@@Personified134 Well, most of Gage’s issue was refusing to give up on his Chaos Synchro deck when it was clearly inferior to Cimo’s Blackwings. He did have some success against Cimo when he went to Frogs and then Drgon Rulers, before stomping Cimo for a while with Deskbots.

Yup. In sealed prog they are VERY limited to a single set and taps are OP and stop any possible development. While in this -- handtraps of attack boosting exist and are mashed whit good spell/trap removal.

Would help if there was a Continous Spell Card withthe effect: Effects that activate during the Damage Step are negated. Seriously, there are cards to prevent Tribute Summons, to prevent Synchro Summons, to allow Fusion without Polymerization, to allow you to steal your opponent's freshly summoned Fusion monster, and...WAIT, there is a card that would've worked. It is called Prohibition, and considering there is only one card that is problematic in the Blackwings set, Probihition would've been something.

@@joanaguayoplanell4912 Pretty sure Feather Storm doesn't specifically negate the activation of a card/effect, so it shouldn't work in Damage Step. You can use it prior to Damage Step though

@@joanaguayoplanell4912 Sure, but it doesn't negate the ACTIVATION of a card/effect. That's one of the things that makes a card or effect usable during the Damage Step. This is why for say Borreload Savage Dragon would work against Kalut while things that only negate the effect wouldn't. One more example would be Ghost Belle vs Ash Blossom - since the former negates the activation, it can in fact be used during the Damage Step. Ash Blossom on the other hand only negates the effect, thus making it unable to be used during the Damage Step.

Watching Cimo double Kalut was like a Vietnam flashback

This is nice, very balanced

at 7:00 minutes in or so, Joseph mentions that Dark Strike Fighter originally wasn't once per turn. This is true, HOWEVER it was also not restricted to activating in the Main Phase 1, leading to being able to attack with it, then tribute some monsters for the rest of lethal.

@@yunleung2631 oh definitely. Dark strike fighter was an absolute menace with its huge swing turns and ending games with its burn effect was devastating. I only called it cowboy because it used its burn effect to end games thats all 😁

@@yunleung2631 The first consistent OTK strategy that didn't have paper thin defenses, rather. there were consistent OTKs at the time, but if they weren't easy to disrupt, then they were weak to battle traps and/or stalling a turn then just wiping two or three cards with card effects and battle, then get stuck in topdeck mode because they just dumped all of their resources into that board.

Yeah, Dark Strike fighter by itself was already 4k dmg (2600atk+1400 burn), which made it extremely easy to OTK with 1-2 other monsters or a second Dark Strike Fighter.

Blackwings and this episode is only 31 minutes, this is going to be hilarious and 24:31, It has returned!

Something MBT forgot to say about Dark Strike Fighter is that In addition to not being once per turn it didn't have "during the main phase 1" restriction, Which allowed players to tribute their monsters after battle phase to close-u games.

Kalut-"hi" Kalut x2- "DIE!" Can everyone agree that Gage and MBT now have war flashbacks.

Who else thinks Black-Winged Dragon should have an errata with added text: "This card is always treated as a Blackwing" Archfiend was always an archetype, Stardust too, and now Rose Dragons are a thing.

All I know about this format was monk 2 spells was an otk. Monk summon monk summon cat into 2 airbellum, then dark strike fighter gos brrr.

Mbt could have in theory otk cimooo in game 1. I’ll just assume he either had no more spells in hand or the second summoner monk. But you usually summoned another monk with the first one and then rescue cat. Summoning two airbellums and go into dark strike fightrs hitting your opponent for 5200. After that you’d tribute them and burn for another 2800 and exactly game.

​@@sinbadddx Sealed Showdown makes it a lot harder to commit to feeling invested for sure. but idk I just love Robert, and the Alex/Robert combo has by far the most enjoyable dynamic imo (still love Gage and Joseph). personally that's enough for me to watch literally 2 hours of Ordeal of a traveller + Needle wall mirrors and still enjoy it. still understandable ofc, but for what it's worth i don't think there's too many episodes left before it speeds up like the other person said

Cimooo, the first game was still winable, probably in your favor even. Use Heavy to pop the backrow. Use reborn on the x-saber tuner and get back the Kalut with Dark Eruption. From there just synchro summon Goyo.

Blackwings got me my only US nats invites in 2009 and then I made cat synchro after nats. Such a nostalgia trip.

I actually was looking forward to this match, I needed a good laugh and now I got it.

No two words will ever be as terrifying as "Damage Step".

I LOVED Spellcasters Command. Wish Endymion had gotten support that wasn't like trying to figure out a stage magician's tricks. Then again, I guess that's loyal to the theme!

I'm imagining a James Bond like series where MBT and Gage are solving a murky, intrigue filled murder mystery. They have worn-out leather deck holders on their sides, built and built over again as the year has gone by. They both know the cards that are going to be played, preparing against the odds. They don't know if they'll succeed, but they know that they must try. Meanwhile Cimo, wearing a far, far too expensive suit and tie, is sitting in front of his luxurious maple-wood desk with multiple flat screen monitors showing his deck lists, his rock paper scissors ai, and so on. As he sits there with a prideful, evil smirk, he slowly pets his Kalut plushie resting in his lap. He looks down at his table and stares at his rigged dice and gold trimmed deck box, decorated with a single black wing. He chuckles. I would love that.

This has been a good week for Cimo. He got a triple victory this week. He won in the progression series, he won in the sealed showdown, and he won today in the history of Yu-Gi-Oh. Can he keep it up next week?

Joseph's deck was only running 2 copies of Rescue Cat because it was semi-limited at the time.

(He said when he could've Heavy Stormed the back row, used Reborn on the X-Saber, Dark Eruption his Kalut back, Synchro into Goyo, and destroy the Arcanite Magician.) Granted, he was so far down in card advantage and lifepoints that he was probably dead anyway but still.

Dark Magician is Yugi's protector. Blue-Eyes is Kaiba's. I'm starting to believe Kalut is Cimo's lmao

I saw Blackwings in the opening and I immediately knew exactly how this episode was going to go
