sell the same folding bed divider/extender. The stated reason? Chrysler says that it is because the NHTSA believes the extender blocks the view of the tail lights... (???? WHAT?) anyways, you can buy the divider/extender, and use it as just a divider as is, or you can also purchase the 4 large pins (2 of which have the locking plastic "T" knobs) and install them, all in about 5 minutes, and have yourself the working extender also.

Thanks for the review...great vid and points on pros/cons of what to consider if going with the Rambox option. For me, if I can get two dirt bikes or a 4-wheeler in the bed, then good to go. The dimensions allow this for my application and will be taking the plunge on adding 2 trunks to my HD 2500. I agree that the daily use of the Rambox vs the times the bed space is needed outweighs an extra 3/4 yard of mulch;-)

Since you have the ram box option can you measure what the narrowest point is between the bed sides, at the front of the bed? I'm looking to get one with ram boxes but still want to keep my current narrower toolbox

Hi Eric- enjoyed the video and have same year rig (but non-Power Wagon & in Diesel ) with Ram Boxes. I've enjoyed them & agree with you that they're a compromise but a very functional day-to-day option! Has anyone asked yet what Tonneau cover your running with on your truck here?

Hi Jeff, thanks for sharing. Happy to hear that your experience with Ram boxes are inline with mine so far. The tonneau cover is actually made by a Canadian brand called CW. It performs the exact same function as the Bak Flip (from Bak Industries), but it was about half the price. I haven''t really spoken about it for two main reasons: 1. CW currently does not ship to the US. With the majority of viewers being American, I wouldn't want to deceive them in any way 2. They don't seem to have any models to fit this truck with Ram Boxes anymore. In fact, when I reached out to them, they told me they don't have a cover that would fit my truck, The one I bought was a clearance model and the last one they had, but it was listed for a Ram 1500 6'4" w/Rambox. Box dimensions are the same, so I picked it up. You asked a simple question and got an essay for a response... Hope that answers your question!

@@ORVXplore No worries on long response, Eric -Thnx for clarification on the bed cover. At first glance, I thought it resembled the BakFlip. I'm currently looking at the MX4 & F1 models, since there's not too many to consider for the Ram Boxes & the reviews on those are mixed?? If you get any updates or good feedback for better options for Tonneau covers that work with RB's, maybe you can do a video on that :) Cheers, Jeff

Great video. I currently have a 1500 with the Rambox and no proximity key. I'm upgrading to a 2500 w/Rambox that has a proximity sensor. My question is proximity key related. Once you've pushed the door handle button to lock the truck I know that you still have access to your trunk (as long as the fob is in your pocket) do the Rambox's operate the same as the trunk or do you manually have to unlock them by the fob or putting your hand in the door handle. I am a contractor and I'm in my Ramboxs 20 plus times a day on jobsites, and not having a proximity ket is driving me nuts. Thanks, Terry

Great question. My proximity key does not unlock the Ramboxes through proximity, I have to either use the button or the door handle as you mentioned. The 1500 series might be different, because their Ramboxes have an updated button to open, but the current 2500s don't seem to work through proximity.

Great video! I love my rambox soo much. Sad about the bed extender.. Pins aren't included because it can block the tail light from view from certain angles. Apparently nothing can extend past the tail light legally... This is according to FCA when I inquired.

I just traded my 17 rebel for a loaded 21 Laramie night edition with the boxes and multi function tailgate. I had a 13 outdoorsman with the boxes and forgot just how practical they are for my needs. I was wondering why I couldn't lock in the bed extender so thanks for the info.

  • @squamnh

apparently, they removed the pins because the use of the bed divider as bed extender blocked the visibility of the (opposite side) tail lights when viewed from the a side angle. Updated DOT regulations or some such thing. I also read that there is no change in the pin location or installation from prior years, so you can just pick up the parts and DIY install to use the extender function...
