Funny timing, just last week after watching anime and reading manga for about 17 years give or take I bought manga for the first time ever; pretty sure it's my first anime/manga-related purchase in general. It's 20th-Century Boys, by the way. I seem to remember you really enjoyed the Monster anime (same manga author); I wonder what happened to the plans to turn it into an HBO show, I think there were rumors going around in 2013 that Guillermo del Toro was approached to direct it. Anyway, isn't Rahxephon one of those weird Anime-to-Manga adaptions? Those are always either extremely half-assed or really weird and experimental. The Mai-Otome manga is an example, I was not expecting the plot to be completely different and so.. bizarre.

I'm thinking about starting a new manga sometime around June, and 20th Century Boys is on my shortlist. My biggest concern is its length. Otherwise it checks out: cheap, easily available in good quality, good reviews, and good experiences with the same author. The Rahxephon manga has several notes from the author saying they intentionally took the manga in a different direction from the anime, which I think worked out in this specific case. Off the top of my head I can't remember if I've ready any other anime-to-manga adaptations. Usually I'm only reading manga to pick up where the anime left off. I've read a few random panels of the Mai-Hime/Otome manga, but I think that's another one where I'd be more satisfied just reading doujinshi.
