    The mirror bit was just a joke. It's a two sided mirror. He was using one side of it. She was using the other side. Her side was dirty, so she flipped it around - not realizing - that he was sitting close to it and would get smacked. He screams in pain as it smacks him in the face - she is supposed to be comically oblivious. She doesn't realize she's hurt him (even though it should be obvious). It's just meant to be funny.

    The bit where she says, "I was a child". She wasn't saying she was literally a child. It was a fairly common euphemism at the time to describe someone with no experience, someone that was naïve, or unjaded that way. When the film was released, no one would have thought, "We better make sure no one wonders whether our hero actually diddles children."

    A commenter who has since deleted their comment (probably because of what I replied) said that, in an interview, it was stated he was a grad student and she was 16 when it happened. So yes, she was "a child" in that she was emotionally inexperienced and probably completely infatuated with Indy. (I also pointed out that in most western countries and over 50% of US states, 16 is the age of consent. But not in California where it's 18, which is why people get so obsessed with the age "18" because in smutty movies they have to say they're 18.)

    The Ark of the Covenant supposedly contained the stone tablets with the 10 commandments, Aarons rod and a pot of mana. Only the Jewish tribe of Levites could actually touch the ark as it was said that anyone else would be struck dead by the power of God. This was a great adventure film and I remember watching it in a theatre when it first came out. The second film is ok and the third is awesome. But the first is still my favorite. The fourth film has an ending that did not sit well with people. I have not yet seen the fifth.

    As a big Spielberg and Harrison Ford fan, one of my favorite movies. To me it will always be just Raiders of the Lost Ark. The "Indiana Jones and the" was added after the sequels were released. It's an homage to the cliffhanger movie serials of the 30s and 40s. The seaplane at the beginning of the film had the call letters OB-CPO and images of C-3PO and R2-D2 appear in the hieroglyphs on a wall in the Well of Souls Spielberg first included the coat hanger gag in his film 1941, but cut it when it failed to get any laughs during early screenings. He vowed to use it in every movie until it worked. The scene where Indy shoots the swordsman was supposed to be a big choreographed fight but Ford, as well as most of the rest of the cast and crew, had contracted dysentery and he was unable to stand for more than 15 minutes at a time. They tried to film the scene as planned, but just couldn't make it work, so they changed it and an iconic scene was born. The next movie, Temple of Doom, is, in my opinion, the worst of the series, though many like it. The Last Crusade is at least as good as this one, plus it costars Sean Connery. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull got a lot of hate from fans, but I didn't think it was all that bad, even if it does costar Shia LaBeouf.

  • @ronweber1402

    @ronweber1402

    I think it was the intense Shia hate at the time that really hurt Crystal Skull and after what, 12 years of waiting fans expected something as good as Last Crusade but what they got was just okay and just okay in the wake of Last Crusade was a huge disappointment.

    I love the ending so much. When the Bible says 'thou shalt not anger the Lord thy God' it is not a recommendation, it's a warning that you will not be around to do so a second time. And what exactly did the Nazis expect? They made a lifestyle out of slaughtering the chosen people of the deity whose artifact they just defiled!?

    I feel like so many people fail to understand this simple message from spielberg and lucas.. whether the holocaust happened yet or not those nazi’s had a lot of gall thinking they could harness the power of the single most holy artifact in all of judaism. As a grandson of a holocaust survivor who lost her parents and sibling to the nazis, I always get a kick out of that ending scene with the face melting. 👍

  • @MartinBeerbom
    @MartinBeerbom28 күн бұрын

    The backstory for the stuff at the beginning came from, and was recognized by us at the time, stories like the "Treasure of the Sierra Madre": A bunch of people have to work together to find a treasure, because each of them only holds one piece of the information (map) to find it. Then, when the final place was reached, some (or all) try to betray the others to get the whole treasure for themselves. That's what the guy with the gun tries. Satipo (Alfred Molina) was smarter, probably knowing that he still needed the talent of Indy. After all, he almost succeeded with his move. That's also why Indy didn't know about Reggie's pet snake: He just hired him as a fallback plan becasue he knew he would be betrayed at some point. That's also why Reggie is hanging out fishing: He's not really involved in the whole treasure hunt, just told to wait at a certain place at a certain time just in case.

