@@user-hl6mm1bp8l That's actually not true. Brazil is the most populous nation in Latin America with over 100 million of it's citizens being black. They actually have the largest black population outside of Africa. . Argentina is an outlier with a tiny population. Colombia is 1/3 black, Venezuela and Peru which are very populous nations, are substantially black. Cuba is mostly black like DR. In Cuba we are dark, pretty shiny black like Haitians, with a very African culture. There are black people in Central America as well, with Guatamala and Belize being essentially the same country as they once were before the British took over Belize. My job was traveling throughout Latin America, working for an NGO out of college. What l saw is that Latin America is very black, being the place that most of the enslaved Africans were shipped to. It is a place where Africans maintained their culture and religions. It's way more black than America. lt's just that the American media lies, wanting people to think that "black" is only African American when most black people in the Americas speak Spanish and Portuguese. My face is the majority face of many Latin American countries yet why is it that when American films cast Cubans it's some brunette white girl dancing off beat? I go to Cuba often to see my family. Our island and culture is so African that Africans who visit Cuba say it is just like home. When you get out of America people understand that. I live in Europe and when l'm in Rome, Portugal or Spain Europeans always assume l am Latin American even before l open my mouth to speak. Whereas in America l have to explain why l am black and Spanish speaking. America is an anti black lie machine which makes people hate themselves 💯

As a mixed person, I want to like this show, but I'm not so far. Everyone's acting is mediocre (the Aunt's is really bad), except the kids. I get everyone's lived experience differs. However, certain things in the show seem unrealistic or untrue based on my lived experience and growing up with and/or knowing other mixed people. I was born in the mid 80s and grew up in 90s. From what I know of the 80s and seen/experienced in 90s, white guys were known for not going to dances with and not expressing interest in both black girls and biracial girls mixed with black in middle and high school. I know this has changed a lot over the past two decades. And I will admit I have not watched this episode yet, therefore, I do not know how it plays out. However, stuff in this show just seems off from what I experienced. The whole narrative of the mean dark/brown skinned black girls towards mixed girls (like they have in the show), I simply didn't see or experience. It's been my experience black girls have always been accepting and friendly towards mixed girls. Yeah, there were/are exceptions. However, I feel the exceptions are far less, yet the exceptions get more attention than the accepting majority. Like Pose, I feel this show also makes out of place references. I'm pretty sure they weren't saying "somebody is feeling himself" in the 80s...

natyra22 I think the black people on this show overall are protrayed as bullies. It is written like as a race that in that time we weren’t exposed to different shades of blackness. Everytime there is an issue with them being biracial it starts with us. I grew up in the 80’s in a very diversed town and never asked my fair skinned black friend what was she?! I don’t know how authentic that is to the culture. The aunt is written very one dimensional in her response to race as a whole and the overall black experience.
