This is what people should be focusing on. Everyone should move towards understanding the craft, expertise and technicalities of Mehdi shb to realize the true stature of Mehdi shb. This is an important document. The mix of South Indian music with ghazals and North Indian styles is extraordinary. Pakistani film music has some extraordinary ambiance. I wondered what it was since I was a child. Hearing Noor Jehan in an old film on VHS 'Kyon Log Mohabbat Karte Hai?' on Imrozia. I had never heard a human being open their mouth and make that sound. The voice had some sort of frequency that pierced the spirit. The song was not really about love, nor was it really a mujra. It was like the voice of God expressing that holding onto anything in life will hurt us, so let go and enjoy things without grasping and pain. I understood a long time after that what I could 'hear' and the God was Sufism in Pakistani films. And all the spinning actresses and whirling winding vocals were Sufi singers. I became a Sufi later on, led by Noor Jehan, Afshan, Nahid Akhtar, Mehdi Hassan and latterly Naseebolal and some Turkish singers like Ebru Gündeş [music before 2001] and Müslüm Gürses. This unbelievable survived document is showing that Hinduism and South India influences are in that mystical mix that we could not have put our finger on what on earth it was. Now we know. Irfan this is really a precious thing you have here. Mehdi Hassan, like all those Pakistani film people [I met some like Sangeeta] have no edge about themselves. They are simple people of another time, another time in the world. I don't think we will ever see the like of these performers again. But they still live on through us and our channels in our 'time travel' with the Sufis. Thanks for this ; ) K

@@rajkanwal7986 Dhrupad Kanartik singing. This is one of the oldest singing styles in the Sub-Continent. Read the articles on it and watch the videos and examples of South Indian Music of Dhrupad singers. It is South Indian Muslim singing to Sufi and Hindu Themes. It has specific forms and styles that are the most ancient on the continent. At some time Mehdi Hassan's family must have lived in South India and brought this Dhrupad style up to Punjab. That is why this mystical Kanartik style pervades Pakistani music with the Sufis of the ghazals and film industry. The Dhrupad article on Wikipedia is complex and detailed on this South Indian Muslim singing. ; ) K

Wow, , the video is no doubt is a documentary! But your comment on it, is yet another beautiful documentary! Are you a musician or something? Because music has something strange inside it! It really compels you to get in touch with others, no matter who you are, how far you are. I second that- seems very similar to the Agra Gharana style of singing, yet, doesn't sound like Asad Ali Khan Agrawale. If this is indeed Ismail Khan (Mehdi Hassan's uncle) or Ghulam Qadir Khan (Mehdi Hassan's brother), does anyone have any more khayal recordings of either of them?

Not agreed with respect mehdi hussan sahaab about vocal vibration and straight notes philosophy this is god gifted some natural vocals you can some you can't make it straight no matter how much vocal practice you do singer's like Tallat mehmood what a beautiful ghazal singer with natural vibration voice 😀 sometimes you have good solid straight voice but with age factor you get vibration in your voice like Gulam Ali ghazal singer these day's so there are so many different factors may Allah bless Mehdi hussan sahaab soul but his words not the last ❤ 😀

With due respect.. you have your own opinion.. I respect that.. But according to my understanding.. Mehdi sb talking about the singers who impart vibration to their singing by themselves.. now the question is "who are they?"..If you know music, you will automatically judge them.. So far as mentioned singers are concerned.. Ghulam Ali'vibration is due to age factor.. mehdi sb didn't meant that.. we all know about the fact that GA never was like he is now.. Its age factor.. Talat Sb's vibration is natural.. he doesnt intend to give vibration himself.. If you want to know more specifically: Talat Mehmood's vocal vibration is similar to Surayya Multanikar.. Hope you understand.. Its not the matter you agree with me.. Regards..

Mehdi Hasan was the greatest singer and musician. He speaks here is very important point. I never liked Talat Mahmood only due to these annoying vibrations. There are others too, who have that weakness.

Do not ever touch Ustad Mehdi Hasan’s song ever…. You are not even close! Stop singing ghazal, it is not for you!
