Rally Stage Notes Explained! Zac FAILS At Calling Notes For Ken Block

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The co-driver and pace notes are some of the most important elements of rally racing. But how hard could it be to just sit and read notes? We threw Zac in the passenger seat of my Cossie v2 during a test stage of the Southern Ohio Forest Rally to find out just how difficult of a job it is.

The good thing is that every driver/codrirver pair has it's own style of notes. Sometimes i make pacenotes with a friend of mine and our style is very similar to the one used on the DIRT games (our favourite game was colin mcrae rally 05 🤣). Obviously it's a much more simple system because we don't push it really hard, but it's good training because we have a rally project car we want to race in a year or two

Yes, RD2 can be harder, but harder doesn't always mean realistic. I wouldn't say WRC9 is realistic either, but I get to feel the tyres better on WRC9 than RD2 especially on tarmac stages. On tarmac it felt like I was playing a game that used the slightly mad engine, one of the most prominent engine that gives almost realistic rubber tyre feel; Automobilista 2 uses it. Although I must say that WRC9 feels really really good when using WRC cars, obvious because of the game title, but is a bit worse when using the historic cars. Rally is so weird like that. They get like one time to drive around in a slow car and figure out the pace notes and pick up on dangerous or scary parts to highlight then they just go for it even if it's their first time on that track first lap is very fast then once they get comfortable its flat out even if the driver doesn't remember everything because the codriver figured it out and made an adjustment on the notes. Every other type of racing drivers know their track insanely well. Really makes it a crazy sport

So.. We know Ken and the other fellow are friends and associates. We know Ken is crazy. So major kudos to him for getting in the car. Because not a chance in hell Ken passed up on that opportunity. He knew it would be scary. The good kind you get on roller coasters. 10/10. Would watch again even if pooping happened.
