Ralph Martin - Prepare Yourselves for an Ordeal

Ralph reflects on Sirach 2:1, "My child, when you begin to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal," to help us better understand what this potentially startling verse means.

I cannot stop contemplating the Lord's love for us: it is all-consuming and unconditional; in fact, His Heart is literally on Fire, and unique for each one of us. The pain in His Heart is that people still fail to realize and even appreciate His Love for us. Love Him!

Thank you Ralph! I really needed to hear that today. I have found that passage of scripture to be so strengthening over the years. Trusting in trials makes hope grow! And that reading is full of hope. A beautiful quote by Dostoevski, “There is only one thing I dread, not to be worthy of my sufferings.” Thank you for the hope you shared today.

04:29 min. mark. Excellent, Dr. Martin. Indeed, the difference between Sir Thomas More, who embraced his ordeal to the end and his wife, Alice (Middleton) More, who protested the raw deal while gruffly telling her husband, "I don't think this had to happen," is trusting Christ Jesus in carrying the cross laid upon his shoulders...even to the gallows! +Peace+ & prayers for you, your followers and Holy Church. 😇 **Indeed, may we even bring our enemies to paradise in His Name!**😇 ** +So Be It+ **

“Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, ‘Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.’ The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, ‘Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.’ Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ He replied to him, ‘Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.’ “ ― Luke 23: 39-43 Ask, and you shall receive. Knock, and the door will be opened.

The author of Sirach was named "יֵשׁוּעַ", which is pronounced something like "Yeshua". This was a common Hebrew name honoring the original leader of the Israelite conquest of Canaan, whose name entered English directly as "Joshua". The same name entered Latin as "Iesus", as a name ending in "a" implied femininity in Latin. This in turn became "Jesus" in English as the language doesn't like words that begin with "I" followed by a vowel. For various historical reasons, in English, the Hebrew-Latin-English name was adopted for the Christ while the Hebrew-English name was used for the Old Testament figure, but both figures had the same name in their lives on Earth.

I go to scripture daily for life answers. I love Sirach. I will study it again. I have written down scripture from this book and gave to my children. YES, they were offended but the I did it as a gift and an answer to the holy spirit. None of my family are in the church. I am just glad for this book in scripture. Teaches the faithful about LIFE!!! VERY POWERFUL FOR THESE TIMES. ALL WEEK I OPENED MY BIBLE TO THIS BOOK. TRULY. THIS IS PROFOUND . THE HOLY SPIRIT THROUGH OUT MY JOURNEY HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR ME BUT THIS IS SO WONDERFUL. THANK YOI❤🎉🙏

My ordeal is months a go the priest here advertised in the bulletin for two weeks that he was promoting a book by James Martin, the homosexual promoter. . I sent him an email and told him shame shame shame. My ordeal is his continued failure to acknowledge he was miss leading all who listen to his homilies. I told him I must speak so as not to be responsible for his blood. The ordeal continues. He is the superintendent of the school attached to the church where in the fourth grade class is a gay pride flag used as a background board for the class rules. Perhaps I should not have noticed or remarked on the incongruity of his words and acts. Can you give me any guidance
