there was a cut scene of harpy!eda screaming "BOoOOOoooNE" on the roof and then raine hearing her from across the Boiling Isles while at work and just SPRINTING home. unfortunately it didnt fit the audio...

For anyone struggling with the problem: it's much more readily apparent if you think about it with a larger number. Imagine there are 100 doors, behind one is a car - you pick one at random(there is a 1% chance you picked the right one), then 98 doors are opened revealing nothing, leaving the one you picked and one other one, behind one is the car. There is a 1% chance you picked right the first time, so there's a 99% chance the other remaining one has the car. You should switch. Same works for just 3.

@@zetahurley294 except that still just leaves me with two closed doors, each of which originally had a 1% chance of having a car behind it, but now that they are the only two unrevealed doors, they have a 50/50 chance of having the car behind them. I don't see why changing which door you open changes your odds.

@@feltrix334 because of the chance of you picking right the first time 99% chance you picked wrong the first time, so then when the host opens up 98 of the doors, they have to make sure that the last one has the car behind it 1% chance you picked right the first time, so then the host can leave any other door closed, and it'll be empty. 99% of the time the host will make sure the only other closed door, is the one that has the car, does it make more sense now?

I hate the Monty hall problem because it’s basically the argument of if you flip a coin 4 times you should get 2 heads and 2 tails but since probability doesn’t work like that when the guy opens the door in a scenario with two doors left it is a 50/50 but from the perspective of the beginning a 1/3 chance you were right all along meaning 2/3 it could be the other ones

this, was amazing.

The problem is way easier to understand if you think about the case where there are 100 doors. You randomly pick a door with a 1/100 chance of being correct. The host opens 98 doors leaving one seemingly random door closed. The probability that you chose the correct door hasn't changed meaning that the other door now has a 99/100 chance of having the prize and you should switch. The 3-door version of the problem is the same; you guess with a 1/3 probability and the remaining doors have a 2/3 probability. The host will never open the door with the prize so they will always choose to open the door without a prize which is the crucial reason why the other door remains a 2/3 chance rather than it being a 50:50.

Why did this work so well?

Choosing not to do nothing is still a choice, and anything that happened beforehand is irrelevant. In a vacuum, there's no reason to switch, and no reason *not* to switch. If, say, you're playing against a machine, then sticking to your guns is equivalent to choosing the door you already chose, which has the same probability of being the car as the other one, which is at this point 50%. Or, to put it another way, imagine if you had two chances to guess right and get the car. The first time, you guess *wrong*. That door is eliminated. The scenario is the same - you have one chance, and two choices, and no indication which is which. The only thing that matters in this scenario is how much you can read and predict the host, which is psychology, not probability.

You pick a door. It has a 1/3 chance of being the one with a car behind it. The host opens one of the other doors, specifically one that _doesn't_ have a car behind it.

This video is why I started watching B99. I’m now about half way through season 8.

Here’s the thing, I would go with Raines idea, both eda and raine are technically right speaking, depending on what you choose from start, if you choose wrong from start which is more likely 2/3 vs 1/3 more likely to pick the wrong one, and then change your answer no matter what you get it right. But if your eda and luckily get it right first shot and don’t change your answer then you win.

2:13. AJ: It's behind one of these three doors. Why don't you pick one? Eda: So you have chosen death.
