Great video! We just got five blue laced barnevelder chicks for eggs. They are now in a box with a heat lamp at one end, water, food, and bedding, in the laundry room. They all found the water and food, so we are off to a good start. The hottest part of the box is around 95 and the opposite corner is a bit cooler.
Thanks guy! I hope the ignorant find your video…incubator hatched my 1st chic..a brooder hen kept killing hatchlings within shell, Chickens are a union. Very pecking order you know.. we love chickens, they are truly the survivors of the fittest 🙌🏼
This is the type of video that KZread needs to go viral ❤
They go after the "red" because it is the same color as blood, They are always in need of protein, baby dinosaures.

I just heard someone say hens are attracted to red because of the attraction the red rooster combs.
My hubby found 6 baby chicks on the road this morning and bought them into our garage. No mamma hen around. (Many neighborhoods here in Hawaii have chickens and roosters running around.). I know NOTHING about raising them but your video was very helpful.Will go to the farm supply store tomorrow and get what’s needed…now that I know what that is 👍🏼👍🏼. Thank you.

Great advice. Did not do the probiotic thing. Ours were 2 weeks old when we got them. We only got 6. Thanks again for the help
Thank you for the video. It was a crash course for me before going to buy chicks.
This is gold! Thank you again for the exact video I needed
Okay bud, I saw the same thing with inexperienced chicken buyers Sunday evening, at the local Rural King. There was a guy in there about to buy baby chicks for his 2 little girls. He was asking about what all he needed and didn't have a clue. I told him about heat both lamp and radiant, chick food, water shelter, etc. Basically a momma hen for about 6 week. He was very thankful as he didn't know and also didn't purchase that day. I referred him to your video and to Becky's Homestead videos. Hopefully he watches them. I have raised baby chicks for years and still tune in to the various videos here on KZread, just to see if there's anything new to it that I may not know. I guess all we can do when put in situations of where someone may kill their baby chicks is try to inform and educate them; at least that's what I did.

What a great video! Thanks for sharing simple tips!
Thanks you for simple and good answers to raising chick. I'm about to get started with a 5 chic first. Thanks again.
Billy very good video, Ive seen this also people buying chicks and letting there kids play with them and the chicks ending up dead.
Glad you popped up on my feed. I’ve raised chicks but you showed me a couple of improvements- thanks.
Hey Billy, stopping by to thank you for your video. I followed everything you put in your video and our chicks are so happy, healthy, spunky and playful. They are about 3wks old now. Chicks are pretty easy if you follow and do what he says. Thanks again. 👍😁👍

Thanks a million for the vote of confidence my friend!
Nothing wrong with being a prepper, just do your research on things. Knowledge is king.
I’ve raised chicken for 8 year and still don’t call myself an Expert but I’ve hatched phantoms I’ve hatched silkies eggs I’ve had many many many eggs I’ve hatched quail eggs I raised ducks don’t go ballistic guys can yourself a heat lamp put a thermometer in there raise it up a little bit each week as they grow feathers make sure your probiotics and electrolytes are mixed together guaranteeing you have flourished flock in your time
This was the best chicken video ever👍👍❤️
Wonderful video, excellent sentiments. They are food, but it’s not excuse not to be kind to them while they are alive.
Helpful Hint! Buy a used Graco pack and play playpen. I got one for $20. Perfect and best of all it stores away easily when not in use.
We just got baby chicks today!!! They were a little older than we planned (about a week old), and they only currently had Easter Eggers and Plymouth Rocks (not Barred, so I think Partridge? supposed to turn white when older). We only got six of them, but I hope they're okay! I struggled dipping their beaks into the water, they kept rearing back, and the size of the bowl thing just made it really awkward to get them in there. So I hope it was clear enough to them! Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I kind of just want to dip them again to be sure, lol.
Great video, great personality 👍
Yeah Billy very wise man, listen to him it is crucial to give water to chicks(they might live without food 48h but water first) and grinded food green and other you might give them boiled eggs.
Great advice
I'm want layers since I'm in the city can only have 6 but my son almost bought me some for my birthday I said no I need to be prepared for them never had them but I knew I needed more info then just bringing them home so thank God im not a crack head lol
Thanks so much for this video
Great video
You always get the crib ready before the baby comes home. It's the same with chicks
what kind of water should we use? great video!
I liked it when he was talking about the wood shavings and he dumped it on the little chick behind him
Love the shirt. I was in country. 1970

nice. ty
i have raised 5 generations of chickens and have always used tap water. Never lost a chick. Can anyone explain why he advised that I not use tap ?
@EdmundiumHitting

In some places tap water quality is low, and can hurt them. Where you live may have better tap water quality
What a beautiful place you have.

Would you suggest starting with dual purpose birds to build up the flock first, then do half as layers and half as meat birds?
@PermaPasturesFarm21
3 жыл бұрын
You could absolutely do that.
my chicks went to the food and water on their own after about 20 mins or less. i was upset because i could only find a clear light but they don't seem to mind. if your not prepared don't worry it only took us 15 mins to set everything up for them. we built a chicken coop and put a container in there for them. it was cold last night so we put a roof over their container and this morning they were fine not even huddled up on top of each other they looked comfortable. i'm still freaking out thou cause this is my first time getting chickens. and the store was out of some tings we needed i ended up making them a feeder and they took well to it.
I love raising chickens, they may be more pets than layers. 😂
Can you tell me more about the ACV in their water or those packets?
@PermaPasturesFarm21
3 жыл бұрын
Chelsey Vuyk we don’t use ACV in their water until about week 4. We typically use electrolyte and probiotic packets that we buy from the feed store when they are small.
We just hatched out three of our own chicks with an incubator.
Trial and error. Sadly the animals lives were taken. But I can’t say I have never killed a fish when I first started out in fish-keeping. Dispute how much research I have done. Some things are a on hand learning lesson. After the first two fish I killed I learned what the issue was. And was able to grow 30” fish in home before I located them to a lady’s pond down the rd where they could grow out more. (Fancy tailed Kio “butterfly”) I have heard that heatlamps are dangerous and now there are brooder heat plates.
@patriciawhite6429
2 жыл бұрын
there only dangerous if you don't secure them well and you do want to check to see if the birds go away from it and stay away that means it too hot and you need to raise it but if they constantly huddle under it that means it needs to lower. i was worried about the lamps too but so far so good.
You want a red light because it doesn't hurt their eyes, white light is hard on their eyes.
Living on a farm with over 3000 birds we have baby’s love love love feather dusters also they will get up under that like they would a mama hen ❤❤❤
What's the internal temperature of the room?
@PermaPasturesFarm21
3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about the whole room but near that chick light is over 100 degrees. They can get closer or farther away as they need.
Do you recommend two waterers? One for probiotic and one for regular water?
Fire risk for having light is too great. Heat plate they can hide under and keep warm is better, more natural and NO fire risk.
POW MIA shirt, using the word “attrition” to describe chick casualties. You must be a soldier sir.