    "All your life has been spent in pursuit of archaeological relics. Inside the Ark are treasures beyond your wildest aspirations. You want to see it opened as well as I. Indiana, we are simply passing through history. This, this IS history." Fun Fact: Most of the "body blow" sounds were created by hitting a pile of leather jackets with a baseball bat. Historical Fact: No serious archaeologist believes the Ark Of The Covenant is in Tanis. In fact, it's a known fact that it is in Ethiopia. Location Location Fact: During filming in Tunisia, nearly everyone in the cast and crew got sick except director Steven Spielberg. It is thought that he avoided illness by eating only the food he'd brought with him: A lot of cans of Spaghetti-O's. What Script Fact: The famous scene in which Indy shoots a marauding and flamboyant swordsman was not in the original script. Harrison Ford was supposed to use his whip to get the sword out of his attacker's hands, but the food poisoning he and the rest of the crew had gotten made him too sick to perform the stunt. After several unsuccessful tries, "shooting the sucker" was Ford's suggestion. Steven Spielberg immediately took him up on the idea, and the scene was successfully filmed. Pranked In Post Fact: During the scene where Indiana (Harrison Ford) threatens the Nazis with a Panzerfaust, you can clearly see a fly creeping into the mouth of Paul Freeman. Contrary to popular belief, he did not swallow it. Freeman explained in an interview years later that the fly flew off, but Steven Spielberg noticed it and decided it would be funny to cut out a few frames so the fly would not be seen flying away. This made it look as though Freeman ate it, and he found the edit highly amusing. Empire Magazine chose this scene as one of the most common scenes for which people press the "Pause" button on their VCRs.

    In the Lord of the Rings, unless you see John Rhys Davies face clearly, it's not him but his body double. Davies reaction to the latex face makeup caused them to use the actor only when a closeup was needed. The other cast members spent far more time with Gimli's body double on set than the actor that is actually credited with playing him. The other actors lobbied hard to get the diminutive performer a screen credit for the role but union rules wouldn't allow it.

    I’m in my mid 50’s, I saw this movie when it premiered back in 1981. It was an instant game changer and crowd pleaser. One thing that makes Indiana Jones such an enduring icon is that he is a very ordinary man. He isn’t a superhero or a ex-special forces operator. In half his fights he gets his but whipped. Indy is a college archaeology professor for Pete’s sake. But he has bravery, a can do attitude and a love for history. In the novel for the book early on he admits to himself that he doesn’t like violating these ancient burial grounds. But if he doesn’t do it these treasures would be lost forever via people like Belloq. So he finds them and puts them in a museum.

    Yay! You guys are diving into Indy and his crazy adventures! I love these films, and this one is great! Very happy hearing your thoughts on it, can’t wait to see what you think of the other two! (I know there’s more than 3, but the original trilogy is just a classic, while the new ones are… not very good imo.)

    In the bible say "no one can see the power of God", thats why Indy said to close the eyes. Also, the place where they hide the ark is Area 51. Beloch taught he could see the power of God, but like they said, "its something that no humans can see or should see".

    You have to understand that in the old biblical mythological tradition, seeing an angel, or a vessel of god's power, as an unprepared and unassisted human would destroy anyone. Like touching the surface of the sun. It's just too much of a direct meeting with pure reality and pure power, would scare a mortal to death.

    What a lot of people don't realise, is that when this movie is set, the Nazis had a lot of respect around the world due to the way they turned the German economy around, so they didn't have an "evil" association. Same as these days Indiana would be considered a grave robber and cultural thief.

    The sand inside the Ark isn't actually sand It was the remains of the stone tablets that held the Ten Commandments No one replaced them with ordinary sand Remember, this artifact belonged to the Hebrews that were brought out of slavery by Moses and settled in their new home after their decades-long trek across the desert The tablets were thousands of years old, so it's no surprise that the rock would decompose after all that time So, in a way, the Ark became worthless since its contents are gone forever

    The Ark is part of the Old Testament of the bible, when god was still furious and angry and burned people, demanded sacrifices and turned people into salt pillars when they watched his destructive powers.

    The ritual didn't really matter, it was just the fact that it was being opened by non-believers and evil ones at that. In the Bible people were struck dead for touching or even just looking at it. No one dared open it.

    I don’t think the Nazis’ souls would be trapped with the Ark. The Jewish god came down and killed them.

  • @philmullineaux5405

    According to the bible, the ark contains Moses original stone tablets and his staff which was dead, but sprouted live. The only people who could touch it were sanctified priests who were offspring of Aaron, Moses brother. The top is 2 angels with wings touching, this is the Mercy Seat of God. He sits there and judges humans, if He sees the blood of Jesus on a person, they are forgiven. If not....well u see what happened to the Nazis! If anyone, even other Jews or priests, not Aaron's offspring touch it, that's instant death!

    There was something that happened a bunch of years ago called the Holocaust, Doris, if you ever get tired of being angry about fictional people, maybe you could look into an actual historical crime/tragedy. Nah, it's more fun to be angry with imaginary men, isn't it, kitten?
