Is it really cheaper or better to raise your own food, or buy it at the store?

You say the pigs were only 10 lbs at 8 weeks of age. That's awful low. They should have been in the 25-30 lbs range. Also, you grew the pigs into the cold months, so they were burning calories to stay warm instead of putting on weight. Next time, I recommend you try to find larger 8 week old pigs and get them in April/May, that way you process them in October/November. Feed them a 16% crude protein feed the entire time. Try to find pigs that are not runts. You want healthy looking pigs that are already putting on good weight by the time you buy them. Best of luck on your next go!

I think we will definitely try to process them ourselves next time, we really just have to much going on right now to do it ourselves
