Opened 6-2-1996 as the third rainforest cafe location. It was the first location to feature elephant animatronics and it’s currently the oldest rainforest cafe still in operation after the closures of the original Bloomington store and Schaumburg, and also is the last location open in Illinois after the closures of Schaumburg and Chicago.

Rip to the one in Chicago
Wow, I recently stopped by this location this month and last May before I went on a vacation to New York City and a cruise from there to Bermuda with Royal Caribbean before I went to Six Flags Great America. Yesterday, as I went to Minneapolis last weekend, I went to Mall of America for my 2nd time and visited the Mall of America location by their sister restaurant chain owned by Landry’s, Bubba Gump on the 3rd floor of the mall (relocation from the original location on the 1st floor). Yes, sadly the Chicago location at Navy Pier closed in 2020, due to the pandemic, and the space has since became a Chef Art Smith’s Reunion restaurant.

When I went to Mall of America for the first time in 2005, it was originally on the first floor at the time of me visiting the big shopping mall and where the Nickelodeon Universe is now used to be Camp Snoopy and later The Park at MOA before 2008. Though, I was never aware where the original location used to be at that time as I was only 6 years old when I went to Mall of America for my first time there back in 2005.
