RAGNAR KJARTANSSON - THE VISITORS

Музыка

The Visitors soundtrack has been repressed! Order it on vinyl now: thevinylfactory.com/product/t...
In late 2015 The Vinyl Factory presented the UK solo exhibition premiere of Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson's acclaimed multi-screen audio-visual artwork The Vistors at Brewer Street Car Park.
The Visitors is a nine-channel, HD video installation which transports the beholder to a peculiar universe: in the various rooms of the almost two-hundred-year-old villa Rokeby on the picturesque Hudson River in New York State, the artist, his friends, and residents repeatedly perform a “feminine nihilistic gospel song.”
As with most of Ragnar Kjartansson’s performance and video art, music and creative collaboration with friends play a crucial role in The Visitors. The project’s kernel is a text by the artist Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir, which Kjartansson has assembled from performances of hers and written music to along with his friend Davíð Þór Jónsson. Several musicians and friends from the Reykjavík music scene perform the song in a variety of settings in the many rooms at Rokeby.
The Visitors also pays homage to the Swedish pop band ABBA. The title alludes to 1981 ABBA album also called ‘The Visitors’; the band’s eighth and last record strikes a surprising and almost somber note - ABBA broke apart soon after the album came out, with members blaming crises in their relationships and their exhaustion.
Says Kjartansson of ‘The Visitors’: "The work reflects a place where reality merges with fiction, history with rumours, and everyday life with dreams. Rokeby stands as a monument to an age of splendor, a villa full of art and bygone worldly wealth.”
In tandem with the exhibition opening, Ragnar Kjartansson and The Vinyl Factory launch a new collaborative record label called Bel-Air Glamour Records. The first two releases on the label will be Kristín Anna's Howl and The Visitors soundtrack by Ragnar Kjartansson & The All-Star Band, featuring Kristín Anna, Kjartan Sveinsson and other musicians from The Visitors.

I agree, it was astonishing. And to think I almost passed the exhibit by. This was a profound meaningful and beautiful piece of art, the kind of thing I will never forget.. The separation of screens makes you feel that you are walking through those rooms, the sound only furthers the effect. This is art at its finest!

It was so incredible I say them in Phoenix last week at the gallery and I almost started to cry. I am not a crier. It is the most beautiful music sound experience and I will never forget it. I went in to listen three times... 3 times I just couldn't get enough of this even with my emotions and tears almost running down my face. Goose bumps people goose bumps .... A have to see in person into the room and the sounds surrounding your very soul. :-) I love love love !!!

I just saw this at the Barbican today. When I read that this piece was over an hour, I thought I would stay 15 minutes or less in the room and would be done. I found myself not wanting - and not being able to - leave the room. I don't even have words for how beautiful it is. Even so, if I had to find a better word for this piece, I would say human. And, in my opinion, that's what makes it so unique.

I had been separated from my step sisters at a young age in order to live with my biological mom across the country. I was really close to them. Eventually they were able to come and stay with me for a couple months. Time came for them to leave and on their last day we went to LA and saw this piece of work a couple hours before their flight took off. This song has always been happy/sad to me. Means a lot.

It gives me so many emotions I can't describe When all of them started joining in and just- it became louder and louder and I couldn't stop smiling It's art at its best

“A pink rose In the glittery frost A diamond heart And the orange red fire Once again I fall into My feminine ways You protect the world from me As if I’m the only one who’s cruel You’ve taken me To the bitter end Once again I fall into My feminine ways There are stars exploding And there is nothing you can do” The lyrics come from a poem written by Ragnar Kjartansson's ex-wife: Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir. Found this piece of art by accident 5 months ago in Madrid... And I am still deeply moved.

I saw this in Cincinnati @CAM. Pleasantly surprised to find out that I am not the only one who was a bit verklempt by the end of this. Whatever is was, the repetition of the melody or the soul-line running through the people, it was heart-rending and I was at last standing there with a lump in my throat.

We were both mesmerised by this production at the Guggenheim in Bilbao a couple of years ago- and it has stayed with us ever since. It just grabs you and is so immersive, yet in such a simplistic kind of way that I felt overwhelmed with emotion by the end. It was fascinating also how others reacted; a real communal experience as people entered, some standing, others sitting or lying down, some moving around to see the screens, others just being still and actually everyone being content to just 'be' in their own way - never seen anything like it.
