Rainy Day on the Outdoor Model Train Layout (HO Scale)
In this video you will see an overview of what happens to my layout in the rain, slight damage from wildlife (easily repairable or replaced), a few puddles, etc. and a soon to come feature.

I went from HO to G in 1996 and still have quite a bit of HO in storage. Now you have me thinking and since I do Blunami/battery installs I might just consider doing an HO shelf along the back privacy fence. Oh yes, love your layout.

Be sure to use pressure treated wood. Life expectancy is 25 years or so.

This is the first I've heard of such an animal...a fence line railroad? Fascinating! I may have just found a reason to build a fence!
Nice layout, I can see the work and planning you have done, enjoyed thevideo.

I have a HO scale garden railway that is a small fraction of yours. I run my engines with battery power using radio control. It works good. I used some old tyco track that is rusty, and it looks prototypical (although my RR is the farthest thing from modeling anything in real life) Track maintenance involves a garden hose.

That's very cool. I would love to find out more information on how you have them battery powered. i just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for viewing my page.

@@blakrootz I avoid Google when I can, but use your favorite search engine to look up “dead rail society”. It’s a good starting point. And there have been improvements since I converted mine. I like that you didn’t listen to those that say HO isn’t suitable for outdoor layouts. You showed them didn’t you!
Outstanding! We just downsized into a smaller house with a narrow yard all the way around. This is a great idea for an outdoor system. I haven't watched your entire video yet, but I will before the day is out.
Very impressive love the layout.

I want to build an outdoor, layout do you have any big issues with this? How do your trains run? How often do you need to clean the track?

You may want to consider your location. how hot does it get, does it snow, does it rain frequently etc.? My trains run great but it is seasonal and all worth it. I clean the tracks before each run. It can take me almost two hours so I usually do it the day before. In doing so, I have more time to run on my run day. If the weather is fair, I only have to clean the track once a week.
Hey how you doing one question how you protect your track n your layout (wood) from the different elements where do you keep your train when you are not running……you just gave me a good idea to set my train on the outside n the backyard

I'm doing well, thanks for asking. I only use pressure treated wood. It is all weather durable and lasts about 25 years or so. Trains are always stored in the house on the interior portion of the layout. Thanks for viewing and be sure to subscribe to my KZread channel for more video updates.
How do you chaps keep the creepy crawlies away? Thinking of an outdoor setup for lego train...

Lol. Unfortunately there's no way. Just keep a feather duster near by when it's time to sweep the webs down.
Wouldn’t the tracks get dirty or corroded?

No, these tracks are weather resistant. They are PECO Code 100 Nickel Silver. Thanks for viewing. Here is a recent video of me running on the layout as a 5 year anniversary. Enjoy. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fI1ss8all6zHdqg.html
Z scale to O scale is made for indoors and isn't meant for outdoor use. This is why!! Wait until that what appears to be cork dries and buckles. Most boxes that HO trains are sold in say "for indoor use only" At least they use to.

The foundation of my layout is built with pressure treated wood, galvanized joints, stainless steel nails, stainless steel shelf hangers, and roofing paper. Please review my earlier videos and kindly read the comments, responses, and similar inquiries for more details. This video is a continued informal to show that in almost four years (Memorial Day 2018) it is still possible to have an outdoor HO Scale layout using the right materials. More outdoor video is coming soon. Thanks for viewing. 👍🏾👍🏾😁

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for the explanation. I was considering an outdoor track but under a covered area. Very cool layout. I bet that wasn’t cheap to do. Love it!! Must be amazing for guests to see.
