11:46 Fun fact: Even if you don't shoot the big plane, it'll still crash anyways (I was curious what would happen to see if it managed to successfully launched but nope that didn't happen lol.) Notice how the left thruster is wobbly because the preparation for the launch wasn't completely done. Probably because they were in a hurry to get out of there ASAP 😆

I love & prefer pixel-style, pre-modern 3D Raiden games because of the details they have on the background and the environmental damages.

Raiden 2 = Original Version Raiden DX = Update Version

Used to remember playing this with my brother when we come home from school. Dropped our bags and grabbed some lose changes then we'd head to the arcade with our uncle driving us there, this gives good memories.. Well except for him taking every fucking power up on the goddamn screen but y'know, still good fun

What a fantastic memory, buddy.

Small but great detail in this game: when the stage stop scrolling, your plane will activate its VTOL mode, and back to normal mode when the stage started to move again

And Blackbird seems to engage its VTOL as well in it's final configuration since it os front facing you, no?

My father has played this masterpiece at an arcade and went through it in charlie mission without running out of lives and using a continue. Somehow, it was also a little bit of an inspiration for him to actually introduce me to Newgrounds like that considering the pixel artwork, enjoyment and challenges. That was even before he had me as a newborn baby. Yes, he has already revealed it to me like that and he has also explained me that he was able to go through the entire game without running out of lives because of his incredible skills and efforts and not his adult age.

The beginning of the blackbird fight is hilarious Straight up fires the burners in a panic and blows up one of its own engines lol.

11:58 This boss blew my mind as a kid, the fact that the the stage eventually goes up into the atmosphere was AWESOME

I didn't know that there was an extra boss. Did they remove that in Raiden 2? Or do i have to play the game in higher difficulty?

Boss theme is really mindfvck.

Still one of the greatest SHMUPs of all time. Even if Blackbird is disproportionately difficult compared to the bosses after it and the TLB is disappointing imo.

Blackbird, is both pretty, dynamic and way more visually appealing imo, makes the rest of the bosses feel pretty dull, static, giant behemots.

I remember... I once got REALLY into Raiden 2. Like, I played it all the time. I couldn't really get super far with each life/credit, but I kept pushing. I remember the last time I played the game, I had reached the boss of Level 4. Damn... can't believe I was about halfway. No way I'm ever gonna get close to good enough to play the secret boss. Never gonna happen.

Love these shoot em up types, where the big foes get gradually more on fire! Always looks cool....

the ending only Just land into Carrier. But it take off again for Next Loop.

@@Mike14264 not sure if I used the word correctly but basically the bosses in Raiden II seem to perfectly correlate to the bosses in the original game, the first boss is 2 giant tanks (one on a rail and one with legs) but both virtually have the same attack, the second boss are both battleships on water, both games have a boss in the vein of a temple-aesthetic, they both have bosses which travel in a huge rocket before setting off, both games have a massive tank with a large middle nozzle, and most importantly stage 5 returns

The Nintendo Switch has one version Raiden IV.. is it the sequel?

Clearly the dev team's inspiration peaked with Blackbird. Everything after it is easier and far less awesome. Also that is the lamest true last boss in shmup history. Yet still, this game is amazing.

Playing raiden on max difficulty, feels like the game its in slowmotion and bullets are at 2.0x speed. Also I love the 5th boss fight, it is so insane and cool lookink ship launch into space, makes all the others bosses feel boring.

Ah yes raiden one of the all time heavy hitters of shmups along side games like dodonpachi gradius and more

Ngl if i were to be that pilot, destroying those bosses would get boring as f#ck knowing i could dodge all those bullets and i have nothing else to do than hover, dodge, and shoot. 🤣

Raiden 2 is still probably my favorite raiden game. I still prefer sprite based games over modern games.
