RAINMAKER | A WILD ALASKA DEER HUNTING FILM
Фильм және анимация
Hunting southeast Alaska requires absolute preparation. From one's fitness to the gear a hunter chooses to bring, this is a landscape that scoffs at minimal preparation. Fail to adequately prepare for a hunting trip here and you'll (hopefully) live to regret it.
In August 2022, Brad and Jason were joined by the crew from Vortex Optics for a memorable hunt in a new spot they'd been wanting to check out for hunting big Sitka blacktail bucks. What transpired was one of the most exhilarating and yet challenging hunts in years. After several years of enjoying picture perfect weather in a land known for not being so accommodating, the crew battled some of the most severe weather they'd ever seen on a hunt.
As if that wasn't enough, they also shared this wild land with more brown bears than they'd ever seen on any one hunt. These encounters added to the experience in immeasurable ways.
Grab a seat and sit back and enjoy our latest feature film: Rainmaker.

Appreciate you watching!
I LOVED the recurring themes of this film. Humility, positive attitude and fortitude. Attributes I aspire to. I was just getting on the treadmill to do cardio and wanted something inspiring to watch. Spot on!

Much appreciated!
This video was so pleasing to absorb. I’ve done similar. You really can’t fully “know” unless you have scaled the next peak for a “maybe”. Over and over. The mind and body have to cope with the untidy situations…hopefully the spirit rises and rules in such unpredictable weather and country. Sawyer is wise and on his way to more wisdom. Thank you. Very grateful for this video.

Brad and crew, congrats on another great Alaskan adventure! I just returned from a PCT section hike in prep for Sept elk and we encountered a surprise late June snow storm which was no problem because we were warm and dry in our Absaroka shelter and insert! Keep up the great job and enjoy the life's journey!

Amazing! 🙌✊
Until you've actually tried to hike it, you can't really explain to someone just how thick that underbrush is. Its like an endless uphill jungle gym with thorns.

No words do it justice. It was truly miserable.
Good job 👍
This is the best Argali film yet, in my opinion. Great film, I loved the music, commentary, and visuals. Just make sure you guys record at least the head with the antlers when you walk up on the animal.

We lived in our first lite Omen rain gear and it was fantastic day in and day out.
“ One last drink “
If I had to guess by the amount of rain you got, it was a September or early October hunt. South Central Alaska, Kodiak, it a very wet place during those months. Great Film

You're real close. This was late August
If this is South East Alaska... then I'm Humphrey Bogart. It looks like the South part of Kodiak Island... the tree-less side.
This is not southeast Alaska! It looks more like Kodiak, southeast is covered in timber to a minimum of 2000 ft
South West Alaska
Congrats! Great country. What island? ABCs?
Great video you guys! One technical question: how to you keep the meat to conserve itself until the plane arrives?
@Argali
Жыл бұрын
Great question...it was cold enough at night to keep the meat for a couple of days and we had our pilot do a meat run to grab it and throw it in a cooler

Which rifles models are used in the film? They appear top performing.

All Nosler rifles. Some were Mountain Carbon in a 28 nosler and a few M48 Nosler in 300 win mag
How did you stash the first three deer? You sink them in a pool on the creek? Grizz didn't raid them?
@Argali
Жыл бұрын
Thankfully we had no bears come in and raid the meat. Not much we could do besides stash the deer in game bags a good distance away from camp and further up the ridge we were on (and keep a clean camp). With no trees to hang from, we placed the meat in a highly visible spot on top the ridge where we could see everything when we walked in to check on things.

@@Argali should pee on the ground all around the stash spot. The human pee makes the bears nervous. I'm sure they know the difference between wild animal pee, and human pee. That area, probably , the only human visitors have guns.
You indicate a trip like this is not to expensive. Can you give us an idea of the cost? Really want to do trip like this!
@Argali
Жыл бұрын
It's all relative, but compared to other Alaska hunts it's a lot less expensive but highly variable by location and time of year, style of trip, etc.
@danielj6208

Can you do a breakdown video of a trip like this at some point?

Great film but seems kind of weird the number of times you said that every one sucks except me and one other guy. I think it's at 4 or 5 times so far and I have 8 minutes to go. I don't know but it seems like an odd way to refer to everyone who doesn't have the means or the time to do what you do.
