Railway children film locations on KWVR

Спорт

This film shows all the primary locations around Oakworth, Howarth and Oxenhope that were used in the 1970 blockbuster movie "The Railway Children" Directed by Lionel Jeffries and staring Jenny Agutter the film is still a favourite with both young and old.
The video visits the following locations.
1 Bents House, Oxenhope. The house used as the Yorkshire home for the railway children.
2 The stone style at the rear of Bents House where Mr Perks had trouble lifting the hamper over.
3 Mytholmes tunnel Howarth where the children would sit on the fence and wave at the passing trains. It also shows the Oakworth side of the tunnel where the landslide and paper chase was filmed together with the section of track used to film the red petticoat train stop scene.
4. Bronte parsonage museum, Howarth. Home of the Bronte sisters and used in the film as Dr Forest's home.
5.The house below the Bronte parsonage museum used as the Post Office and general store.
6. The tourist information center, Howarth used as the butchers shop.
7. Number 2 Lodge Street, Howarth used as the cobblers shop.
8. Vale Fold Cottages, Oakworth used in the paper chase scene.
9. Oakworth Station, the main station featured in the film
10. Railway Cottage, Oakworth. Used as Mr Perks home.
11. The road bridge at Ebor Lane, Howarth where the film was concluded
My tribute also contains Live scene productions filmed on Oakworth Station as part of the KWVR 2013 Railway Children Day. Enjoy.

I thought there was going to be no gravitas in the “Daddy, my daddy” scene. I knew it wasn’t going to be like the real thing, but, it still had me in tears. What a film. Many, many thanks for making this documentary.

So nice to think steam is still in charge on these rails all these years later from when it was first opened in 1867. My dad was on the railways 47 years and when i see s team locomotive I always think of him on the footplate....

Rather poetic and so typically British, well put together for a little nostalgic look back nearly half a century on. Highlights what a beautifully made film The Railway Children is. Well done sir!

Lovely,I think this was my favourite film, loved Jennifer agutter, she was a natural and still is... I still get excited when it comes on now 😊 love watching the locations, I lived across from a railway station as a child whenever it was coming we use to run across the road to watch it go by, and get lost in the smoke. , there's just something about a steam train

The scene was filmed on the approach to the tunnel from the Oakworth side, the same side as the landslide. If you look closely in my film you will see a view from the tunnel towards Oakworth at the point where the landslide was filmed. You will see two low brick walls alongside the track about 100 meters from the tunnel entrance. This is actually the top of a small bridge. This bridge top is visible in the film just after the point that Peter shouts for Bobby to get off the line. Hope this helps

I understand from my uncle (who was somehow involved through being a member of Keighley Cine Circle) that the landslide shot was image reversed. I.e. left was right and right was left. The scene with the red petticoats also reversed so the train reversed away from them rather than just stopping in time.

Jenny agutter was just so perfect for the film and with all the inocence that went with it and to this day i still watch the film over and over again, because if they ever do a remake the actors would be covered in tattoos and using foul language which would wreck the quality of the bygone era.So top marks steve for doing this for us and we look forward to more of the same if you can manage it. Regards and thanks a bunch J.T.

4:02 At this point up to the 4:19 minutes , this railways place is used to record the another movie, _Pink Floyd The Wall._ In the film, a model 8F-8431 locomotive was showed. She is currently in a museum. On this link, we can see the scene where she goes pass: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lYeCpNJtesiaibA.html

Hard to believe that the film’s fifty years old now. The two girls in the re+creation of the ‘daddy’ scene look a bit older than the characters in the film. Pity the main line to Halifax and Bradford Exchange via Queensbury closed in 1955. Some bridge abutments for that line can still be seen from a passing KWVR train between the site of the junction and Ingrow (West) Station.

With other members of my school film society I went to watch the filming a few times. Many years later whilst working as a cameraman on Scrapheap Challenge I shot this take-off of the 'Daddy, my Daddy!' scene. for a railway themed episode. We didnt shoot on the KWVR but used the Forest of Dean Railway in Gloucestershire instead. kzread.info/dash/bejne/o6KN3MOKnrHPqrg.html

To be fair, the remake was pointless. The 1970 film was perfection and had everything it possibly could have, and being timeless there was no need for the remake. Was the remake a vanity project or something?
